Streszczenie:
Low cardiac output syndrome is a prevalent complication observed after cardiac surgery, related to elevated rates of mortality and morbidity. The study aimed to pinpoint independent risk factors for low cardiac output through the analysis of post-cardiac surgery data. This is a single-centre, two-year retrospective study from January 2021 to December 2022, including all patients admitted to the A1 general intensive care unit for postoperative management of cardiac surgery. Variables from preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative data were collected and evaluated with the statistical pack

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS) is a breathing disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of upper airway collapse during sleep. Measuring cardiac function in OSAHS patients may provide information to help delineate not only chronic effects of autonomic imbalance and ventricular loading in the diseases state, but also possible beneficial effects of clinical treatments. Objectives (Study 1): The aim of this study was to determine the reproducibility of select cardiac variables when monitoring a simulated sleep apnea event using a new improved bioimpedance cardiography system

This chapter on cardiac disease in pediatric intensive care provides essential information on cardiovascular physiology, how to assess cardiovascular and hemodynamic status, and principles of treatment of congenital and acquired cardiac disease in children. The review of physiology includes definitions of preload, afterload, oxygen content, cardiac output, vascular resistance, blood pressure, and cardiopulmonary interactions. Formulas to calculate key parameters are provided. The authors also summarize the presentation and care of most common cyanotic and acyanotic congenital heart defects, in

Heart failure is a clinical syndrome characterized by an inadequate cardiac output for the needs of the body in the absence of low filling pressures, and reflects abnormal cardiac structure or function. Although various definitions for acute heart failure (AHF) exist, here AHF is defined as new-onset heart failure or an acute exacerbation of chronic heart failure, requiring urgent therapy. Patients with AHF typically have clinical features of organ hypoperfusion, with or without pulmonary and peripheral oedema.

Lumped parameter model of HLHS is developed based on the electrical circuit analogy. Model is made up of three parts: hypoplastic heart, pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation. In this paper, we present the design, fabrication and characterization of fully soft pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) with low threshold pressures that are intended for direct cardiac compression (DCC). McKibben type PAMs typically have a threshold pressure of at least 100 kPa and require rigid end fittings which may damage soft tissue and cause local stress concentrations, and thus failure points in the actuator. The actuator design we present is a variant on the McKibben PAM with the following key differences: the nylon mesh is embedded in the elastomeric tube, and closure of the end of t

Introduction: Maximal cardiac output (COmax) is one of the most important functional parameters related to cardiorespiratory capacity (VO2max) and physical fitness. In clinical medicine, low COmax values are a risk factor for imminent heart failure. Conversely, high COmax values are a prerequisite for achieving high performance in sports, especially in endurance disciplines. Methods: To determine the COmax, we used our own modification of the COmax calculation from the VO2max values obtained during the spiroergometric examination (Stork et al. - 1).
