Abstract : The present study documents novel diatom taxa from freshwater habitats in the Khandesh region of Maharashtra, India, contributing significantly to the understanding of regional and national microalgal biodiversity. Detailed taxonomic analysis led to the identification and description of one new species and four new varieties: Cyclotella kanchanensis sp. nova., Meridion circulare Agardh v. elongatum v. nova., M. circulare v. khaperensis v. nova., M. circulare v.

In epiphyton of the Shchugor River 143 species (with varieties and forms) of diatoms from 49 genera, 21 families were identified. Families Fragilariaceae Achnanthidiaceae, Gomphonemataceae, Naviculaceae, Bacillariaceae, Eunotiaceae include 10 and more taxa. Genera Gomphonema (11), Eunotia, Nitzschia (10 species) are predominate. Diatoms on mosses are the most abundant and diverse. Common species on all macrophytes are Achnanthidium minutissimum (Kützing) Czarnecki, Cocconeis placentula Ehrenberg, Encyonema minutum (Hilse) Mann, Meridion circulare (Gréville) Agardh, Tabellaria flocculosa (Roth)

Distinct diatom assemblages often characterize stream habitats, providing the potential to reconstruct past precipitation, snowmelt, and streamflow levels in high arctic watersheds by analyzing fossil assemblages preserved in downstream lake sediments. Diatom assemblages were studied from seven streams and two rivers surrounding Lake Sophia, Cornwallis Island, Nunavut, Canada (75°06' N, 93°36' W). A total of 64 diatom taxa were identified from epilithic and epiphytic assemblages in these lotic habitats. Of these, certain diatom taxa exhibited clear microhabitat preferences. Hannaea arcus (Ehre

Benthic diatoms are being used as indicators to assess the biological quality of surface waters in Kosovo. The Klina River is the left tributary of the White Drin River Basin, with a length of 69 km. The study assessed the level of surface water quality in the Klina River using 12 diatomic indices calculated with the Omnidia program. For this purpose, three stations monitored the river Klina in the autumn of 2021 to conform to international standards. A total of 88 diatom taxa were identified, with the dominant species being Rhoicosphenia abbreviata (C. Agardh) Lange-Bertalot, Gyrosigma acumin

The results of studying the diatoms in epixylon of 15 water objects in European Northeast of Russia are presented. The samples of nature biofilms from external surfaces of submersed branches of Betula nana, Salix spp., woody snags, and wood debris were investigated. A comparative analysis of diatoms in fouling of woody substrates was carried out from coal-mine settling pond, lakes, streams, and different parts of mountain river. These are in the basins of Ortina, Vorcuta, More-Yu, Vychegda, Izhgma, Shchugor rivers. In stagnant waters diversity of diatoms form 9–56, in waterways 10–102 taxa. En
