Abstract We present the database of potential targets for the Large Interferometer For Exoplanets (LIFE), a space-based mid-infrared nulling interferometer mission proposed for the Voyage 2050 science program of the European Space Agency. The database features stars, their planets and disks, main astrophysical parameters, and ancillary observations. It allows users to create target lists based on various criteria to predict, for instance, exoplanet detection yields for the LIFE mission. As such, it enables mission design trade-offs, provides context for the analysis of data obtained by LIFE, a

What today increasingly tends to be characterized as the growing unity and identity of the continent of Europe is a consequence of developments and events at the end of the twentieth century. Until then, for Europe (and for today’s EU member states) more distinctions, antagonisms and different interests were characteristic than the common objectives or the common spirit of a common security policy and co-operation. The ESDP is a unique EU project that belongs to the second pillar of the EU, and aims, based on military and civil capabilities, to manage the various crises in the region and beyon

Emerging hybrid threats in large-scale warfare systems require networked teams to perform in a reliable manner under changing mission tactics and reconfiguration of mission tasks and force resources. In this paper, a formal Command and Control (C2) structure is presented that allows for computer-aided execution of the networked team decision-making process, real-time tactic selection, and reliable mission reconfiguration. A mathematically justified networked computing environment is provided called the Augmented Discrete Event Control (ADEC) framework. ADEC is portable and has the ability to p

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs) have been recognized as an important resource in search-and-rescue (SAR) missions and, as such, have been used by the Croatian Mountain Search and Rescue (CMRS) service for over seven years. The UAS scans and photographs the terrain. The high-resolution images are afterwards analyzed by SAR members to detect missing persons or to find some usable trace. It is a drawn out, tiresome process prone to human error. To facilitate and speed up mission image processing and increase detection accuracy, we have developed several image-processing algorithms. ABSTRACT Introduction With increasing interest in humanitarian surgical efforts, numerous opportunities for specialized mission trips have developed. Extreme short-term surgical “blitzes” of specialist teams have offered much-needed surgical care but lack efforts for patient continuity and local sustainability. We sought to define characteristics that aid in the long-term success of short-term international surgical missions to better apply this insight toward future dedicated humanitarian endocrine surgical efforts. Several announcements in recent years by the United States and Canadian governments featuring their space exploration plan have one major thing in common: mission preparation at terrestrial analogue sites. Mission simulations carried out at these sites often involve traverses that allow access to areas of special interest needed to meet mission's objectives. Despite many recommendations, no WEB-based geographic information system exists for terrestrial analogues for mission planning. The concept of a mission is important to system design and development, especially in system of systems (SoS) engineering. However, the diverse usage of the term ’mission’ across disciplines often results in ambiguity regarding its role in practical applications in mission-centric engineering tasks. Clearly defined and precisely represented missions improve communication among stakeholders and help bridge interdisciplinary gaps. This study aims to investigate and analyze the state of the art for mission conceptualizations and representations and proposes a unified mission ontology (UMO) that i

This essay takes up a core question of this issue of Pamiętnik Teatralny: how are we to think about historiography beyond a dualism, settled in time and reflective of the status quo? With respect to the California missions, historical treatments of colonization revolve around a dualism shaped by moral dimensions of the missionary enterprise—did the missions help California Indians or harm them? Theatrical representations, like the wildly successful early twentieth century pageant drama, The Mission Play, staged a version of mission history that argued for the former. AbstractThe missions of complex systems, organizations, or groups can be identified through careful requirements and domain analysis. Mission architecture modeling is a crucial step for enterprise modeling and design. However, mission modeling is lacking from the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), which system engineers must specify and model from sketch. This paper proposes a Mission Architecture Modeling Language (MissionML). This two‐layer architecture language generalizes the general common and special knowledge from four typical missions as a core layer and mission layer. The elements
