Avant 1997, l’usage du monoboeuf pour la culture attelée n’était pas pris en compte par le développement. Abstract: This paper surveys literature in art education that explores cultural inclusivity. It then surveys Jewish Canadian history in order to provide a sketch of the cultural context, providing a rationale for teaching Jewish art at Canadian universities. A brief history of the nature of Jewish art and its relationship to that of the dominant cultures in which Jews have lived will be described. It proposes a model for teaching Jewish art and art by Jewish artists in Canadian universities that can provide students with opportunities to truly understand the cultural context in which this work

AbstractThis chapter introduces the cultures framework, which offers a conceptual structure for visualising and analysing the relationship between culture and sustainability. It has been extensively tested through research on a wide range of sustainability problems. The core of the framework—which conveys the interactions between motivators, activities and materiality, together called the cultural ensemble—reflects widely shared understandings of culture’s features and dynamics as discussed in Chapter 3. The framework also incorporates conceptual elements from other fields of knowledge. From systems theory, it takes understandings of system dynamics and system boundaries. From structuration, it adopts the concept of agency and applies it to circumscribe actors’ cultures. Contextual pressures on culture are drawn into consideration as external influences. Sustainability outcomes are the tangible effects of how these variables work through actors’ cultures. These ideas are visually represented in a model which is applicable to cultural analysis at any scale.

AbstractCulture’s tendency to resist change, or to change only incrementally, is often described as one of its defining features. This resilience can be beneficial if cultural ensembles have positive sustainability outcomes, but problematic where they do not. This chapter draws from research that has used the cultures framework to examine cultural stasis and the mechanisms by which cultural ensembles endure. It starts with examples of culture’s role in sustainability-related outcomes. Consistent cultural patterns relating to particular outcomes (e.g. household energy efficiency, mobility choices) can be identified across populations. The chapter then describes the various processes by which cultural arrangements resist change. These include dynamic alignments within cultural ensembles, cultural actors’ lack of agency and external influences on cultural arrangements. The examples show how the framework offers a universal, scale-free model for the analysis of culture in the context of sustainability.
