Over a period of 2 years, 28 patients admitted to Government General Hospital (GGH), Sangli (which is attached to Government Medical College (GMC), Miraj) yielded multi-drug resistant non-typhoidal salmonellae from their clinical material. The pediatric age group predominated in the study, accounting for 93% of cases. Salmonella typhimurium was the main isolate (86%), the other being Salmonella newport (14%). Gastroenteritis was the commonest presentation. Septicaemia was seen with 100% mortality, in infants below 1 month of age. Two cases of meningitis were also seen.

ABSTRACT Multidrug-resistant strains of Salmonella are now encountered frequently, and the rates of multidrug resistance have increased considerably in recent years. Here, we report that the two-component regulatory system BaeSR increases multidrug and metal resistance in Salmonella through the induction of drug efflux systems. Screening of random fragments of genomic DNA for the ability to increase β-lactam resistance in Salmonella enterica led to the isolation of a plasmid containing baeR, which codes for the response regulator of BaeSR. When overexpressed, baeR significantly increased the r

ABSTRACT Salmonella spp. are important food-borne pathogens that are demonstrating increasing antimicrobial resistance rates in isolates obtained from food animals and humans. In this study, 10 multidrug-resistant, cephalosporin-resistant Salmonellaisolates from bovine, porcine, and human sources from a single geographic region were identified. All isolates demonstrated resistance to cephamycins and extended-spectrum cephalosporins as well as tetracycline, chloramphenicol, streptomycin, and sulfisoxazole. ABSTRACT The exposure of farm animals to antimicrobials for treatment, prophylaxis, or growth promotion can select for resistant bacteria that can be transmitted to humans, and Salmonella as an important zoonotic pathogen can act as a potential reservoir of antimicrobial resistance determinants. We assessed the antibiogram profiles of Salmonella species isolated from pig herds in two commercial farms in South Africa. Two hundred fifty-eight presumptive Salmonella isolates were recovered from the fecal samples of 500 adult pigs. Specific primers targeting Salmonella serogroups A, B, C1, C2, and

Salmonella enterica is among the most common causes of foodborne outbreaks in humans in Europe. The global emergence of resistance to antimicrobials calls for close monitoring of the spread and prevalence of resistant Salmonella strains. In this study, we investigated the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella serotypes isolated from humans between 2012 and 2021 in Piedmont, northwest Italy. A total of 4814 Salmonella strains (168 serotypes) were tested against six classes of antimicrobials. Many strains (83.3%) showed resistance to at least one antibiotic: tetracycline (85.1%),
