Hypoplastic and aplastic paranasal sinuses are rare conditions which can lead to obstruction of mucociliary clearance. most of these patients are asymptomatic, however these conditions may lead to chronic headaches and nasal obstruction which can be misleading towards the diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis. it has been reported in literature that conventional radiography could not differentiate between inflammatory pathologies, neoplasm, and hypoplasia of the sinus. According to the latest classification of vascular lesions, cavernous hemangioma is considered a venous or arteriovenous malformation. The literature has not described the association between vascular malformation of the middle turbinate and angiofibroma of the nasal septum. A 26-year-old female patient with profuse left-sided bleeding and nasal obstruction is presented. She was bleeding from a vascular malformation of the left middle turbinate, and from an angiofibroma, attached to the posterior edge of the nasal septum. The patient also had hypoplasia of the left maxillary sinus and a lack o

Abstract Background Genetic and environmental factors especially climatic conditions are thought to influence the shape and size of the paranasal sinuses and anatomic variations may create both a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. However, no study has been published about the climatic adaptation of the paranasal sinus region in different populations. This study aimed to compare the prevalence of anatomical variants in the paranasal sinus and nasal cavity using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) between Polish and Turkish Cypriot populations. Methods The material consisted of volumes acqu

ABSTRACTThe maxillary sinus is the first sinus to develop in the human fetus and continues growing until puberty. Maxillary sinus aplasia is a rare condition characterized by the failure of sinus development. A 61‐year‐old female was referred to the otolaryngology clinic by a maxillofacial surgeon due to abnormalities in her radiograph. She had no history of facial pain, rhinorrhea, chronic sinusitis, nasal congestion, sinonasal surgery, or trauma. Endoscopic evaluation and CT scan revealed isolated right‐sided maxillary sinus and uncinate process aplasia. It is crucial for otolaryngologists,

BACKGROUND: Paranasal sinuses are air lled spaces present within the skull and facial bones. Paranasal sinuses region anatomy is highly variable. Knowledge of these variations is very important for radiologists as well as endoscopic surgeons for preoperative evaluation to avoid damage to adjacent vital structures. CT is the best modality to delineate the sinus anatomy as well as soft tissue structures. Thus, this study was undertaken to evaluate the anatomical variations of paranasal sinus region and ascertain their clinical importance. Study population MATERIAL: of 100 patients who underwent

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the Le Fort I osteotomy line and pterygomaxillary junction via cone-beam computed tomography in individuals with cleft lip and palate (CLP). Design: Retrospective study. Patients and Methods: The study included individuals older than 16 years with CLP, who were scheduled for repositioning of the maxilla by Le Fort I osteotomy, and those with class III malocclusion with maxillary hypoplasia, who were scheduled for Le Fort I osteotomy. The measurements made in the area of the cleft of individuals with CLP were compared with both the side with no cleft and

Background Trisomy 22 is a rare aneuploidy with only a handful of case reports published in the literature. There is a paucity of cases that report neonatal outcomes and even fewer reports of ultrasound findings. The case reports that describe ultrasound findings are few and most are limited to cases of fetal demise or termination. In this case report and review of the literature we describe our ultrasound, physical exam and autopsy findings of a live born 47,XY +22 infant.
