Background. In autumn, after feeding in the Azov Sea, anchovy (Azov anchovy Engraulis encrasicolus maeoticus Pusanov &amp; Zeeb, 1926) migrates to the Black Sea for wintering. In late March - early April, the majority of the Azov anchovy usually returns to the Azov Sea, while its lesser part remains in the coastal shallows of the Black Sea. To a large extent, the stock of anchovy in the Azov Sea depends on the oceanographic conditions of migration. Relevance. The study of the oceanographic conditions at the migration paths of the Azov anchovy is currently essential, because these conditions ca

The study has been carried out on the basis of the DINEOF-reconstructed dataset of 8-day average log-transformed <i>Chla</i> (<i>alChla</i>) patterns for 1997-2016. The <i>alChla</i> patterns were decomposed into six independent components of its spatio-temporal variability in the north-western shelf of the Black Sea. The experience of many years of research shows the high tectonic activity of the North-Western Black Sea coast (NWBSC) in the Cenozoic. Differentiated block tectonic movements have long controlled here the position of the sea level, the development of the river network (including the now underwater paleovalleys), the rates of sedimentation, the processes of bank formation, landslides and the general formation of landscapes. Tectonic factors actually determine the directions and rates of development of the modern geoecosystem of the entire NWBSC. The results of their study should be taken into

The results of theanalysis allowed us to obtain some comparative characteristics of small-scale and mesoscale vortex formations, in particular, in all the studied areas — the predominant development of small-scale vortices of cyclonic vorticity. Biological invasions pose a significant threat to aquatic ecosystems, and the spread of uncontrolled non-indigenous species can have detrimental effects on biodiversity, ecosystem processes, and economic activities. The Chesapeake blue crab, Callinectes sapidus, native to the western Atlantic Ocean, is non-indigenous in the Black Sea region. The oyster mudworm Polydora websteri is an Asian polydorid polychaete that has become invasive in different parts of Europe. Here, we provide the first report of the species parasitising Mediterranean mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) from the Gulf of Odesa, Black Sea, Ukraine. The P. websteri are identical in morphology to worms from the Romanian Black Sea coast and also match the original description of the species. High prevalence parameters indicate a high level of infestation in bottom-dwelling molluscs and suggests the species has spread throughout the North-Western Black Sea M. gallop
