Pełny tekst źródłaLiterary theory and statistics may seem far removed from one another, but their combination makes it possible to propose a singular point of view in the field of literature. This research has been conceived in the light of the possibilities offered by such an approach, which is likely to provide a response to a literary curiosity about the extreme contemporaneity observed in France. The object of study is the young adult imaginary literature, which, in France, shows clear-cut degrees of success depending on the origin of its published titles: on the one hand, translated Anglo-American books with exponential popularity; on the other, French books whose most popular representatives are nonetheless far less popular than their contemporaries. And if certain external influencing factors can logically be determined, what about those that may be in action within the text itself? The heart of this research will be to interrogate, detect and even predict these possible textual reasons from a statistical angle, without however ignoring external ones, which will also be examined in order to best measure the weight of the influences at book. In other words, to use the double modality of the title of this research, an objective that can be translated in the form of the following problematization: “Can the successes of young adult imaginary literature in France be, to some extent, explained and predicted on the basis of textual material?”.This approach, at the crossroads of the exact sciences and literary theory, made possible by an analytical approach based on typologies and models conceptualized through a combination of approaches in structuralism, narratology and textometry, aims to measure and verify the characteristics of success external to the text through the prism of statistics; but above all, proposes to examine textual phenomena in a quantifiable form, and detect those at by in action within the fiction itself and to mirror them according to the commercial success that the books have enjoyed

Pełny tekst źródłaVirtual Teams are becoming an increasingly common work form. The ability to connect people with required sets of skills, regardless of their location in the world has been enabled by advances in information technology over the past 20 years. However, as researchers and practitioners have discovered, this new kind of team brings with it number of challenges. This thesis aims to examine the challenges and the opportunities that technology brings to the environment of the Virtual Team and to give hands on advice to researchers and practitioners in the field. The authors have taken an interdisciplinary view on Virtual Teams and Collaborative Virtual Environments. The focus has been on the design of the virtual space as well as early team building activities that support team formation. An extensive literature review examines concepts such as the development of trust, team opacity and shared mental models in respect to the virtual team. In respect to technology, the authors have also looked into research on the transformation of virtual spaces into places, where meaningful activities can been carried out.
The authors recommend anyone considering to assemble a Virtual Team to look at the greater context of the team in respect to the people that will make up the team, the previous history of the team members, the timeline and lifespan of the team and a number of other variables. These recommendations are presented in the form of a framework for understanding the context of the Virtual Team, including its supporting technologies. In certain cases, the team may benefit from engaging in virtual team building activities. For these purposes, the authors have investigated technologies which support interaction in a 3D virtual space where the team member is represented by a virtual persona, an avatar.
The thesis presents an experimental platform, called Teamlink, for conducting virtual ice breaking and team building in a 3D environment, developed in increments at Auckland University of Technology over the past 8 years. Based on the theoretical findings from the review and on an evaluation of previous research conducted on Teamlink the authors give recommendations on future work on Teamlink as well as its suitability as a platform for virtual ice breaking.

Pełny tekst źródłaThis qualitative study explores the evolving notion of economic success among middle class Salvadorans. While initially aimed at the effects of dollarization, the scope was widened to be more inclusive of overall neoliberal practices in El Salvador. In-depth interviews and ethnographic observations were used to understand life as a middle class Salvadoran and the relationship between government practices, including dollarization, and the evolving definition of economic success. Focusing on the individuals in the advertising industry, this study examines the complex factors that influence and determine middle class sentiments regarding their economic status and their point of view on dollarization’s effects on their lives. Additionally, this study considers how opinions and experiences differ along socioeconomic lines, comparing middle class employee experiences with that of upper class CEOs. The study was conducted in San Salvador, El Salvador; the economic and cultural center of El Salvador.
