Bacteriophages are increasingly recognised as indicators of faecal contamination in aquatic environments, particularly in regions with limited wastewater management. This study investigated the presence and concentration of somatic coliphages in the Nwaniba River, a vital artisanal fishing site in southeastern Nigeria, and assessed the potential health risks to fishers and consumers. The aim was to quantify phage loads in surface water and urine samples and to estimate infection risks using a Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment (QMRA) approach. Water samples from multiple points along the N

The Aspects of the Biology of the Catfish (<em>Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus) </em>were investigated from August to October 2015 in Nwaniba River, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. A total of two hundred (200) specimens were analyzed for gut contents using Numerical and Frequency of Occurrence methods. The results revealed that the species feed on various food items ranging from plant origin to animal materials with dietary preference classified into eight major groups consisting of Crustaceans 39 (23.2%), Fish parts 26 (15.6%), Detritus 23 (13.7%), Plant parts 20 (11.9%), Undefined 20 (11.9%), Mollusca

This review synthesizes findings from 10 scientific publications utilizing the weighted arithmetic Water Quality Index (WQI) to assess the status of diverse water bodies (Ikpa River, Lower Enyong Creek, Nwaniba River, Imo River, Etim Ekpo River, Lower Qua Iboe River, Ibeno Estuary, Cross River, Ikot Ebak River and Oboroenyin River) all within the Cross River System. The Analysis reveals that 6 out of 10 sampled water bodies are moderately polluted, while the remaining 4 exhibit slight pollution levels. These findings underscore significant concerns regarding water quality degradation, predomin

Ecological risk assessment of pesticide residues is not only germane but critical in view of their inherent health challenges and for informed decision-making process. This study was conducted to assess the levels of contamination of organochlorine pesticide residues in water from Nwaniba River in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The analysis was carried out using Gas Chromatography with electron capture detector (GC-ECD). The obtained results revealed the predominance of Dieldrin in the different samples of water analysed from Ufak Effiong in the Southern District (station I) a
