An elevator is a part and parcel of modern life in developed countries. The safety and reliability of an elevator system is of great importance as it carries people and other goods. During pick hours of the day, waiting long time in front of an elevator causes mental weariness. In this paper, we have hinted an automatic system that will estimate and display the free weight and volume of an elevator for the passengers using sensors and computer vision techniques. Then the passengers can make a decision and ride on their convenient elevators.

The shape of a building largely contributes to its energy consumption. The current study utilized metrics of surface-to-volume ratio, surface-to-floor ratio, area-to-perimeter ratio, and volume ratio to evaluate building energy performance. Also, the paper focused on the relation between the air-conditioned room and non-air-conditioned room. This approach affects both the design stages of the floor plan and the main designing factors that decide which spaces would become air-conditioned spaces such as those mostly occupied by residents or non-air-conditioned space such as staircases and elevat

Speed Estimation without speed sensors is a complex phenomenon and is overly dependent on the machine parameters. It is all the more significant during low speed or near zero speed operation. There are several approaches to speed estimation of an induction motor. Eventually, they can be classified into two types, namely, estimation based on the machine model and estimation based on magnetic saliency and air gap space harmonics. This paper, through a brief literature survey, attempts to give an overview of the fundamentals and the current trends in various machine model based speed estimation t

Abstract. Solar photovoltaic power plants are in rapid expansion throughout the world, with the total area occupied by panels being linked to the total electrical power produced. This paper considers this case as an instance of the generic problem of estimating the total area occupied by a class of interest in spaceborne hyperspectral images. As the spatial resolution characterizing these sensors is too coarse, spectral unmixing techniques identify the contribution of a specific material to the spectrum related to a single image element. Final results are obtained by summing all contributions

In this paper, a fiducial-aided reconfigurable artefact is presented for estimating volumetric errors of multi-axis machine tools. The artefact makes use of an adjustable number of standard balls as fiducials to build a 3D artefact which has been calibrated on a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). This 3D artefact demonstrates its reconfigurability in its number of fiducials and their locations according to the characteristics of workpieces and machine tools. The developed kinematics of the machine tool were employed to identify the volumetric errors occupied by the workpiece in the working sp

This paper focuses on the mapping problem for mobile robots in dynamic environments where the state of every point in space may change, over time, between free or occupied. The dynamical behaviour of a single point is modelled by a Markov chain, which has to be learned from the data collected by the robot. Spatial correlation is based on Gaussian random fields (GRFs), which correlate the Markov chain parameters according to their physical distance. Using this strategy, one point can be learned from its surroundings, and unobserved space can also be learned from nearby observed space. The map i

In the study, an automated visualization of the proximity between workers and equipment is developed to manage workers’ safety at construction sites using the convolutional-neural-network-based image processing of a closed-circuit television video. The images are analyzed to automatically transform a hazard index visualized in the form of a plane map. The graphical representation of personalized proximity in the plane map is proposed and termed as safety ellipse in the study. Abstract. The growing number of cars and limited street space present significant challenges for cities, applying not only to moving but extending to stationary traffic. The quest for parking spaces exacerbates traffic congestion, noise, and air pollution, particularly in residential areas. To develop effective parking solutions for these challenges, a trustful data foundation on available parking space capacities, its usage and parking type is crucial. Gathering this data is currently time-consuming, requiring manual labeling and street inspections. Moreover, it must be repeated to keep the d

The study proposes strategies for conducting cutter-workpiece engagement (CWE) analysis and representation based on 4-dimensional (4D) geometric models. To achieve the CWE condition, two 4D models representing the workpiece and the machinable volume of the tool are introduced for Boolean subtraction and CWE calculation. However, performing set operations and mesh transformations on high-accuracy 4D mesh models can be complex and time-consuming. Therefore, a simplified CWE analysis process between the time-invariant workpiece-occupied region (WOR) and the tool-occupied region (TOR) has been imp

Because of the large area occupied by a class A pan, alternative methods have been sought to estimate reference evapotranspiration (Eto) inside greenhouses. The objective of this work was to compare ETo estimated by different methods inside and outside a greenhouse. A class A pan (CAPi), a reduced pan (RPi) and an atmometer (Ai) were installed inside a greenhouse, and another class A pan (CAPo) was installed outside. ETo estimates, obtained by CAPi, RPi, and Ai were 56%, 69% and 63% of those estimated by CAPo, respectively. A simple linear regression showed positive coefficients R = 0.94 for t

A parametric estimation algorithm is described for system design criteria selection in Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) applications requiring dissipation of annual cycle excess thermal energy to the air, i.e., a hybrid mode. The model applies a combination of order-of-magnitude scaling (OMS) and classical non-dimensional flow and heat transfer methods. The objective is to develop a simplified parametric range display for selection of design values. Application requirements and constraints map into the solution space for specific design value sele
