Street-involved people with limited access to regular healthcare have an increased risk of developing oral cancer and a lower survival rate. The objective of this study was to measure the prevalence of oral cancerous/precancerous lesions and determine their associated risk factors in a high-risk, underserved population. In this cross-sectional study, English-speaking adults aged 18 years and older living in a marginalized community in Edmonton were recruited from four non-profit charitable organizations. About 5,400 new oral cancer cases are reported in Taiwan each year. However, the five-year survival rates of oral cancer patients are still low. The only way to address this problem is early diagnosis. In the oral cancer diagnosis, surgical biopsy followed by pathological exam is the standard operating procedure. But, surgical biopsy is always accompanied by pain, bleeding, trauma, and spreading of cancer cells.

Abstract Oral potentially malignant diseases (OPMDs) are a group of oral mucosal lesions that have a higher chance of turning into cancer. They show up in different ways, have different causes, and look differently on a microscopic level. To date, there are no clinical or histological factors that could predict the OPMDs’ malignant transformation to oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), except for previous OSCC and WHO classification. Early diagnosis appears to be essential in these lesions in order to identify the risk of malignant progression and treat them accordingly. The standard treatment
