Introduction: Oral and Pharyngeal cancers are the sixth most common cancer globally. In developing countries, the annual incidence of oral cancer is around 275,000 cases while 130,300 cases of pharyngeal cancers excluding naso-pharynx. Salivary glands tumors are rare accounting for less than 5 % of tumors of head and neck region. The annual incidence of these tumors is 0.05 to 2 cases per 100,000 populations. Majority (over two third quarters) of salivary gland tumors occurs in the parotid glands of which most of them (2/3rd) of them are benign in nature. While most common parotid gland’s beni

In the last six years, anterior mandibulotomy was used to approach tumours of the oropharynx and oral cavity in 39 cases. Twenty-six of these had primary lesions in the anterior two-thirds of the tongue. Eight cases had lesions in the base tongue, three in the cheek, and two in the tonsil. Twenty-six cases had T3 tumours, nine had T2 lesions, and four had T4 tumours. Twenty-five patients received post-operative radiotherapy. In 16 cases the mandibulotomy was combined with a marginal mandibulectomy. In 23 cases reconstruction was carried out using a pectoralis major myocutaneous flap. Adequate

AbstractBackground:Panendoscopy is routinely used for the identification of occult second primary tumours in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. However, its role in low risk subgroups, particularly non-smoking, non-drinking patients and patients presenting with early stage oral cavity lesions, is debatable. Methods:The records of 112 patients with T1 or T2 oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma were retrospectively reviewed. Demographic, disease characteristics and survival data were collected. Results:Average follow-up duration was 71.7 months (range, 3.6–238.3 months). Thirty-five patients di

AbstractA case of carcinoma of the lung with a metastasis on the tongue is presented. The case is of interest because, although primary carcinomas of the tongue are fairly common accounting for 50 per cent of all oral carcinomas, metastatic tumour represents only one per cent of all malignant tumours of the oral cavity and of these only 0.2 per cent metastasize to the tongue.

Children treated for brain tumours often have late-appearing complications that may affect their school performance. Uneven skill profiles may help reveal late complications that can be compensated for but otherwise remain undetected. We investigated Swedish national school tests of oral, reading and writing skills in the first foreign language (English), the mother tongue (Swedish) and mathematics. Data were obtained from The Swedish Childhood Cancer Registry and Statistics Sweden. The results from 475 children diagnosed with a brain tumour before their 15th birthday and 2197 matched controls

The prevalence of an oral lesion varies by geographic regions. The Dental Specialist Clinic, Hospital Sibu in Malaysia is one of the main referral centers in Sarawak. The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence and distribution of common referred oral lesions to Dental Specialist Clinic, Sibu Hospital from year 2006 until 2011. A total of 187 histopathological records of oral tissue biopsied that fulfil the inclusion and exclusion criteria were reviewed and analysed. Oral and maxillofacial diseases were seen more in female (female to male ratio was 1.5:1), young adults (28%) and among

Abstract This case report presents a rare benign salivary gland tumour called sialadenoma papilliferum. It comprises 3 to 5% of head and neck tumours and about 1% of all minor salivary gland tumours. The focus is on discussing the BRAFV600E mutation analysis and exploring its clinical implications, along with delving into the histopathological differentials. We documented a 73-year-old male, who had a white patch in the left retromolar trigone region for 6 months. The tumour was excised with a clinical diagnosis of verrucous lesion. Myofibromas are benign neoplasms of myofibroblastic origin and rarely encountered in the oral cavity. Myofibroma may frequently grow rapidly leading to suspicion of malignancy. This may lead to a tendency for aggressive management. The histopathology of this tumour has similarity with other spindle cell tumours and often requires immunohistochemical staining for diagnosis. Here, we present a case of myofibroma in a 15-year-old female patient who reported with an aggressive gingival swelling and discuss the various histopathological differential diagnosis.
