This 52-year-old male underwent fine needle aspiration biopsy of a 2cm diameter parotid mass that was firm, well-delineated, and vaguely moveable, The mass was not painful and was noted for about a year. The aspiration biopsy smear was quite cellular and showed fragments of spindle-shaped cells with cigar shaped nuclei and scanty to indistinct cytoplasms. Nuclei were vesicular and Verocay-like bodies were identified by cell patterns. The biopsy was read as a benign spindle cell tumor, probably a schwannoma.  Excision of the mass revealed a typical schwannoma by histopathology.&#x0D

Approximately one to 10% of patients with Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection associated with salivary gland disease. The presence of Benign lymphoepithelial cyst (BLEC) in the parotid gland is an indicator of HIV Infection. The diagnosis is usually based on a clinical course and HIV confirmatory blood testing. We have reported a case of a 35 years old Nepalese male patient with swelling of the bilateral parotid glands and HIV associated BLEC confirmed by Rapid diagnostic test kit (Determine unigold stat pack).

AbstractTwelve cases of adenolymphoma with inflammation are described. Pre-operatively, three of these patients presented clinical signs of inflammation in the parotid gland. In ten cases purulent exudate could be aspirated from the tumour. Rupture of the cyst may cause an aseptic inflammation in the surrounding tissue. It is concluded that adult patients with clinical or cytological signs of inflammation in the parotid gland must be supervised until the gland is normal in order not to miss an underlying tumour.
