Abstract Here we revise the taxonomy of the South American genus Raysymmela Saylor, 1947 and perform a phylogenetic analysis based on 126 morphological characters. We propose one new synonym, Raysymmela pallipes (Blanchard, 1850) (= Symmela boliviensis Moser, 1919 syn. n.), and three new combinations, Raysymmela costaricensis (Moser, 1924) comb. n., Raysymmela seticollis (Moser, 1921) comb. n., and Raysymmela varians (Erichson, 1847) comb. n. Three new species of cleptoparasites of the rare genus Austrostelis Michener &amp; Griswold are described. Austrostelis mexicana Griswold n. sp. and A. costaricensis Griswold n.sp. represent a northern extension of the genus into Mesoamerica while A. bicolor Griswold n. sp. from Venezuela adds to our limited knowledge for northern South America. A key to the species from Mesoamerica and northern South America is provided.

Pitahaya (Hylocereus spp.), also called dragon fruit, is a cultivated cactus that is native to Mexico as well as Central and South America. In September 2021, soft rot of fruit of H. ocamponis, H. undatus, and H. costaricensis was observed in a commercial orchard located in La Cruz de Elota, Sinaloa, Mexico. The disease occurred on approximately 15% of pitahaya fruit. Lesions on fruits were water-soaked and light brown, extending to the whole fruit and covered with mycelia, sporangiophores, and sporangia.
