The phasic contraction to phenylephrine of the rat isolated portal vein was investigated using functional studies. Phasic contractions to phenylephrine and caffeine could be produced after several minutes in Ca2+-free Krebs solution, which were inhibited by cyclopiazonic acid or ryanodine. The phenylephrine and caffeine contractions were abolished, however, within 10 min in Ca2+-free Krebs solution and by nifedipine. This indicated the Ca2+ stores were depleted in the absence of Ca2+ influx through voltage-gated channels. The phasic contraction to phenylephrine was also abolished by niflumic a

Current models of drug‐induced psychosis insufficiently describe the symptoms of schizophrenia. Phencyclidine‐induced psychosis is a model that more completely reflects the pathophysiology of the disease. By decreasing glutamatergic neurotransmission, phencyclidine decreases 7‐aminobutyric acid release from the nucleus accumbens, striatum, and hippocampus (manifested by MK‐801); may inhibit tonic release of dopamine from the nucleus accumbens and striatum, resulting in increased dopamine phasic reactivity; and decreases long‐term potentiation. A control group (Control) experienced both tastants without nutrients. Preferences (>90%) developed for each CS+. We recorded responses to 16 taste stimuli in the nucleus of the solitary tract.
