Wasit city, Iraq provided a total of twenty-four different samples of urine for the researchers to examine. The samples were first cultured onto Ma-Cconkey agar and Blood agar, and placed into brain heart infusion broth. Microscopic inspection, cultural characteristics, biochemical assays, and the Api20 E system were all utilized to independently verify the isolates' identities. Only two out of twenty-four human samples (8.3%) included Providencia species, with P. rettgeri being the most prevalent of those species. Using the disc diffusion technique, tests of antimicrobial susceptibility were

ABSTRACT Providencia rettgeri is a clinically significant opportunistic pathogen that is involved in urinary tract infections. Due to the resolution limitations of identification, distinguishing P. rettgeri from closely related species is challenging by commercial biochemical test systems. Here, we first reported a novel species, Providencia hangzhouensis , which had been misidentified as P. rettgeri . Exhibiting ≤91.97% average nucleotide identity (ANI) and ≤46.10% in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values with all known Providencia species, P. hangzhouensis falls well beneath the established sp

ABSTRACT Geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) are compounds responsible for taste and odor issues in water, rendering drinking water unpalatable and prompting customer complaints. The present study aimed to identify geosmin and 2-MIB degrading bacteria. The Biolog MT2 assay was used to determine bacterial metabolism on geosmin and 2-MIB. Out of 100 and 23 native bacteria screened using the Biolog MT2 assay, 73 bacterial isolates tested positive. Degradation kinetics identified 10 bacteria capable of degrading both geosmin and 2-MIB. These bacteria were further characterized through 16S rDNA

Soil salinity has adverse effects on soil microbial activity and nutrient cycles and therefore limits crop growth and yield. Amendments with halotolerant phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) and rock phosphate (RP) may improve properties of saline soil. In this study, we investigated the effects of RP either alone or in combination with PSB (Providencia rettgeri strain TPM23) on peanut growth and soil quality in a saline soil. With the combined application of RP and PSB, plant length and biomass (roots and shoots) and uptake of phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N), and potassium (K) increased signifi
