Cercospora kikuchii, involved with the defoliation of soybean (Glycine max) plants, is normally associated with Septoria glycines in late season. Seventy-two isolates from different regions in Brazil, obtained mainly from purple stained seeds, showed phenotypic variation. Cercosporin content and rate of colony growth was higly variable among isolates. A strong correlation between cercosporin content and virulence was identified. Genetic variation among and within populations was evaluated based on 86 RAPD loci. The RAPD analysis clustered all isolates into seven groups. No relationship was obs

In this study, thirty one (31) morphologically distinct selections of saffron crop were used for molecular characterization. Molecular characterization was done through SSR, ISSR and RAPD markers. RAPD and ISSR markers showed significant variation; however, SSR markers did not reveal any variation between the selected clones. The Jaccard’s similarity coefficient ranged from 0.94 to 1.00 with an average of 0.98 among all 31 selections used. Minimum similarity value (0.94) was observed between CITH-S-107 and PAM-S-116 selections. The study provides sufficient knowledge to identify clones with be

Total genomic DNAs were extracted from several populations of pine species and amplified using oligonucleotides of random sequences. Polymorphism in random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers was high and sufficient in distinguishing each of the species. Genetic relationships among eight pine species (Pinus sylvestris, Pinus strobus, Pinus rigida, Pinus resinosa, Pinus nigra, Pinus contorta, Pinus monticola, and Pinus banksiana) from different provenances were analyzed. The degree of band sharing was used to evaluate genetic distance between species and to construct a phylogenetic tree. I
