Reading is one of the literacy skills set as Indonesia's national education goal and become a necessary skill in the 21st century. The reading skill of students of MTs Al-Hidayah Batu has not met the ideal standard. Achieving reading skills requires adequate vocabulary mastery and selecting appropriate methods. This study was designed to measure the influence of the reading guide method on students' knowledge of Arabic reading skills. The design of this study is quasi-experiments. There are 30 samples taken from a total population of 120 people using the purposive sampling technique. Data collected through tests, questionnaires, and interviews are analyzed using a t-test. The results show that the reading guide method can improve students' reading skills. Proven by the t-test result of the reading ability with a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.010 < 0.05. This statistical test implied that Ho was rejected. Ha is accepted, which means that there is a positive influence on the use of the reading guide method in improving students' reading skills, indicated by increasing the ability to read appropriately, mentioning the meaning of vocabulary in the text, answering questions based on the text, summarizing and retelling the content.

Đọc là một cách để học tập và hưởng thụ. Đặc biệt, trong việc học ngoại ngữ thứ hai, khả năng đọc tốt là cần thiết cho việc học tiếng Anh với mục đích học thuật và mục đích nghề nghiệp cũng như trong nhiều chương trình giảng dạy của các trường đại học. Nhiều nghiên cứu trước đây đã chỉ ra, sinh viên dành nhiều thời gian đối với các bài học đọc để đạt được năng lực như vậy. Mặc dù có nhiều năm được hướng dẫn và thực hành về cách đọc, nhiều sinh viên học tiếng Anh vẫn gặp khó khăn trong việc cải thiện khả năng đọc. Tất nhiên, có một số lý do cho việc này như việc thiếu từ vựng, đọc lưu loát và thói quen đọc. Có nhiều cách khác nhau để cải thiện khả năng đọc của sinh viên và một trong số đó là phương thức “đọc mở rộng”. Various hypotheses derived from Annett's (1972; 1985) genetic theory of handedness are experimentally tested. Results from the first investigation show that excessive bias in favour of right handedness is due to a weakness in left rather than superiority of right hand skill, and is associated with poor nonverbal reasoning ability. A second investigation indicated that risks to reading problems were increased in children with either too little or too much bias in favour of dextrality. A further three studies investigated patterns of ability and disability at both laterality extremes. It was found that language deficits were more frequent in children reduced in bias towards the right hand. An attempt to find a task which those at the dextral tail of the laterality distribution were worse at than those at the sinistral tail met with inconclusive results. The experimental findings are, in general compatible with Annett's hypothesis of a human balanced polymorphism with heterozygote advantage for ability.

The Rapid Automatized Naming test (RAN) has been shown to be a strong predictor of reading ability (Katzir et al., 2006), however the nature of this relationship remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the underlying components of RAN, and to then determine whether these components partially account for the relationship between RAN and reading ability. The sample consisted of 100 undergraduate students. The underlying components of RAN that were evaluated included, visual search and scanning, auditory and visual sequencing, discrete naming, confrontation naming, executive functioning and phonological processing. The findings suggest that visual search and scanning, auditory sequential processing, discrete naming and executive functioning are all significant underlying components of RAN. Additionally, the findings suggest that visual scanning and auditory sequential processing partially mediate the relationship between RAN and reading fluency.

Generally, females are regarded as the group who has better verbal and reading abilities (Maccoby & Jacklin, 1974; Denno, 1982), although there are still some disagreements on particular aspects or language systems (Hyde & Linn, 1988; Hetherington & Parke, 1986). We asked whether gender differences of reading ability exist in Chinese children and if so, how the difference may be demonstrated. In addition, we investigated whether the development of reading ability follows a hierarchical model (Gough &Hillinger, 1980; Ehri, 1980; Ehri & Wilce, 1985), according to which, the gender differences may vary with age and reading experience. We tested children’s character reading ability and phonological awareness in a Shandong primary school. Fifty-five second graders and forty-three fourth graders performed behavioral tasks containing a Chinese character reading test, a Chinese onset-rime oddity test and an English onset-rime oddity test. We found that Chinese children exhibited a significant gender difference in Chinese character reading ability. However, we have not found gender differences on onset-rime level phonological awareness. Thus, gender differences of reading ability exist in Chinese children, even if the differences only cover partial phonological or orthographic skills. The present data have also yielded the predicted result that the development of gender differences change with age and reading experience. Specifically, the gender difference on Chinese character reading ability emerged after Grade 2. In terms of the onset-rime oddity task, the performances of boys and girls showed no striking difference at any grades. These results reveal that gender differences of reading ability exist in Chinese children, especially in children in higher grades (Grade 4). Abstract Time is money and the ability to speed up the process of taking and analysing coating thickness readings will always pay dividends in reducing inspection costs. Scanning an area of painted steel will always be quicker than taking individual readings but there was always the danger of wearing the probe and reducing its life. There are now probes fitted with a replaceable wearing surface to protect the probe from abrasion wear when using the probe to scan a surface. Simple plastic caps can be fitted to these probes and the thickness of the cap can be taken in to account in the calibration procedure. Gauge firmware has also been developed to allow the data generated by the scan to be processed and analysed to produce either an average value for the thickness in the area together with a highest and lowest reading (scan mode), or to produce a batch of individual readings at the rate of 140 reading/minute (auto repeat mode). This firmware is supported by Data Management Software to automate the presentation of the results in reports. This paper describes the scanning probes and their use and describes how coating thickness data can be collected for analysis using the method described in SSPC PA-2 for determining conformance to dry coating thickness requirements.

งานวิจัยนี้มุ่งศึกษาการใช้คอมพิวเตอร์ในการพัฒนาความสามารถในการอ่านด้านการอ่านเร็วและการอ่านเพื่อจับใจความ นิสิตจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย คณะพาณิชยศาสตร์และการบัญชี จำนวน 99 คส ได้ฝึกอ่านเร็วภาษาอังกฤษจากโปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์ โปรแกรมนี้ประกอบด้วยกิจกรรมที่มุ่งพัฒนาความเร็วในการอ่าน เช่น การเคลื่อนสายตา การอ่านจับเวลา และการอ่านตามเวลาที่กำหนดให้ การเปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการอ่านเร็ว การอ่านเพื่อจับใจความและสมิทธิภาพหรือความสามารถทั่วไปในการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษของนิสิตก่อนและหลังการฝึกฝนกับความสามารถดังกล่าวของนิสิตที่ไม่ได้รับการฝึก ผลปรากฏว่านิสิตกลุ่มทดลองฝึกโปรแกรมการอ่านเร็วภาษาอังกฤษได้พัฒนาความเร็วในการอ่านอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ นิสิตกลุ่มทดลองยังได้พัฒนาการอ่านภาษาอ้งกฤษเพื่อจับใจความและสมิทธิภาพทางภาษาอังกฤษมากขึ้น แต่มีผลไม่แตกต่างอย่างมีนัยสำคัยจากนิสิตกลุ่มที่ไม่ได้รับการฝึก จากผลของการวิจัยนี้จึงควรนำโปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์ที่ใช้สอนการอ่านเร็วมาใช้ในการเรียนการสอนภาษาอังกฤษด้วยเพื่อช่วยให้อ่านได้เร็วขึ้น

Review question / Objective: This meta-analysis was aimed to statistically analyze the efficacy, safety, predictability, and stability of LASIK in presbyopia correction. At the same time, through subgroup analysis, we compared the effects of different corneal ablation models and different corneal flap preparation methods to a certain extent. Condition being studied: Presbyopia refers to the decline of age-related accommodation ability, which usually leads to impaired near vision and asthenopia. It is estimated that nearly 1.8 billion people will have presbyopia by 2050, most of whom will live in developing countries. Presbyopia develops inevitably and irreversibly, and with the increasing pressure of close or medium distance reading or working on a variety of electronic devices, presbyopia has become one of the major physiological problems that patients want to solve.

Assessments, especially those used for high-stakes decision making, draw on evidence-based frameworks. Such frameworks inform every aspect of the testing process, from development to results reporting. The frameworks that language assessment professionals use draw on theory in language learning, assessment design, and measurement and psychometrics in order to provide underpinnings for the evaluation of language skills including speaking, writing, reading, and listening. This paper focuses on the construct, or underlying trait, of writing ability. The paper conceptualizes the writing construct for the Duolingo English Test, a digital-first assessment. “Digital-first” includes technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, with human expert involvement, throughout all item development, test scoring, and security processes. This work is situated in the Burstein et al. (2022) theoretical ecosystem for digital-first assessment, the first representation of its kind that incorporates design, validation/measurement, and security all situated directly in assessment practices that are digital first. The paper first provides background information about the Duolingo English Test and then defines the writing construct, including the purposes for writing. It also introduces principles underpinning the design of writing items and illustrates sample items that assess the writing construct.

The world is facing a rapid increase of air conditioning of buildings. It is the motivation of Annex 80 to develop, assess and communicate solutions of resilient cooling and overheating protection. Resilient Cooling is used to denote low energy and low carbon cooling solutions that strengthen the ability of individuals and our community to withstand, and prevent, thermal and other impacts of changes in global and local climates. This report offers a collection of 16 technologies, well suited to form a part of Resilient Cooling solutions of Buildings. It is meant as a package of information for those who are in the position to draw decisions upon building-design, both retrofit and new constructions. The research conducted by Dr. Wang set out to improve pipeline design to better accommodate significant localized ground movement such as that caused by landslides, earthquakes, or subsidence/settlement. When such a ground movement event occurs along the right-of-way (ROW) of a buried pipeline, it is imperative that the pipeline operator determine whether the ground movement is a threat to pipeline integrity in order to protect those responding to the event, those living near the affected ROW, and the environment. This webinar will discuss the research findings and provide guidance to pipeline operators responding to a ground movement event. Modern technologies for diagnosing tuberculosis and effective treatment regimens contribute to the fight against the disease in various ways. In general, modern diagnostic and treatment technologies increase the chances of early detection and treatment of tuberculosis, reducing morbidity and improving quality of life. This study aimed to determine the optimal model for the implementation of computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) systems in Ukrainian TB facilities in Lviv and Sumy oblasts. The study had the following components: Data collection from TB facilities included an assessment of the current workload of radiologists and phthisiologists. The staffing potential of the institutions and their technical equipment were determined to understand the ability to use CAD systems. The qualitative component of the study aimed to assess the attitude and acceptance of CAD among physicians, including radiologists and phthisiologists, and national experts, their views on possible models of CAD implementation, as well as to identify barriers and facilitators for CAD implementation. The calibration component of the study consisted of determining the optimal diagnostic characteristics and thresholds of the selected CAD in the local context and methods of its use. CAD implementation cost estimation was to determine the assessment and economic cost of implementing CAD systems in Ukraine. CAD technology can improve the efficiency and practicality of radiography when used for TB screening and triage. In the Ukrainian context, this could be useful in TB control programs by expanding TB screening capacity. This technology can replace or complement human reading of X-rays during TB screening, help avoid differences in interpretation between examiners, and reduce delays in X-ray evaluation, especially when there is a lack of qualified personnel.
