Although the Device-to-Device (D2D) technology in cellular networks can improve the performance of cellular systems, it creates a large amount of interference in traditional communications. In this paper, the problem of resource allocation and control in a single-cell scene is studied. First, the concept of a restricted D2D communication area and a restricted D2D user-reusage area is put forward to reduce the complexity and interference intensity of resource allocation. Second, under the premise of satisfying the QoS (Quality of Service) demands of every system user, the resource allocation algorithm is improved, the optimal allocation of resources is carried out, and the algorithm’s processes are given in detail. Our simulated experiments show that the proposed method greatly improves the spectrum efficiency and the system fairness.

Over the last years, the National Theatre, London (NT) has presented props and costumes in its restaurant, the Green Room, and in its bar, the Propstore, thereby shedding a different light on theatre objects. It also widely advertises the option of hiring costumes and props from its Hire department. These practices challenge theatre studies to reconsider the usage of theatre objects and their manifold stage lives not only as stories of (in)animation, but as what I call potentials of reusage. Presenting theatre objects in unusual locations like a restaurant emphasizes that these objects are built or manipulated in theatre workshops, thereby shedding light on the craftsmanship that is foundational to every production. The labour of the workshops, as well as different backstage operations, has been ignored by theatre historiography. Analysing the NT's different staging of props invites us to look into the hidden histories of theatre materiality.

Streszczenie:
A fast support vector machine (SVM) training algorithm is proposed under SVM's decomposition framework by effectively integrating kernel caching, digest and shrinking policies and stopping conditions. Kernel caching plays a key role in reducing the number of kernel evaluations by maximal reusage of cached kernel elements. Extensive experiments have been conducted on a large handwritten digit database MNIST to show that the proposed algorithm is much faster than Keerthi et al.'s improved SMO, about nine times. Combined with principal component analysis, the total training for ten one-against-the-rest classifiers on MNIST took less than an hour. Moreover, the proposed fast algorithm speeds up SVM training without sacrificing the generalization performance. The 0.6% error rate on MNIST test set has been achieved. The promising scalability of the proposed scheme paves a new way to solve more large-scale learning problems in other domains such as data mining.

The spatiotemporal robustness of the MIMO transmissions is exploited aiming at inducing opportunistic secondary communications on the primary radio resources. The proposed model makes use of the smallest singular values and the Extreme Value Theory for characterizing the robustness of the MIMO systems, having always the premise of preventing significant degradations in the performance of the primary communications, while at the same time an attractive number of potential opportunities for secondary are intended to be offered. So, the idea behind the suggested scheme consists in reusing the information that is already available within the primary MIMO networks aiming at cotransmitting opportunistically in a clever manner, which at the end will allow us to make a much more efficient use of both the natural and technical resources.

Streszczenie:
One of the key requirements for mobile devices is to provide high-performance computing at lower power consumption. The processors used in these devices provide specific hardware resources to handle computationally intensive video processing and interactive graphical applications. Moreover, processors designed for low-power applications may introduce limitations on the availability and usage of resources, which present additional challenges to the system designers. Owing to the specific design of the JZ47x series of mobile application processors, a hybrid software-hardware implementation scheme for H.264/AVC encoder is proposed in this work. The proposed scheme distributes the encoding tasks among hardware and software modules. A series of optimization techniques are developed to speed up the memory access and data transferring among memories. Moreover, an efficient data reusage design is proposed for the deblock filter video processing unit to reduce the memory accesses. Furthermore, fine grained macroblock (MB) level parallelism is effectively exploited and a pipelined approach is proposed for efficient utilization of hardware processing cores. Finally, based on parallelism in the proposed design, encoding tasks are distributed between two processing cores. Experiments show that the hybrid encoder is 12 times faster than a highly optimized sequential encoder due to proposed techniques.

Ordered periodic mesoporous benzene-silicas (Ph-PMOs) functionalized with organotin were synthesized by co-condensing (MeO)2ClSi(CH2)3SnCl3, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), and 1,4-bis(triethoxysilyl)-benzene in a Pluronic 123 acid solution. The diffraction lines for (100), (110), and (200) facets observed in their X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and parallel channels in their transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images show that the samples have highly ordered hexagonal array structure. The presence of bands characteristic for phenyl groups, tetrahedral and octahedral Sn species, and Qn and Tn species in their Fourier transform/infrared (FT/IR), diffuse reflectance UV–vis, and NMR spectra gives convincing evidence for the incorporation of phenyl groups and (MeO)2ClSi(CH2)3SnCl3 into the framework or silica wall. The organotin-functionalized Ph-PMOs exhibit much higher catalytic activity than organotin-functionalized mesoporous silica lacking phenyl groups in the framework, for direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from methanol and CO2, although both have high catalytic stability. This may be attributed to its enhanced surface hydro-phobicity and the presence of a large number of hexa-coordinated Sn species and tiny Sn oxide clusters in the former sample. The DMC yield obtained over the prepared organotin-functionalized Ph-PMOs increases monotonically with increasing CO2 pressure. The material also exhibits high catalytic stability upon reusage.

Abstract Because of the degeneracy of the genetic code, multiple codons are translated into the same amino acid. Despite being “synonymous,” these codons are not equally used. Selective pressures are thought to drive the choice among synonymous codons within a genome, while GC content, which is typically attributed to mutational drift, is the major determinant of variation across species. Here, we find that in addition to GC content, interspecies codon usage signatures can also be detected. More specifically, we show that a single amino acid, arginine, is the major contributor to codon usage bias differences across domains of life. We then exploit this finding and show that domain-specific codon bias signatures can be used to classify a given sequence into its corresponding domain of life with high accuracy. We then wondered whether the inclusion of codon usage codon autocorrelation patterns, which reflects the nonrandom distribution of codon occurrences throughout a transcript, might improve the classification performance of our algorithm. However, we find that autocorrelation patterns are not domain-specific, and surprisingly, are unrelated to tRNA reusage, in contrast to previous reports. Instead, our results suggest that codon autocorrelation patterns are a by-product of codon optimality throughout a sequence, where highly expressed genes display autocorrelated “optimal” codons, whereas lowly expressed genes display autocorrelated “nonoptimal” codons.

There is an urgent need to assess European citizens’ perspective regarding their plastic consumption and to evaluate their awareness of the direct and indirect effect of plastics on human health in order to influence current behavior trends. In this study, the evaluation has been cross-related with scientific facts, with the final aim of detecting the most recommendable paths in increasing human awareness, reducing plastic consumption, and consequently impacting human health. A statistical analysis of quantitative data, gathered from 1000 European citizens via an online survey in the period from May to June 2020, showed that a general awareness about the direct impact of plastic consumption and contamination (waste) on human health is high in Europe. However, only a few participants (from a higher educational group) were aware of the indirect negative effects that oil extraction and industrial production of plastic can have on human health. This finding calls for improved availability of this information to general public. Despite the participants’ positive attitude toward active plastic reduction (61%), plastic consumption on a daily basis is still very high (86%). The most common current actions toward plastic reduction are plastic bag usage, reusage, or replacement with sustainable alternatives (e.g., textile bags) and selecting products with less plastic packaging. The participants showed important criticism toward the information available to the general public about plastics and health. This awareness is important since significant relation has been found between the available information and the participants’ decisions on the actions they might undertake to reduce plastic consumption. The study clearly showed the willingness of the participants to take action, but they also requested to be strongly supported with joint efforts from government, policies, and marketing, defining it as the most successful way toward implementing these changes.

Festivals generate huge amounts of waste during a short period of time, usually in three to four days. Single-use packaging is one of the dominant waste streams at the festivals. In order to minimize single-use plastic packaging waste generation and negative impacts on the environment, outdoor festivals apply alternative reusable cup systems and strategies. However, little studies have been made on how different reusable beverage cup reuse models can affect material circularity within certain festivals, and how it contributes to cup damage and loss. This article presents the results of a pilot study of different reusable cup reuse models within seven Lithuanian summer outdoor festivals. Three different models were applied and tested: A—only reusable cups, non-refundable model; B—only reusable cups, with deposit-refund; C—a mixed system of reusable cups with deposit-refund and of single-use cups. Material flow analysis (MFA) was performed, and the Materials Circularity Indicator (MCI), developed by Ellen MacArthur Foundation, was calculated to study the applied models. According to the findings, refund models (B, C models) have lower rates of damaged and lost cups compared to non-refundable reusable cup reuse model (A model). This paper shows that different reuse models provide different damage, loss and return rates of reusable cups. The data presented can aid decision-makers who need to choose a reuse model for a certain event.

The regulations of legislative bodies regarding the recycling and reusage of automotive materials has caused a great deal of obligation among automotive manufacturers to use natural fibres or green composites. Green composites or more commonly known as bio-composites are made up of natural fibres. Natural fibres are used by humankind since prehistoric times. The natural fibre is obtained from plants as well as animals. Since the natural fibre is obtained from natural as well as biological resources, it is biodegradable and recyclable. This paper presents the study and analysis conducted to address the suitability of natural fibre in the automotive industry. This paper discusses the finite element analysis of four different natural fibre composites used for making car door panel, i.e., flax, jute, sisal, and leather are taken for the material study. This paper helps to find the effectiveness of each of the four natural fibre composites that have already been used in the automotive sector. This paper includes the analysis of four different natural fibres with and without the addition of the aluminium as the reinforcement material. This project revolves around the design of the composite fibre sheet and analysis of the mechanical parameters such as equivalent stress, shear stress, strain, deformation, and so on. The studies and observations of the analysis showed that the natural fibre with the aluminium reinforcement proved to be much stronger than that without the reinforcement. The results of finite element analysis showcased lowest total deformation and equivalent strain in the flax as 1.026 m and 0.017 mm/mm, respectively. However, sisal showed the lowest equivalent stress and shear stress which were 68.09 and 38.178 MPa, respectively. Additionally, leather showed the highest amount of stress, strain, and deformation, and hence leather was deemed to have undesirable properties regarding the usage in car door panels. All the materials except leather were found to be safe under the loading conditions. Hence, the flax fibre is recommended by the project to have superior properties compared to the other materials.

Streszczenie:
Problem: Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs) are products that are purchased and consumed frequently to satisfy continuous consumer demand. In a linear economy, FMCGs are typically offered as single-use and disposable products. Limitations in product design, insufficient collection systems, and inefficient recovery processes prevent high recycling rates. As a result, FMCGs often end up in landfill or the environment, contributing to waste accumulation, and pollution. Whilst recycling is the most common waste prevention strategy practiced by the industry, the process is limited to addressing only the final stage of the product life cycle, omitting the overproduction and consumption of materials typical of FMCGs. Instead, reuse is a strategy that is capable of extending the value of resources by slowing material flows. Novel reuse models that require the consumer to interact with durable primary packaging and products are emerging in the FMCG industry. However, the constituent elements and operation principles of such reuse models are not fully understood. The aim of this research is to develop a comprehensive characterisation of reuse models and to evaluate their potential to deliver environmental value. Method: Ninety-two reuse offerings were selected and analysed to identify their reuse system elements. The analysis led to the identification of a framework including five reuse models, which were also evaluated to establish their capability to deliver environmental value when compared to conventional single-use and disposable FMCGs. Results: Currently in the FMCG sector, reusable products are mostly durable packaging, such as bottles and containers for beverages, foods, personal and home care goods, and are infrequently durable products, such as personal and baby care goods, including razors and nappies. Three reuse models involve exclusive reuse, a behaviour by which a reusable product is used and kept by a single user throughout the product lifetime. In exclusive reuse models, users are provided with either a reusable product (model 1), a reusable product with preparation for reuse infrastructure (model 2), or access to preparation for reuse infrastructure (model 3). Two reuse models involve sequential reuse, a behaviour by which a reusable product is used by multiple users throughout the product lifetime and returned after each use to a provider. In sequential reuse models, users are provided with either a reusable product with preparation for reuse infrastructure and provider-operated recovery services (model 4), or a reusable product and provider-operated services for recovery and preparation for reuse (model 5). Whilst the five reuse models can operate standalone, some offerings were found to embed a multi-model approach. Both exclusive and sequential reuse models are capable of delivering environmental value by reducing the use of natural resources and retaining their value in the economy. In particular, sequential reuse models were found to have a greater capability to increase the share of recyclable resources by offering access to infrastructure for the closure of material loops. Conclusions: Consumers can currently access five reuse models and choose between exclusive and sequential reuse behaviours. When adopted in conjunction with recycling, reuse models can enable a more efficient consumption of FMCGs. Providing the infrastructure necessary to enable reuse and recycling is key to the successful and sustainable deployment of the reuse models.

The architecture, engineering, and construction sector requires carbon-intensive materials, such as steel, in the construction process and generates a large amount of waste in the life cycle. This causes global warming and waste problems. The demand for the reuse of construction materials is increasing, although it is not the convention, to reduce the environmental impact. Although the sustainable effect of the reuse of materials has been proven in several studies, materials are not always reused in practice, owing to the lack of an information system for reusable materials and the economic uncertainty. In this study, we propose a framework for designing structures using reusable steel beams. The design framework consists of a material bank and a design support tool. The material bank provides information on reusable materials based on the building information modeling. The design support tool generates efficient material procurement plans and provides information about the environmental and economic impact of the project. In a case study used to verify the framework, CO2 emissions were reduced by up to 77% through material reuse, which was consistent with the results of previous studies. However, owing to the cost of processing reusable materials, the overall cost was found to increase by up to about 40%. Therefore, an economic analysis over the entire life cycle when using reusable materials needs to be done.

Developing reusable components are one of the main objectives of component-based software engineering. They play a crucial role in the field of application development and support. CBSE use certain architectural patterns and infrastructures of standard software to increase overall product quality. CBSE apply two parallel engineering activities, domain engineering and component-based development (CBD). Domain analysis explores the application domain with the intent of finding functional, behavioural, and data components that are candidates for reuse and places them in the reuse repository. Strategies for developing adaptive reusable components using top-down domain analysis leads to good quality in the component. Domain analysis promotes strategies and models that have been developed for their specific areas. Therefore, these models are suitable for their own domain, but may not be entirely suitable for domain analysis of other domains. So, developing the reusable components using the top down domain analyses existing components. This paper describes how to build a domain to use top-down analysis of reusable software components.

Biggerstaff and Richter suggest that there are four fundamental subtasks associated with operationalizing the reuse process [1]. They are finding reusable components, understanding these components, modifying these components, and composing components. Each of these sub-problems can be re-expressed as a knowledge acquisition sub-problem relative to producing a new representation for the components that make them more suitable for future reuse. In this paper, we express the first two subtasks for the software reuse activity, as described by Biggerstaff and Richter, as a problem in Machine Learning. From this perspective, the goal of software reuse is to learn to recognize reusable software in terms of code structure, run-time behavior, and functional specification. The Partial Metrics (PM) System supports the acquisition of reusable software at three different levels of granularity: the system level, the procedural level, and the code segment level. Here, we describe how the system extracts procedural knowledge from an example Pascal software system that satisfies a set of structural, behavioral, and functional constraints. These constraints are extracted from a set of positive and negative examples using inductive learning techniques. The constraints are expressed quantitatively in terms of various quality models and metrics. The general characteristics of learned constraints that were extracted from a variety of applications libraries are discussed.

At the heart of the circular economy model is the reorientation of consumer behaviours away from disposing of items before they reach end of their functional life as a step towards resource efficiency and reduction of environmental impacts. One way to facilitate this change is to enable proactive redistribution of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) with reuse value from urban spaces followed by high quality recycling at end-of-life. We have conducted the first assessment and critical evaluation of a model for the recovery of reusable EEE from a distinct urban mine (DUM) - in this case, a university. The Infrastructure, Service and Behaviour (ISB) model was used as a guide for interventions. EEE recovered from two Halls of Residence at the University of Southampton were characterised and sorted. From the items inspected, 97% was reusable and were donated to participating charities for redistribution via reuse/sale. The results show that an ISB Model system designed using choice architecture to recover reusable EEE from a DUM contributes strongly to extending products’ lifetimes and promotes circular economy ambitions. The study provides strong evidence of a viable reuse-based recovery system for small EEE in a university DUM and with a potential for replicability at global scale. It is recommended that a carefully planned and tailored system based on the ISB model should be put in place in universities for the recovery and redistribution of reusable EEE (ReEEE) and that recycling is implemented only after practical options for reuse have been exhausted.

Managing and reusing knowledge in architecture, engineering, and construction firms can lead to greater competitive advantage, improved designs, and more effective management of constructed facilities. However, reuse often fails because knowledge is not captured; it is captured out of context, rendering it not reusable; or there are no formal mechanisms for finding and retrieving reusable knowledge. This paper presents ongoing research on design knowledge reuse that introduces the notion of knowledge in context from a corporate perspective. We argue that in order for knowledge to be reusable, the user should be able to see the rich context in which this knowledge was originally created and interact with it. We call a repository of such knowledge in context the corporate memory. We describe empirical observations of designers reusing knowledge from their personal design experiences. Based on these observations, we formalize two key activities in the process of knowledge reuse from a corporate repository: finding reusable items and understanding these items in context. We formalize six degrees of exploration that lead to understanding. We describe a prototype system, CoMem, that supports these activities. CoMem is distinguished from the document-centric state of practice solutions by its approach of “overview first, zoom and filter, and then details on demand.” In order to accomplish this approach we propose three metaphors: corporate map, fisheye lens, and storyteller. These metaphors and their implementation in CoMem are illustrated using an industry scenario.

Reuse is a fundamental activity, which increases quality and productivity of software products. Reuse of software artifacts, such as requirements, architectures, and codes can be employed at any developmental stage of software. However, reuse at a higher level of abstraction, for instance at requirements level, provides greater benefits in software development than when applied at lower level of abstraction for example at coding level. To achieve full benefits of reuse, a systematic approach and appropriate strategy need to be followed. Although several reuse approaches are reported in the literature, these approaches lack a key strategy to synergize some essential drivers of reuse, which include reusable structure, variability management (VM) and traceability of software artifacts. In line with this, we make our contribution in this paper by (1) presenting the concepts and importance of software requirements patterns (SRP) for reusable structure; (2) proposing a strategy, which combines three sub-disciplines of Software Engineering (SE) such as Requirements Engineering (RE), Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) and Model-driven Engineering (MDE); (3) proposing a meta-modeling constructs, which include SRP, VM and traceability and; (4) Relationship amongst the three sub-disciplines of the SE. This is a novel approach and we believe it can support and guide researchers and practitioners in SE community to have greater benefits of reuse during software developments.

The cluster-based classification scheme proposed in this paper alleviates the labor-intensity domain analysis problem often attributed to traditional facet-based classification schemes. We then concentrate on the facilities offered by SOORLS' tools, as well as its Web-based architecture, which allows distributed access to reusable components on servers from a variety of platforms.

Although reusable materials in a construction project need to be specifically managed by the head office of the construction company for proper retrieval and reuse, they are not efficiently managed. In many cases, construction companies treat reusable materials no differently from non-reusable materials. To manage reusable materials for effective and efficient procurement, the current procurement system needs to be improved based on the records of usage from multiple projects monitored and managed by the head office of the construction company. The objective of this paper is to discern and analyze the problems of the procurement process of reusable materials for current multiple projects by following case studies of three construction companies against this background. Based on the analysis, this paper emphasizes the need to implement systems for reusable materials procurement requests, outgoing materials quantity forecasts, and economic analysis for vehicle distribution, as well as the need to expand applicable uses of a resource pool. A model is also proposed to support the decision-making process in the procurement of reusable materials.

Streszczenie:
There is an increasing need for high-quality software components. Reusable components and formal specifications are two complementary and promising approaches to achieve this goal. One method for enhancing the reusability of existing components is generalization that creates generic components by parameterizing specific ones. Generalization and instantiation are two methods related respectively to the development for reuse and development with reuse. Generalization, that is the abstraction of existing components, identifies commonalities across a class of entities, while instantiation customizes the general properties under different circumstances. In this paper, we present several generalization and instantiation algorithms for algebraic specifications. A major difficulty during the generalization process is determining the appropriate level of generality. Highly specific components have little chance of being reused. Meanwhile, if a component is too general, its reuse might also be hard. Therefore, we introduce a novel method based on the categorized constructors to control the level of abstraction in generic components with the goal of producing effective reusable components. Through a medium-scale example, the generalization and instantiation operations are illustrated in detail.

A great deal of research over the past several years has been devoted to the development of methodologies to create reusable software components and component libraries. But the issue of how to find the contribution of the factor towards the successfulness of the reuse program is still in the naïve stage and very less work is done on the modeling of the success of the reuse. The success and failure factors are the key factors that predict the successful reuse of software. An algorithm has been proposed in which the inputs can be given to K-Means Clustering system in form of tuned values of the Data Factors and the developed model shows the high precision results , which describe the success of software reuse.

Streszczenie:
Model reuse is an essential means to meet the demand of model development in complex simulation. An effective approach to realize the model reusability is to establish standard model specification including interface specification and representation specification. By standardizing model’s external interfaces, Reusable Component Model Framework (RCMF) achieves the model reusability acting as an interface specification. However, the RCMF model is presently developed just through manual programing. Besides implementing model’s business logic, modeler should also ensure the model strictly following the reusable framework, which is very distracting. And there lacks model description information for instructing model reuse or integration. To address these issues, we first explored an XML-based model description file which completed RCMF as the model representation and then proposed a RCMF model development tool—SuKit. Model description file describes a RCMF model and can be used for regenerating a model and instructing model integration. SuKit can generate a skeleton RCMF model together with a model-customized description file with the configured information. Modeler then just needs to concentrate on the model processing logic. The case study indicates that SuKit has good capability of developing RCMF models and the well-formed description file can be used for model reuse and integration.

Current programming languages support construction of parameterized reusable components that can be adapted and composed to create new functionality. For widespread reuse, software components must also have readily adaptable performance. This paper introduces language mechanisms for creating such performance-parameterized reusable software components and for controlling their performance by "plugging in" appropriate constituent components. A key element of the proposed approach is that it provides inexpensive performance tuning. It permits performance of a tunable component to be changed without modifications to the functionality of the component or its clients; in principle, without the need for re-compilation or re-validation of functionality.

This article presents a case study exploring the use of software product lines and reference models as mechanisms of a reuse-based design process to build digital libraries. As a key component in a modern digital library, the reference architecture is responsible for helping define quality of the resulting repository. It is true that many efforts have been addressed towards providing interoperability; however, repositories are expected to provide high levels of reuse too, which goes beyond that of simple object sharing. This work presents the main steps we followed towards building a reusable digital library capable of accommodating such needs by (i) providing mechanisms to reuse resources, and (ii) enabling explicit sharing of commonalities in a distributed environment.

Streszczenie:
The rationality of design resource reusable model is the key to judging whether a mass customization system has adequate flexibility and agility or not. Based on the demand of the Design for Mass Customization (DFMC), design resource reusable model should not only include high-level feature information such as demands, functions, principles and constraints, but also include the underlying structural information such as geometry features and assembly relationship. Function Surface is the media between the function and the structure in concept design progress, which is processed to solve the uncertainty when the function maps directly to the structure. Based on Function Surface theory, the multi-layer design resource reusable model including the entity product layer, entity module layer, shell part layer, Function Pattern layer and Function Surface layer is proposed. The designer can browse and find the reusable model based on the different position of the decoupling point of the customer order in the production process. According to the model and the statistical data of the management, the reuse rate curve of design resource is drawn, and the overall optimization method of the design resource reusable standard model and the evolution method of the core technology are proposed.
