This article examines the rising food insecurity in the Orashi area, which comprises four local governments in Rivers State. From 2012 to 2022 there have been rising food shortages in the region as a result of many known factors such as climatic changes, rural insecurity, exchange rate and global food prices among others. Some works on food insecurity suggest factors like drought and diversification, but the food insecurity in the Orashi region area is caused mostly by natural forces and man-made actions of non-state security actors (cultists and militias) and activities of the royal fathers w

The length-weight relationship and condition factor of two hundred and seventy-one samples of Protopterus annectens (Owen, 1839) from Orashi and Sombreiro Rivers were investigated. The length-weight relationship calculated for the species gave an average “b” value of 1.0943 which is an indication of negative allometric growth. The fish attained an average length of 44.7 cm and weight of 150.2 g. The Condition factor varied from 0.10 to 0.19 with a mean of 0.15±0.02. This result showed that the rivers provide nourishable environment for the well-being of the fish. Keywords: Length-weight relatio

Samples were collected between October 2012 and September 2013. The analysis of the stomach content showed that the fish from both rivers fed mainly on detritus, which accounted for 100% of the stomachs examined. Other food items included remains of higher plants, filamentous algae and diatoms. A sex ratio of 1:1 male: female was observed, although, females were more predominant than males during the

Climate change-related disasters have in recent years become a global phenomenon with catastrophic consequences. Africa has had most of the consequences of climate change related disasters, resulting in monumental urban and rural flooding, widespread casualties, displacements, loss of property and sources of livelihood. Given the long-term implications of climate change, it is critically important to understand how vulnerable communities respond to the menace occasioned by flooding. The impact of the flooding is felt more in low-lying communities situated along the coastal fringes leaving inhe

In urban areas, water is usually provided through piped systems from specific sources to consumers. Cities, towns, and peri-urban settlements typically benefit from piped systems, while rural areas rely on water supplies from surface sources like rivers and canals, as well as ground sources such as wells and tube wells. When traditional methods fail, alternative water supply systems emerge in both urban and rural areas.
