The Littoral Region of Cameroon is one of the most highly disturbed regions in Cameroon that remain poorly studied and where no investigation regarding the grasshopper fauna has been conducted. Hence a survey was conducted from August 2015 to November 2018 in 11 localities of this region. In each locality, grasshoppers were sampled in three vegetation types (forests, fallows and cultivated farms) using sweep nets sampling method. We collected in total 51 short-horned grasshopper species belonging to the families Acrididae, Chorotypidae, Euschmidtiidae, Pyrgomorphidae and Thericleidae. Among th

The cytochrome b and 16s gene primers were used for grasshopper DNA analysis; while matK gene primers were used for plant DNA analysis. Locusts, a group comprising specific species of short-horned grasshoppers within the Acrididae family, undergo a phase where they swarm together. Typically solitary, these insects undergo a behavioural shift under certain conditions, becoming gregarious. These swarms of locusts pose a significant threat to agriculture, causing extensive damage to crops. Addressing this challenge, we're developing a simplified solution: a box equipped with ultraviolet light to attract locusts. As the locusts are drawn towards the light, they fall into the box, which then automatically closes to contain them. Su

The wandering of non-linear systems along the field of the possible development paths is one of the important characteristics of dynamic non-linear systems in synergetics. Insect populations are a complex of open biological systems with chaotic non-linear dynamics in space and time. Predicting their future development is not an easy task. Ignorance of the non-linear systems dynamics regularity is the cause of the repeated errors in predicting and, as a result, “sudden” appearances of “unexpected” and unpredictable mass reproductions of short-horned grasshoppers and locusts, winter moth, webwor

The genus Scelio is a cosmopolitan and speciose group of solitary parasitoids of the eggs of short-horned grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acrididae). A number of these hosts are important pests, including plague locusts of the genus Schistocerca. Species of Scelio are recognized as potentially important biological control agents, but this possibility has yet to be fully realized, in part because the species-level taxonomy is still incompletely developed. The species of the pulchripennis group have been recently revised. As a continuation of this effort, here we revise the Afrotr
