Transfer-messenger RNA (tmRNA) and small protein B (SmpB) reactivate stalled ribosomes in a process known as trans-translation. Software failure is one of the main problems in computer systems. Especially in systems with demand for high availability, such as telecom systems. SMPP is a protocol for sending short messages between entities in the telecom network. This thesis describes the design and implementation of a highly fault tolerant and reliable SMPP server and client. The implementation is done in Erlang, a language that was designed for fault tolerance. I detta arbete utvärderas de två versionerna av protokollet SMB1 och SMB2 i praktiska experiment.
