Streszczenie:
Recent studies revealed the emerging role of excess uptake of lipids in the development of hypothyroidism. However, the underlying mechanism is largely unknown. We investigated the effect of high-fat diet (HFD) on thyroid function and the role of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) in HFD-induced hypothyroidism. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed with HFD or control diet for 18 wk. HFD rats showed an impaired thyroid function, with decreased thyroglobulin (Tg) level. We found the ER stress was triggered in HFD rat thyroid glands and palmitate-treated thyrocytes. Luminal swelling of ER in thyroid epithel

Hypothyroidism is a prevalent endocrine disorder with multi-factorial causes such as iodine deficiency, autoimmune diseases, and genetic predispositions. However, recent studies suggest that chronic stress may play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of hypothyroidism. Stress leads to dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, altering thyroid function by increasing cortisol levels, suppressing thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and reducing T3 and T4 production. Homeopathy, with its holistic approach, aims to address the root causes of illness, including stress-induced thy

The literature review deals with the influence of chronic stress on the functioning of the endocrine system. The most significant pathological conditions induced by chronic stress are decompensation of carbohydrate metabolism, disorders of the thyroid gland, reproductive system, depressive disorders, electrolyte disorders. The significance of these pathologies is determined by a pronounced decrease in the quality of life, the occurrence of severe complications, and an increase in mortality. The development of hyperglycemia during the acute period of the disease is an established connection bet

Thyroid hormones are associated with the oxidative and antioxidative status of the organism. Depression of metabolism by hypothyroidism has been reported to decrease oxidant production and thus protect tissues against oxidant damage. The purpose of the present study was to investigate Zn and Cu levels in MMI-induced hypothyroidism and to show whether there is a connection between these trace elements and the oxidant-antioxidant status in experimental hypothyroidism. 3-Nitrotyrosine was measured as a marker of nitro-oxidative stress. Hypothyroidism is a growing medical concern. There are conflicting reports regarding the mechanism of oxidative stress in hypothyroidism. Mitochondrial oxidative stress is pivotal to thyroid dysfunction. The present study aimed to delineate the effects of hepatic inner mitochondrial membrane dysfunction as a consequence of 6-n-propyl-2-thiouracil-induced hypothyroidism in rats. Increased oxidative stress predominance in the submitochondrial particles (SMP) and altered antioxidant defenses in the mitochondrial matrix fraction correlated with hepatocyte apoptosis. Background and aims: Hypothyroidism and cardiovascular diseases are associated with oxidative stress. Vitamin C is widely recognized for its antioxidant properties. This study aimed to investigate the effects of vitamin C during the neonatal and juvenile periods on oxidative stress induced by hypothyroidism in the hearts of rats. Methods: Sixteen pregnant rats were randomly divided into five groups after delivery: a control group, a group receiving propylthiouracil (PTU), and three treatment groups receiving PTU along with 10, 100, and 500 mg/kg of vitamin C. Thyroid hormones (TH) are essential for hippocampal neuronal viability in adulthood, and their deficiency causes hypothyroidism, which is related to oxidative stress events and neuronal damage. Also, it has been hypothesized that hypothyroidism causes a glucose deprivation in the neuron. This study is aimed at evaluating the temporal participation of the endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERE) in hippocampal neurons of adult hypothyroid rats and its association with the oxidative stress events. The effect of hypothyroidism on some oxidative stress parameters is reported. Moderate hypothyroid state was induced in two groups of female rabbits (3 and 12 months old) by giving 50 mg/kg body weight (BW) of propylthiouracil (PTU) per os for 6 days and 20 mg/kg BW of methimazole (MMI) for further 14 days. Serum T4 and T3 concentrations decreased by about 38-40 and 32-36%, respectively. The induced hypothyroidism resulted in a significant decrease in the serum concentration of the lipid peroxidation end-product malondialdehyde, as measured by the thiobarbituric-acid assay. Many aspects of biological function are affected by hormones, from physiology to behavior, and the synthesis and release of hormones in vertebrates are regulated by the endocrine axes of control. A growing body of research shows that the mechanisms underlying the endocrine axes of control are complex and interconnected, with many hormones having multiple effects, and with many interactions between axes. In this study, I examined the effects of decreased thyroid function on the glucocorticoid stress response in Japanese quail, a potential interaction between the hypothalamic-pituitary thyroid (
