<p class="abstract">Neck node in sub mental area is not uncommon. It occurs mostly due to infective or malignant pathologies in oral cavity. Submental neck node mass due to thyroglossal duct cyst carcinoma is a rare presentation. A 25 year old female presented with a sub mental neck node which was noticed for 6 weeks with no history of fever or any oral lesions. On examination, there was a 1 × 1 cm non tender, firm, mobile sub mental neck node. Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess whether there was any relation between age, gender and body mass index (BMI) and nodal forms and vascular type in healthy Turkish adults. Study Design: Three neck areas in 25 wholesome patients who were aged from 21 to 58 years, were assessed by gray-scale and color doppler ultrasonography. Ultrasonographic examinations were performed using an ALOKA Prosound Alpha 6 (Hitachi Aloka Medical Systems, Tokyo, Japan) and the images were obtained with a 7.2 MHz linear array transducer. Treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the lip is primarily surgical. Unlike other oral lesions, lower lip cancers do not metastasize to lower cervical lymph nodes without invading submental and submandibular lymph nodes. This study presents 30 patients with NO lower lip carcinoma who were treated by en bloc resection of the tumor with suprahyoid neck dissection. Occult metastasis was found in 4 patients (13%). Four patients, 3 of whom had no occult metastases, died of local or regional uncontrollable disease. Suprahyoid or modified radical neck dissection appears to be beneficial, even in sm

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common malignancies of oral cavity. Metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a complex process involving detachment of cells from the tumor tissue, regulation of cell motility and invasion, proliferation and evasion through the lymphatic system or blood vessels. The metastasis may affect the prognosis. 1Since not only the suppression of primary lesion but also the presence or absence of metastasis in the cervical lymph nodes may greatly influence the outcome of oral cancer. 2, 3The submental lymph nodes are categories as

AbstractSquamous cell carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx tends to metastasize frequently to cervical lymph nodes, the location of which depends mainly on the site of the primary lesion. Five anatomical levels of cervical nodes have consequently been defined to standardize the terminology used to describe which lymph node groups are at risk for metastatic spread. Level I includes the submental and submandibular triangles. This review considers the role of these triangles in neck dissection and concludes that, unless there is clear evidence of spread, the inclusion of the level I triangles

Abstract Objective: To show the morphometric patterns of lymph nodes of the head and neck, evaluating their number, shape, dimensions, hilum, and cortex, through the use of ultrasound examination of the neck. Materials and Methods: We analyzed 400 right and left lymph nodes in a group of 20 healthy young and middle-aged individuals of both genders. Results: In the ultrasound examination, we observed the following lymph nodes: mastoid; parotid (superficial, extraglandular, and intraglandular); submandibular (preglandular, retroglandular, and intracapsular); submental; and cervical (anterior and

Physiologic surgical options, including vascularized lymph node transplant and lymphovenous bypass are becoming increasingly popular interventions for the treatment of lymphedema of both the upper and lower extremities. Many different lymph node donor sites have been described, including submental, lateral thoracic, superficial groin, supraclavicular, and various intraabdominal sites. This paper describes a step-by-step approach to the harvest of vascularized lymph nodes from the supraclavicular area, which is the preferred donor site for most patients with both upper and lower extremity lymph

Despite these advantages, flap harvest requires resection of platysma, which may cause a marginal mandibular nerve pseudo-paralysis. The aim of this study was to investigate the donor site morbidity of an innovative platysma-sparing vascularized submental lymph node flap transfer for treating extremity lymphedema. Streszczenie:
Abstract The commonest cause of a lump in the neck is lymphadenopathy (85%). A painful lymph node usually denotes an inflammatory reaction (i.e. an infective cause). Ask about general symptoms including dyspnoea, cough, hoarseness, and any systemic upset, such as malaise, cachexia, and weight loss. These symptoms may point to a primary cause of the lymphadenopathy. Examine the neck for lymphadenopathy (submental, submandibular, cervical). If present, examine for generalized lymphadenopathy (axillary, inguinal) and splenomegaly. This is because we want to know whether the lymph node is caused b
