Due to the significance of education and upbringing in the individual and social life of human, these two subjects have received a great deal of attention from Muslim thinkers. The present work looks at Murtaḍa Mutahhari's (1920--1980) thought on these subjects.<br>Ta'lim (education) and tarbiyah (upbringing) in his view are the only paths to human perfection. The humanity of insan (human), which is based on human knowledge and tendencies, makes him capable of receiving ta'lim and tarbiyah and thus of becoming a perfect human being. Mutahhari believes that Islamic ta'lim and tarbiyah are the best means of attaining such a goal.<br>In his analysis of ta'lim, Mutahhari identifies ta'aqqul (reflection) as the factor that enables the insan to distinguish reasonable from unreasonable and true from false, empowers him to see the future and not imprison himself in the present and prevents him from surrendering to the customs and traditions of the majority.<br>Tarbiyah, on the other hand, tends to develop the human faculties (as compared to the animal faculties) in such a way that all his faculties achieve their expected growth and a balanced development.<br>In Mutahhari's view the moral foundation of each school of thought shapes its respective system of tarbiyah by developing the human faculties in accordance with those foundations. Hence, since the foundation of Islamic morality is self-respect, Islamic tarbiyah can therefore be defined as a system that develops the human faculties based on self-respect. Interestingly enough, since self-respect is based on self-knowledge, and since this leads to the knowledge of God, Islamic tarbiyah can therefore be said to be based on self-knowledge and knowledge of God.

Through a comparative study of two Atlanta full-time Muslim parochial schools, this study examines Muslim approaches to Islamic education by analyzing school leaders' secular and religious goals, their main obstacles and concerns, and what they believe the best practices are. The study explores leaders’ visions of socialization and community development by juxtaposing findings from two schools. In order to answer the aforementioned questions, this study 1) assesses national trends in K-12 Islamic parochial schools across the United States through related research, 2) engages Muslim leaders from both institutions through semi-formal interviews, and 3) supplements findings through an extended period of participant observation.

This thesis contributes to the analysis of the dakwah (Islamic preaching and mission) of contemporary Islamist movements with a case study of the Indonesian Tarbiyah movement. My analysis borrows from aspects of social movement theory and conceptions of lived religion to illuminate both the official discourses and everyday experiences of the movement in a novel way. I begin by providing an historical framework for understanding dakwah and Islamist movements in modernity (Chapter 1) and by locating Islam(ism) and dakwah in terms of the changing social, political and religious dynamics of colonial and postcolonial Indonesia (Chapter 2). To investigate the Tarbiyah movement, I collected qualitative interviews and fieldwork data in Jakarta during 2012–13 (Chapter 3). In the key chapters of this thesis, I focus on three main arguments: i) that the gradual transition of the Tarbiyah movement from a politically repressed network of religious purists in the 1970-80s into a fully-fledged dakwah political party (the Prosperous Justice Party/Partai Keadilan Sejahtera, PKS) was the outcome of new ‘political opportunities’ which emerged during a period of democratisation 1990-97 (Chapter 4); ii) that the movement’s weekly Liqo (circle of religious teaching) illuminates both the synergies and tensions between official, top-down framing by increasingly formal, outward-looking and pragmatic PKS leaders and the more informal and more conservative networks, the latter remaining a key resource for mobilisation (Chapter 5); and, finally, that the lived experiences of female trainees in the Liqo suggest that this is a space where Tarbiyah movement/PKS norms, lifestyles and dispositions are more or less successfully taught, learned and reproduced principally through the disciplined and repeated performances of embodied piety (Chapter 6).

Preparing quality teachers is a continuing issue and concern in discussions about the future of schools in many countries. This study described and compared the stated goals and perceived outcomes of teacher preparation programs at the College of Basic Education (CBE) in Kuwait. This information will assist educational decision makers in Kuwait to align teacher preparation at the CBE and decide what is needed to make the programs more effective. The study assessed the perceptions of knowledge, skills, and attitudes of student teachers, new teachers, and instructors toward the existing program at the CBE in Kuwait. The discussion of teacher preparation in Kuwait was used to set a cultural and historical context. The literature reviewed recommendations from the United States to develop a framework of five common standards for analyzing the teacher preparation curriculum: content knowledge, instruction, diversity, professional development, and field work. In addition, research and evaluation of teacher education programs were reviewed for perceptions of student teachers and new teachers about their preparation and for methodology. Document analysis techniques were used with current documents from four major teacher preparation programs in the CBE. Five standards from U.S. recommendations were also found in the CBE curriculum. However, the analysis suggested that the curriculum in Kuwait might increase attention to professional attitudes and use of new technologies to prepare teachers. A three-part questionnaire was developed based upon the questionnaires of Van Zandt, Smith, and Zelazek et al. The questionnaire was translated into the Arabic language, and 280 responses to the survey instrument were analyzed. Perceptions of pre-service teachers, new teachers, and instructors toward the existing curriculum at the CBE in Kuwait were positive (3.3 and higher on 5-point scale) toward preparation of teachers’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes. However, a significant contrast was found between groups in perceptions of knowledge and skills. Pre-service teachers were more positive than first-year teachers or college instructors in their perceptions. No significant differences were found in attitudes. Recommendations included a suggestion to the faculty at CBE for continuing the model of curriculum analysis from this study to evaluate and address possible improvements in the teacher preparation program, such as use of technology and more attention to professional attitudes. Replication of the study was also suggested for other colleges of education in the Middle East.

Les retenues des barrages dans les fleuves sont dans tous les cas soumises à un comblement plus ou moins rapide provoqué par le dépôt des sédiments charriés et transportés en suspension par les fleuves. Ce dépôt s'explique par les conditions hydrodynamiques de calme créees par le barrage dans la retenue d'eau. La connaissance du régime hydraulique et du transport sédimentaire d'un fleuve, sont deux facteurs de première importance dans la conception de barrages et dans la mise en place d'un plan de gestion visant à maintenir la capacité de la retenue par l'évacuation des sédiments vers l'aval. Le but de cette thèse est l'étude de l'hydrodynamique de l'Indus qui est l'un des plus grands fleuves du monde, affecté par de très fortes variations saisonnières de débit. Au cours de cette étude, on a mis en place un modèle hydraulique numérique unidirectionnel du réservoir tenant compte des principaux affluents et de l'érosion du bassin versant. Les comparaisons avec les données disponibles de transport solide ont permis l'ajustement des modèles. Par la suite, on a étudié les différentes solutions viables pour l'évacuation des sédiments vers l'aval<br>Dam reservoirs in the rivers, in all the cases, are subjected to more or less rapid filling caused by the deposition of sediments carried as bedload or transported in suspension by the rivers. This deposit can be explained by the calm hydrodynamic conditions created by the dam in the reservoir. Knowledge of hydraulic regime and sediment transport of a river, are two prime factors in the design of dams and the establishment of a management plan to maintain the capacity of the reservoir by the removal of sediment downstream. The aim of this thesis is to study the hydrodynamics of the Indus which is one of the largest rivers of the world affected by strong seasonal variations in flow. In this study, we developed a one dimensional hydraulic model of the reservoir taking in account the main tributaries and erosion of the watershed. Comparisons with available data of sediment transported allowed us the adjustment of the model. Subsequently, we studied the different viable solutions for evacuation of sediment downstream

Il est par conséquent essentiel pour la gestion des ressources en eau d'appréhender la dynamique de la cryosphère (neige et glace), ainsi que les régimes hydrologiques de cette région dans le contexte de scénarios de changement climatique. La base de données satellitaire du produit de couverture neigeuse MODIS MOD10A2 a été utilisée de mars 2000 à décembre 2009 pour analyser la dynamique du couvert neigeux de l'UIB. Les données journalières de débits à 13 stations hydrométriques et de précipitation et température à 18 postes météorologiques ont été exploitées sur des périodes variables selon les stations pour étudier le régime hydro-climatique de la région. Les analyses satellitaires de la couverture neigeuse et glaciaire suggèrent une très légère extension de la cryosphère au cours de la dernière décade (2000‒2009) en contradiction avec la rapide fonte des glaciers observée dans la plupart des régions du monde. Le modèle « Snowmelt Runoff » (SRM), associé aux produits neige du capteur MODIS a été utilisé avec succès pour simuler les débits journaliers et étudier les impacts du changement climatique sur ces débits dans les sous-bassins à contribution nivo-glaciaire de l'UIB. L'application de SRM pour différents scénarios futurs de changement climatique indique un doublement des débits pour le milieu du siècle actuel. La variation des écoulement de l'UIB, la capacité décroissante des réservoirs existants (barrage de Tarbela) à cause de la sédimentation, ainsi que la demande croissante pour les différents usages de l'eau, laissent penser que de nouveaux réservoirs sont à envisager pour stocker les écoulements d'été et répondre aux nécessités de l'irrigation, de la production hydro-électrique, de la prévention des crues et de l'alimentation en eau domestique<br>Agriculture based economy of Pakistan is highly dependent on the snow and glacier melt water supplies from the Upper Indus River Basin (UIB), situated in the Himalaya, Karakoram and Hindukush ranges. It is therefore essential to understand the cryosphere (snow and ice) dynamics and hydrological regime of this area under changed climate scenarios, for water resource management. The MODIS MOD10A2 remote-sensing database of snow cover products from March 2000 to December 2009 was selected to analyse the snow cover dynamics in the UIB. A database of daily flows from 13 hydrometric stations and climate data (precipitation and temperature) from 18 gauging stations, over different time periods for different stations, was made available to investigate the hydro-climatological regime in the area. Analysis of remotely sensed cryosphere (snow and ice cover) data during the last decade (2000‒2009) suggest a rather slight expansion of cryosphere in the area in contrast to most of the regions in the world where glaciers are melting rapidly. The Snowmelt Runoff Model (SRM) integrated with MODIS remote-sensing snow cover products was successfully used to simulate the daily discharges and to study the climate change impact on these discharges in the snow and glacier fed sub-catchments of UIB. The application of the SRM under future climate change scenarios indicates a doubling of summer runoff until the middle of this century. This variation in the Upper Indus River flow, decreasing capacity of existing reservoirs (Tarbela Dam) by sedimentation and the increasing demand of water uses suggests that new reservoirs shall be planned for summer flow storage to meet with the needs of irrigation supply, increasing power generation demand, flood control and water supply

Manualen skrevs i 3 st huvuddelar Kategori A, B och C. Kategori A är till för att manskap ombord ska få en kännedom om gasen och säkerhet runt den, Kategori B är skriven till däcksbefäl där det krävs en större kännedom om gasen och Kategori C är till för maskinbefäl. Manualen finns nu ombord på fartyget och på rederi kontoret för utbildning av nypåmönstrad personal och fortlöpande utbildning av ordinarie personal. Manualen är ett resultat på tolkning av IMO´s IGF kod (ANNEX11. E-learning exposes students and instructors to different learning models such as constructivism rather than the traditional learning. E-learning as a part of today's technology has proven that it is appropriate for most students' mentalities and is a mind tool which promotes different learning models, such as problem solving strategy, collaborative learning, and critical thinking. The Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) in Kuwait consists of more than 10 academic colleges with a total number of 120 faculty members. The College of Basic Education (CBE) is one of them. The implementation of e-learning at the College of Basic Education requires that all the learning community members, instructors and students, understand that an e-learning course is like a learning community with the privilege of sharing knowledge, opinions, experiences related to class subject, and productive outcomes that are beneficial to this learning community. This study indentified the statistically significant differences in demographic characteristics of e-learning adopters and non-adopters among faculty members at CBE, examining faculty members' attitudes and skills toward e-learning readiness. The study will explore perceived barriers that face e-learning at CBE. Applying the Rogers diffusion of innovation theory, the influence of 4 factors was examined regarding faculty readiness for e-learning at CBE. Chi-square techniques, t-tests, and factor analysis were conducted to analyze the data and answer research questions. Statistically significant differences were identified among e-learning adopters and non-adopters regarding age difference and department discipline, both technical and non-technical.

AbstractThis chapter explores the interface between Islam, social work and the common good within the Muslim minority context of Europe. The ethics-law nexus in Muslim tradition is examined to argue for a transformative Islamic engagement with the secular public space. Literature on Islam and social work is limited to providing basic information about Islam to frontline practitioners. The current inquiry intends to develop an Islamic perspective on social work and wellbeing. Increasing association of Muslims with extremism form negative public perceptions of Islam in Europe. Within this discourse of suspicion, Islam is coded as a cause of public harm and ‘Shariʿa law’ is often associated with human rights violations. This study argues that a critical dialogue among the faith-embedded and secular traditions of social ethics in Europe remains vital to fostering a shared sense of common good. Contemporary discussions on social ethics in Islam are dominated by maqāṣid ash-sharī ʿa (objectives of Islamic law) and fiqh al-ʿaqalliyyāt (Muslim minority law). Whilst the former is purported to be a metaethical discourse and the latter implying a contextualising intent, both operate within strict juristic hermeneutics. Alternatively, this inquiry rethinks Shariʿa as relational ethics and practical wisdom (ḥikma), closer to the concept of phronesis in ancient Greek philosophy, guiding human relations as imagined in Qurʾanic anthropology and its vision of a just society. Shariʿa is framed within Islam’s transformative view of human flourishing, tarbiyya. The notion of relational ethics is further grounded in dialogue with phenomenology-informed discussions on ethics, particularly in the work of Levinas, and Habermas’s ‘theory of communicative action’.

It also clarifies that tarbiya or spiritual training is a process devised by Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse to intensify and accelerate the experience attainable in wird. The chapter explores the subject matter of the polemical poem, which is mainly an admonishment against the performance of Tijanı litanies and a call to abandon that path. It highlights Afa Ajura's call to Muslims to maintain the path of Prophet Mohammed and his companions.

The sediments inflow in the Tarbela reservoir is resulting in reduction in water storage capacity and damage to the tunnels carrying water to the power generating units and ultimately to the plant equipment. The turbulent flow in tunnel-2 of the Tarbela Dam Project (TDP) is analyzed for the sediment particles tracking in ANSYS CFX.
