Adults, immatures and eggs of Temnocephala decarloi Moretto and T. lanei Pereira & Cuocolo associated with Naucoridae, Nepidae and Belostomatidae species were recorded. The presence of Temnocephala associated with Heteroptera species is first reported for Brazil. It is suggestive that this association is relevant for Temnocephalidae dispersion and population maintenance owing to the morphology and behaviour of these insects and the oligotrophic state of the sampled localities.

Based on published records and original data derived from our research, we have generated a checklist of symbiotic temnocephalan fauna from 57 taxa of freshwater invertebrate and vertebrate hosts from 16 families included in four classes from the Neotropics. The checklist contains 38 nominal species from 3 genera belonging to the Temnocephalida families Diceratocephalidae, Didymorchidae and Temnocephalidae. All taxa (35) of the genus Temnocephala are endemic to the Neotropics and 14 (40%) are considered microendemic (i.e. only one record each from a single locality). While only one species and

The epidermis of Diceratocephala boschmai Baer, 1952 (Temnocephalida : Platyhelminthes) was studied using silver-nitrate staining and electron microscopy. The epidermis consists of six syncytia separated by lateral membranes: the frontal, trunk, stalk, adhesive disc syncytia, and a pair of post-tentacular syncytia. Neighbouring syncytia differ in many characters including (1) the presence or absence of locomotory cilia, (2) the degree of the differentiation of the apical cytoplasm layer, (3) the presence or absence of bundles of cytoskeletal filaments, imaginations of basal membrane and other

Temnocephala iheringi Haswell, 1893 was recorded in Marisa planogyra Pilsbry, 1933 and Pomacea maculata Perry, 1810. Also, Temnocephala amatoi sp. nov. was described from Pomacea scalaris (d’Orbigny, 1835). The mollusks were collected from temporary ponds at Ypiranga Farm, Poconé, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species differs from six other species of Temnocephala Blanchard, 1849 epibionts on molluks by having the following combination of characters: 1. a short and curved cirrus; 2. a narrow introvert with approximately 22 longitudinal rows of spines with 13 spines each; 3. internal spines with

This contribution presents the first record of ornamental shrimp epibiont, Scutariella japonica (Platyhelminthes: Temnocephalida) in European waters. The species lives on freshwater Atyidae shrimp from temperate, subtropical and tropical zones of South-East Asia. In total, 120 individuals of Neocaridina davidi shrimp were caught in thermally polluted canal of Oder river, near the city of Gryfino, in the northwest part of Poland. In that group, 5.83% were infected with scutariellids. Among shrimp, females were mostly infected (85.71%). Since ornamental shrimp released into thermally polluted wa
