Groundwater quality in study areas was evaluated by measuring the physicochemical parametersincluding selected ions in water samples collected from 12 boreholes in Akaeze, Okposi and Uburu townsof Ebonyi State, Nigeria in April, 2013 and analysed using standard methods. Results obtained showedthat, except for As5+ content, all other parameters investigated fall within WHO standards for potable water.Regression analysis showed that conductivity, SO4 2- and As5+ levels are important variables in predictingthe TDS values of the samples while NO3-, Cl-, PO4 3- and TDS are important in predicting t

Mining activities frequently introduce hazardous compounds, including heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), into soil and water systems, resulting in significant environmental contamination. This study assessed the levels of heavy metals and PAHs in soil and water samples collected from five mining sites in Ebonyi State: Okposi, Amasiri, Akpuoha, Isiagu, and Uburu while Afikpo served as a control site due to little or no mining activities. Using standard analytical techniques, the concentrations of heavy metals were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, the

Purpose The corrosivity and competence of soils within Uburu and Okposi areas of the Southern Benue Trough, Nigeria, were evaluated using the electrical resistivity method. This paper aims to provide information that will aid pre-design of subsurface iron/steel pipe networks for distribution of pipe-borne water and construction of subsurface structures for agricultural and environmental purposes. Design/methodology/approach In total, 22 vertical electrical soundings (VES) in the Schlumberger configuration were acquired with Allied Ohmega™ Terrameter with a maximum half current (AB/2) electrode

Purpose: Access to clean and potable water supply is the priority of many nations including the government of Nigeria towards socio-economic emancipation of the people. Due to increasing population expansion and water pollution, shortage of freshwater has become very common to many nations, particularly to the developing countries. To overcome the growing freshwater shortage, desalination has been proven to be the best alternative option towards freshwater provision for domestic and industrial applications. Desalination could be either thermal or electric methods which include multi-stage flas
