The accommodations loop shows that time, often thought of as a desirable commodity, can also be used to harm disabled people in the name of inclusion. AbstractFinding reliable and safe accommodation is a key obstacle to students’ international mobility. While the European Commission plans a tri-fold increase of Erasmus+ participants by 2027, allowing international students to get suitable accommodation remains one of the main difficulties encountered during the mobility experience. European Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are unable to cover the majority of student accommodation demand. Indeed, as stated by Eurostudent VII Report, only 17% of students in Europe find home abroad in student accommodation facilities. Moreover, in accordance with the Erasmus+ Impact Study 2019, 23% of the students involved in the survey considered very important to have support in finding accommodation abroad during mobility along with insurance and other practical aspects. This contribution explores the first results of the European project HOME (Home of Mobile Europeans). The project, currently ongoing, is funded by the 2019 Key Action 2 Erasmus+ call and developed by six European partners. According to the digital transition planned by the Erasmus+ Programme, HOME supports EU mobility by providing students and trainees with a digitalized infrastructure that integrates the search for accommodation within existing European digital mobility initiatives, such as the Erasmus+ App. Moreover the project defines a set of living “quality labels” to increase the transparency of information about accommodation offer at the European level. Furthermore, educational resources and a training toolkit will be available, in the HOME website, to spread and replicate the project’s learnings results. Once operational, HOME will represent an essential digital solution for a more accessible and quality student accommodation offer.

Abstract Despite the significant amount of literature on tourists' pro-environmental behaviour (PEB), there is no study to systematically investigate the PEB of Airbnb guests. Understanding Airbnb guests' PEB is important to improve the host communities' resilience and mitigate the negative impacts associated with Airbnb growth. This chapter examines the determinants to Airbnb guests' PEB focusing on guests' knowledge of and concern about the environment. A binary logit model was applied using the survey data collected from Norwegian university students. The results support the hypothesis that Airbnb guests' environmental knowledge and concern are important in influencing their PEB. The study further tested if Airbnb guests behave differently when they are in or close to their home and when they travel. The findings show that respondents' behaviour does not seem to differ significantly. The study results enhance understanding of the Airbnb's impact on host communities and highlight the need to design PEB strategies specifically targeting Airbnb guests for successful destination governance and improved community resilience.

A partnership between the Iberostar Foundation and the University of the Balearic Islands through the Chair of the Sea, Coastal Health Monitoring Scheme has a dual purpose: training students in marine biodiversity monitoring and collecting critical coastal ecosystem data. Launched in 2021 on Ibiza with 12 stations, it now boasts 50 stations: 20 in Mallorca, 15 in Menorca, 10 in Ibiza, and 5 in Formentera. Undergraduate Biology students from the University of the Balearic Islands conduct this project. Each station undergoes comprehensive surveys in spring and summer, including three 60 m2 transects to quantify species density, focusing on sea urchins, sponges, sea cucumbers, and anemones. Population structure analysis is performed by measuring diameters of sea urchins and anemones. Variable-length transects assess benthic species like sea snails and limpets, while others study crab species diversity and Blennoidea fish abundance. Data collected forms a comprehensive biodiversity inventory, enhanced by submerged sand samples to measure organic content and granulometric composition. The CHMS's success is supported by the Iberostar Fdn., Baleària Fdn., local councils, and Island Councils, aiding in transportation, accommodation, and mobility. This collaborative approach enriches marine biology education and contributes valuable insights into coastal ecosystems.

AbstractIt is wrongly assumed that the environmental sustainability of the building organism is only achievable thanks to the contribution of the systems and their ability to reduce harmful emissions and generate energy from alternative and natural sources. So, system projects have assumed an increasingly considerable importance both in terms of the quantity of documents and the cost of the building. The quantity and complexity of the most recent plant engineering solutions amplify the difficulty of dialogue between the different design levels (architectural, structural, and system design) forcing the professionals involved to compromise that end up disregarding the expected quality. Although it is now clear that the design levels must progress hand in hand from the first hypotheses, and that all must contribute equally to the overall sustainability of the intervention, this does not always happen by preferring to derogate from the system designers the choice of environmentally sustainable solutions. In summary, more and more, often we rely on the technical solutions of the machines used, rather than on the technological qualities of the project. This inevitably involves problems in the construction, operation, and eventual decommissioning phase of the building, especially in the public sphere where the low economic resources of the contracting stations are increasingly used in the purchase, maintenance, management, and disposal of plant engineering tools. A well-structured regulatory system can help to minimize these criticalities: this is the case of law 338, enacted in 2000 with the aim of increasing the availability of residences for university students, which is distinguished for the attention to the environmental issue, orienting the realization of accommodation places towards solutions able to contain waste, soil consumption, etc. The paper aims to describe and analyse the attention paid by the specific legislation to environmental sustainability.

Abstract An increasing number of students are participating in international credit mobility and other short-term programs, and as a result, there is a growing demand for services to enhance their mobility experience. Yet with some exceptions (e.g., Almeida (2020)), there is a lack of literature exploring the services and support infrastructure demanded by credit-mobile students. Consequently, this research fills a critical gap by presenting the results of the first institutional survey as part of a European project, “Erasmus Careers”, examining inbound and outbound mobility services and support that institutions provide at the different stages of the international student lifecycle for credit-mobile students in a European context. The survey reached out to 80 institutions across Europe, yielding a robust response rate of 70%. The survey encompassed 25 questions, categorised into four sections: institutional particulars, services and support mechanisms, academic facilities, and teaching methodologies. Results show the broad spectrum of services and support that institutions extend to international credit-mobile students. Predominantly, the services offered relate to accommodation, language courses, and cultural engagement activities. Moreover, the survey indicates that institutions provide support at various stages of the experience of these international students, including pre-departure, arrival, and during their stay. Additionally, the survey reveals that both local and international students generally enjoy equal access and opportunities in most institutions when accessing university facilities or support services. However, the survey also highlights areas where institutions can enhance their services and support for credit-mobile students. Notably, there is room for improvement in providing support during the students’ stay, including academic support, as well as mental and physical health services. These research findings can serve as a guide for institutions seeking to improve their support structures for credit-mobile students and as a basis for policymakers to formulate policies that bolster student mobility across Europe.
