OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most malignant brain tumor in adults and remains incurable with an average survival of 15 months after diagnosis. There is great need for treatment options without side effects that are devastating to the quality of life for patients. GBM tumors can circumvent cellular damage by upregulating antioxidant production. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Highly aggressive tumors tend to exhibit increased oxidative metabolism, and thus rely on a mechanism to eliminate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in order for cells to evade autophagy and cell death. Streszczenie:
The survival rate for very low birth weight (VLBW) infants has risen dramatically over recent years. With increased viability has come increased attention to the role of specific nutrients as causative factors for complex multifactorial syndromes such as cerebral palsy. In certain cases, the role of specific nutrients in brain development has been established. Taurine, for example, is an essential nutrient necessary for normal visual development in VLBW infants (1,2). Based on this knowledge, nutritional practices have been modified to assure an adequate taurine intake for formula-fed infants

Streszczenie:
We have previously shown that donation of blood into anticoagulants containing half the normal amount of citrate results in a dramatic improvement in the stability of coagulation factor VIII and has no adverse effect on the in vitro qualities of red cells or platelets during storage. To confirm the viability of stored cellular components we are now performing autologous survival studies in healthy volunteers using radiolabelled cells from red cells and platelets stored for 35 and 5 days respectively. Results to date indicate a 24 hour survival of 80% for red cells stored at a haematocrit of 0.

In this research, it was focused on the anti-proliferation of cancer cells and the anti-agglutination of human blood cell infected by H1 N1 virus (AHB) of honey and AHB of propolis from Tetragonula laeviceps. Honey (90 g) was extracted by 96% EtOH and H20 resulting in CHE and CHW, respectively, Later, it was tested against the proliferation of 5 cancer cell lines (BT474, Chago, Hep-G2, KATO-III, and SW620) and CH-liver as normal cell by MTT assay. The data was estimated from the average of percentage of cell viability (PS) and statistically analysed by SPSS statistics 17.0. The result showed t

Growth rate of cultured fish from hatching to commercial size is a major factor in the success of aquaculture. The normal stimulus for muscle growth in growing fish is not well understood and understanding the regulation of muscle growth in fish is of particular importance for aquaculture. Fish meat constitutes mostly of skeletal muscles and provides high value proteins in most people's diet. Unlike mammals, fish continue to grow throughout their lives, although the size fish attain, as adults, is species specific. Evidence indicates that muscle growth is regulated positively and negatively by
