Background: Peritonitis as a result of hollow viscus perforation is a common condition in developing countries like Nepal where post-operative period is unpredictable even if patient reaches hospital in time and being operated. Physiological and operative severity score for the enumeration of mortality and morbidity (POSSUM) helps to identify patients at increased risk of developing deaths and complications. It is based on 12 physiological and 6 operative parameters. Methods: A total of 50 patients of hollow viscus perforation admitted and operated at National Medical College and Teaching Hosp

Immediate source control properties, reproducibility, simplicity and applicability was the prefer method in emergency setting to repair this perforation. Case: We present one case of female, 46 years old patient with duodenal part 1 perforation with Boey Score 1, where we performed repair with primary suturing, gastrojejunal – braun anastomosis and omental patch. We found part 1 duodenal perforation 1.5cm in diameter. Patient was in hospital for 5 days before being discharged. Conc

The most common cause of a pneumoperitoneum is a perforation of a hollow viscus and the treatment is an exploratory laparotomy; nevertheless, not all pneumoperitoneums are due to a perforation and not all of them need surgical intervention. We hereby present a case of pneumoperitoneum due to a diaphragmatic defect, which allowed air from a pneumothorax to escape through the diaphragmatic hernia into the abdominal cavity.

AbstractGerm cell tumors presenting with an acute abdomen are not common. We present a case of seminoma with ileum perforation, which presented in a 48-year-old man. who had been admitted to hospital with a right lower abdominal palpable mass measuring approximately 16 cm. Before an exploratory laparotomy was performed, acute abdomen with signs of hollow viscus perforation had occurred. An ileum perforation was detected and a right hemicolectomy and ileal resection were performed. The pathological examination showed a classic seminoma of undescended testis. The leak of gastrointestinal contents into the abdomen increases morbidity and if not promptly recognized can lead to mortality from sepsis.
