Cupressus cashmeriana is an ornamental evergreen conifer with little published information on vegetative propagation. Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of cutting type and auxin concentration and form on adventitious rooting. Experiment 1 evaluated three cutting treatments (softwood, hardwood, and mallet) and four auxin treatments consisting of 0, 2500, 5000, and 10000 ppm potassium salt of indole-3-butyric acid (K-IBA). Experiment 2 evaluated the same cutting types as experiment 1 and auxin treatments consisted of 5000 ppm K-IBA, 5000 ppm naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), 2

Monumental trees are a unique component of biodiversity that should be protected, managed, and valued just like stone monuments, historic centers, and grand architectural structures. In this paper we documented the presence of three old trees of Cupressus cashmeriana and one tree of Populus nigra, whose morphological and dendrometric parameters meets the criteria established to attribute the character of monumentality. Considering also their ecological and cultural importance, we propose the inclusion of these monumental trees in the regional and national lists.

Seed and Seedling morphology of two species of Cupressaceae – Cupressus cashmeriana Royle ex Carriéreand Cryptomeria japonica (Thunb. Ex L.f.) D. Don have been studied using light microscope (LM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Both the species are categorized as Near Threatened (NT) in IUCN Red List Category (2013). For characterization of seed, different parameters like shape, size, base, apex, surface were considered. For the study of seedlings, the parameters like germination pattern, root, hypocotyl, number of paracotyledons, number and nature of first leaf and subsequent leaves h

The chemical composition and in vitro anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the essential oils isolated from the leaf and twig of Cupressus cashmeriana have been investigated. The essential oils were isolated using hydrodistillation in a Clevenger-type apparatus, and characterized by GC–FID and GC–MS, respectively. The leaf oil mainly consisted of α-pinene (21.8%), epizonarene (8.0%), sabinene (7.9%), limonene (7.6%), γ-terpinene (7.0%), and allo-aromadendrene (7.0%); the twig oil was mostly carvacrol methyl ether (35.4%), manool (16.1%), carvacrol (14.2%), and (2 Z,6
