However, the occurrence of floor eggs (FE), which are eggs laid outside designated nest boxes, presents a major challenge for these producers. The data were collected from 2005 to 2007. Thirty-two farmers from four municipalities were randomly selected. Each household received a once-off unit consisting of a cage with eighteen point of lay chickens 4x50 bags of laying mesh, feeding and drinking troughs. Production records from sampled farmers were used in the analysis.

Reproductive traits, age of female broodfish and aspects of parental behaviour influencing the production and quality of fry in the mouthbrooding tilapia species Oreochromis niloticus and O. mossambicus were investigated. A comparative study of the performance of laying hens housed in cages and floor pens was conducted under filed condition at C.U. Veterinary Research Center. A total of 480 birds were divided iinto 2 groups, each group consisting of 4 replicates, 60 birds each. The results were recorded throught 52 weeks of egg production. There were no significant (P &gt; 0.05) differences for the rate of egg production, efficiency if feed utilization, body weight gain and mortality rate. But the egg weight was significantly (p &lt; 0.05) greater in group of birds housed in cages than those housed in floor pen
