This essay examines the translation of Chinese and Japanese science fiction literature in Italian specialized collections between the 1980s and the 2000s, critically assessing cultural agencies involved, and the role of Anglo-American translations as vehicular initiatives. Science fiction as a genre with a strong identity - with an easily recognizable and cross-mediatic repertoire of themes and tropes - is a unique vantage point from which to observe the shape and functioning of a trans-national literary production, or, in other words, of a literature which presents global characteristics shar

Translation is considered to be almost on the same level as artistic creation in terms of its complexity and difficulty. The reason is that the work, which is the fruit of the author's talent and skill, needs to be recreated in accordance with the original using other language tools. Knowing the language is not enough for the translation of works of art. For this, it is required to be aware of creative talent and art science. This article presents a study on the synchronic distributions of interpersonal metaphors of modulation based on the British National Corpus (BNC). The synchronic research reveals that interpersonal metaphors of modulation are mode-sensitive to written texts. Regarding genre distribution, metaphorical obligations driven by the explicit orientation dominate fiction texts. In contrast, the objective orientation drives obligations to be more prevalent in academic texts or more technical genres. The objective orientation of metaphorical inclinations is notably prevalent in newspapers and magazines

Bosman was a gifted writer and raconteur who captured the historical, socio-political context of his time by translating Afrikaans culture for the edification and pleasure of an English readership. Hennie Aucamp summed up this linguistic and cultural translation by pointing out that Bosman was a writer who acted as a “verbindingsteken” or hyphen (65) between Afrikaans and English. Quantile regression analysis suggests that boarding facilities were vital for preventing disadvantaged students from falling farther behind during school closures.
