AbstractThe linkage between sea surface temperature (SST) and evaporation (EVP) plays an important role in air–sea interactions. In this study, the interaction mechanism of SST and EVP during boreal autumn was studied using correlation analysis, composite analysis, the EVP decomposition method, and singular value decomposition. The results showed that the correlation between SST and EVP in the Indian Ocean was reversed from positive to negative in the late 1990s. The significant positive SST–EVP relationship was attributed to the Indian Ocean basin mode forcing upon EVP during 1980–90. The decrease in wind speed–induced EVP and SST warming led to a significant negative SST–EVP relationship during 2005–15. Moreover, the negative SST–EVP correlation occurred when the Indian Ocean dipole (IOD) and subtropical Indian Ocean dipole (SIOD) exhibited inverse phases. The low-level moisture–EVP–SST feedback dominated the negative SST–EVP correlation in the negative IOD and positive SIOD (nIOD–pSIOD) pattern, whereas the wind–EVP–SST feedback played the leading role in the positive IOD and negative SIOD (pIOD–nSIOD) pattern. The EVP anomalies induced by the low-level anomalous anticyclone and cyclone were the main causes of the SST anomalies with inverse phases of the IOD and SIOD. The correlation between the SST and EVP reversal from positive to negative implies that the effect of the atmosphere on the ocean is as important as the external forcing of the ocean on the atmosphere.

In a competitive global market, organizations are striving to retain the best talent by providing sustainable employer value proposition (EVP); ‘value proposition' employees perceive or expect from their employer. Although EVP is conceptually appealing, there has been little systematic effort to empirically examine the dimensions of EVP. Information technology companies are adopting strategies to provide proposition that attract and retain employees. This paper identifies the attributes of EVP from the perspective of employees working in Information Technology companies in India. A scale is developed and validated to measure EVP on a sample size of 474. EVP scale was tested for its factor structure, reliability and validity. The results indicated that EVP scale comprised of five attributes; developmental value, inspirational value, work environment value, work value, and work life balance. The finding of the research is discussed; limitations noted; recommendations for enhancing EVP in IT companies, and future research directions.

Thyroid associated orbitopathy (TAO) occurs in patients with various diseases of the thyroid gland. The levels of episcleral venous pressure (EVP), intraocular pressure and intraorbital pressure are inter- related. There are no precise data on the change of EVP in patients with TAO. Purpose. To evaluate EVP in patients with compensated and sub-compensated TAO forms. Methods. Data of 41 eyes of 22 patients were enrolled into the study. The main index to be evaluated was the EVP. Results. EVP level was significantly higher in complete venous compression in the lower- temporal quadrant in patients with sub-compensated TAO stage (p = 0.013). Conclusion. The degree of venous outflow obstruction and the EVP level of are interrelated. Thus, the level of EVP can be used as an additional factor in assessing the severity of the disease course and the treatment efficacy.

Abstract Global estimates of oceanic evaporation (Evp) from 1958 to 2005 have been recently developed by the Objectively Analyzed Air–Sea Fluxes (OAFlux) project at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). The nearly 50-yr time series shows that the decadal change of the global oceanic evaporation (Evp) is marked by a distinct transition from a downward trend to an upward trend around 1977–78. Since the transition, the global oceanic Evp has been up about 11 cm yr−1 (∼10%), from a low at 103 cm yr−1 in 1977 to a peak at 114 cm yr−1 in 2003. The increase in Evp was most dramatic during the 1990s. The uncertainty of the estimates is about ±2.74 cm yr−1. By utilizing the newly developed datasets of Evp and related air–sea variables, the study investigated the cause of the decadal change in oceanic Evp. The decadal differences between the 1990s and the 1970s indicates that the increase of Evp in the 1990s occurred over a global scale and had spatially coherent structures. Larger Evp is most pronounced in two key regions—one is the paths of the global western boundary currents and their extensions, and the other is the tropical Indo-Pacific warm water pools. It is also found that Evp was enlarged primarily during the hemispheric wintertime (defined as the mean of December–February for the northern oceans and June–August for the southern oceans). Despite the dominant upward tendency over the global basins, a slight reduction in Evp appeared in such regions as the subtropical centers of the Evp maxima as well as the eastern equatorial Pacific and Atlantic cold tongues. An empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis was performed for the yearly winter-mean time series of Evp and the related air–sea variables [i.e., wind speed (U) and air–sea humidity differences (dq)]. The analysis suggested a dominant role of the wind forcing in the decadal change of both Evp and dq. It is hypothesized that wind impacts Evp in two ways. The first way is direct: the greater wind speed induces more evaporation by carrying water vapor away from the evaporating surface to allow the air–sea humidity gradients to be reestablished at a faster pace. The second way is indirect: the enhanced surface wind strengthens the wind-driven subtropical gyre, which in turn drives a greater heat transport by the western boundary currents, warms up SST along the paths of the currents and extensions, and causes more evaporation by enlarging the air–sea humidity gradients. The EOF analysis performed for the time series of the global annual-mean Evp fields showed that the first three EOF modes account for nearly 50% of the total variance. The mode 1 variability represents the upward trend in Evp after 1978 and is attributable to the increased U, and the mode 2 variability explains much of the downward trend in Evp before 1978 and is correlated to the global dq variability. The EOF mode 3 of Evp captures the interannual variability of Evp on time scales of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation, with the center of action over the eastern equatorial Pacific.

The purpose of this article is to obtain a better understanding of the extended variational principle (EVP). The EVP is a formula for the thermodynamic pressure of a statistical mechanical system as a limit of a sequence of minimization problems. It was developed for disordered mean-field spin systems, spin systems where the underlying Hamiltonian is itself random, and whose distribution is permutation invariant. We present the EVP in the simpler setting of classical mean-field spin systems, where the Hamiltonian is non-random and symmetric. The EVP essentially solves these models. We compare the EVP with another method for mean-field spin systems: the self-consistent mean-field equations. The two approaches lead to dual convex optimization problems. This is a new connection, and it permits a generalization of the EVP.

The growing demand for ESP courses, due not only to the use of English as a lingua franca in a globalized professional world but also to the relatively recent requirements of “internationalized” university degrees, has made the teaching of English for Special Purposes, with the areas and the language teaching approaches (EOP, EAP, EVP) it has come to include, increasingly reliant on the use of specialized EFL textbooks. However, the ESP books available in the market still might not cover all the non-linguistic specialized university disciplines, or they might be too costly and time-consuming for short, elective, and pass/fail EFL courses worth few ECTS credits.This paper will report on the author’s experience of teaching a University Business Communication course without the use of textbooks, and with significant resort to online free educational resources and “non-desktop” technologies, materials and tools, which have also been exploited to involve students in the preparation of flipped lessons and the creation of their own educational material. The course-specific features and students’ outcomes, especially in terms of competence and skill development, will be described with a brief analysis of the pros and cons of transforming a formal educational setting in an informal language learning experience.

The Nerang Broadbeach Roadway (NBR) embankment in Australia is founded on soft clay deposits. The embankment sections were preloaded and surcharged-preloaded to limit the post-construction deformation and to avoid stability failure. In this paper, we discuss the NBR embankment’s geology, geotechnical properties of the subsurface, and long-term field monitoring data from settlement plates and piezometers. We demonstrate a comparison of cone penetration test (CPT) and piezo cone dissipation test (CPT-u) interpreted geotechnical properties and the NBR embankment’s foundation stratification with laboratory and field measured data. We also developed two elasto-viscoplastic (EVP) models for long-term performance prediction of the NBR embankment. In this regard, we considered both the associated and the non-associated flow rule in the EVP model formulation to assess the flow rule effect of soft clay. We also compared EVP model predictions with the Modified Cam Clay (MCC) model to evaluate the effect of viscous behavior of natural Estuarine clay. Both EVP models require six parameters, and five of them are similar to the MCC model. We used the secondary compression index of clay in the EVP model formulations to include the viscous response of clay. We obtained numerical models’ parameters from laboratory tests and interpretation of CPT and CPTu data. We observed that the EVP models predicted well compared with the MCC model because of the inclusion of soft clay’s viscosity in the EVP models. Moreover, the flow rule effect in the embankment’s performance predictions was noticeable. The non-associated flow rule EVP model predicted the field monitoring settlement and pore pressure better compared to the MCC model and the associated flow EVP model.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the link between employee value proposition (EVP) dimensions, employee commitment and organisational citizenship behaviours (OCBs) in organisations. Design/methodology/approach This cross-sectional study collected data from 134 employees of a government department using a survey method. The collected data were analysed with a regression method using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 24. Findings The regression analysis shows that perceived organisational support, and work environment (WE) influence employee commitment. Also, the relationship between organisational commitment (OC) and OCB was found to be significant. The analysis also confirms that OC mediates the relationship between the EVP variables and OCB. Research limitations/implications This study is cross-sectional research, future studies may adopt a longitudinal method or multi-sourced data for further research insights. Due to the adopted research design, the findings should be interpreted with this in mind. Practical implications This study helps to understand the impact of EVP attributes on employee commitment in organisations. The finding would benefit organisations on the need to enhance EVP fulfilment, and its benefits findings from the study show perceived organisation support and WE affects OC while OC affects OCB. It is crucial for organisations to consider and align EVP strategies in their people management strategies. Originality/value This study contributes to the EVP theory by analysing the role of affiliation dimension of the EVP on employee commitment. Prior research appears to have neglected the influence of the EVP on employee commitment.

The institution compete smartly to attract the generation Y talent from workforce market. After they get the best talent, they face significant challenges to retain them by boosting their motivation, job satisfaction, and engagement in order to achieve outstanding performance. On the other hand, employee value proposition (EVP) is one of the factors to improve the employee’s commitment. The institution with the clear EVP will enhance the employee’s commitment. Many literatures describe about the characteristic of generation Y and also with EVP. But, only few researcher explain about the EVP in the perspective of generation Y. This journal is trying to research what are the dominant factors of employee value proposition (EVP) from the perspective of generation Y. The respondents are the generation Y who work at the one of the institution in Indonesia.

An Employee Value Proposition (EVP) is the unique value of benefits offered to the employees and the employee will get consequently from the skills, capabilities and experience they convey to an organization. An EVP is about differentiating the organization from the others. Employee loyalty is when they employee feels satisfied, obligated and willing to commit and stay with the organization for organizational success. In this paper, the relationship between EVP and employee loyalty will be proposed. A conceptual framework on this relationship is used as a fundamental for highlighting the roles of EVP in influencing talented workers or outstanding performers to remain loyal with the current organization. Five dimensions of EVP such as rewards, opportunity, organization, work and people are discussed, and its potential significant influence on employee loyalty is concluded at the end of the discussion.

Nowadays, with the ubiquitous presence of mobile devices, modems play a relevant role. The EVP is a vector processor used by Ericsson on its 2G, 3G and 4G modems. Due to size, weight and power constraints, mobile devices have limited power sources, and because of that the hardware must be power efficient. The processors used in this type of devices have multiple power consumption states. If a processor is in a idle state i.e. without code to execute, it can switch off and consume less power. Moreover, if it is known beforehand that the processing takes less time than available, the processor can be set to a lower frequency (and lower voltage level), executing the same amount of work, but consuming considerable less energy. With this dynamic power consumption the autonomy of the devices is extended, because the processor can be in a reduced power consumption state most of the time. One way to maximize the time during which the processor stays in a reduced power consumption state is through the execution of optimized code. This can be achieved through manual code optimization, or by letting the compiler apply optimizations on the code. Link Time Optimization (LTO) is a compilation technique that tries to expand the optimizations scope by joining the input files and compile them as a unique file. Using this technique the compiler has more information during the optimization phase and should be able to do better decisions about the optimizations to apply. The team responsible for the development of Embedded Vector Processor (EVP) wanted to evaluate the benefits of LTO. To be able to implement and evaluate LTO it was necessary to migrate the GNU linker to support EVP and enable LTO compilation on the EVP backend of GNU Compiler Collection (GCC). This dissertation reports this work, including the necessary concepts to understand the problem addressed, how was added EVP support in the GNU linker, and the necessary step to enable LTO compilation on GCC. Also it will be presented and analysed the performance improvements of using LTO. The LTO compilation presents mixed results some of the test cases have a small performance improvements, and other present a small performance degradation. This was kind is expected because of the organization of the test code. It is composed by several files that do not have dependencies between them, in this situation the LTO compilation do not present much benefits.
Hoje em dia, com a ubiquidade dos dispositivos móveis, os modems desempenham um papel relevante. O EVP e um processador vectorial usado pela Ericsson nos seus modems 2G, 3G e 4G. Devido às condicionantes ao nível de tamanho, peso e energia, os dispositivos móveis tem fontes de energia limitadas, e por isso o hardware tem de ser energeticamente eficiente. Os processadores usados neste tipo de dispositivos, tem múltiplos estados de consumo. Se um processador estiver inactivo i.e. sem ter código a ser executado, o processador pode ser desligado passando a consumir menor energia. Mais ainda se for conhecido de antemão que o processamento demora menos tempo que o disponível, o processador pode reduzir a sua frequência (e a sua tensão), realizando a mesma quantidade de trabalho mas consumindo consideravelmente menos energia. Com o consumo energético dinâmico, a autonomia dos dispositivos e estendida, porque o processador pode estar grande parte do tempo num estado de baixo consumo energético. Uma maneira de maximizar o tempo que o processador está num estado de baixo consumo energético e através do uso de código optimizado. Este pode ser obtido através de optimização manual, ou deixando o compilador aplicar as otimiza ções. LTO é uma técnica de compilação que tenta expandir o âmbito das optimizações através da junção dos cheiros de entrada e compila-los como um s o. O uso desta técnica permite que o compilador tenha mais informação durante a fase de optimização e deve conseguir tomar melhores decisões sobre as optimizações a aplicar. A equipa responsável pelo desenvolvimento do EVP queria avaliar os benefícios do LTO. Para implementar e avaliar o LTO era preciso adicionar suporte para o EVP ao GNU linker e activar o LTO no GCC específico para o EVP. Esta dissertação reporta o trabalho realizado, incluindo os conceitos necessários para perceber o problema, como foi adicionado o suporte para o EVP no GNU linker e os passos necessários para activar a compilação LTO no GCC. Vão ser também apresentadas e analisadas as alterações de desempenho quando o LTO e usado. A compilação LTO apresenta resultados ambíguos, em alguns dos casos de teste houve pequenos aumentos de desempenho e noutros casos pequenas diminuições de desempenho. Estes resultados eram mais ou menos esperados, devido a organização do código de teste. Este é composto por diversos cheiros que não tem dependências entre si, nestas situações a compilação LTO não traz praticamente nenhuns benefícios.

The key objective of this study was to determine the importance of remuneration in the organisational employer value proposition (EVP) decision-making process, who the EVP decision makers in organisations are, and whether EVP strategy is aligned with the organisational strategy.A quantitative study, using a survey as data-collection method, was conducted. The survey was developed to explore the importance of remuneration in the EVP process and to gather data regarding EVP decision makers and the alignment of EVP to organisational strategy. A total of 101 respondents participated in this study, and content analysis was used to interpret the data. The data were collected via SurveyMonkey and statistically analysed using SPSS.The findings indicate that remuneration and all of its components are crucial to the process of EVP decision making. The findings also indicate the importance of aligning EVP strategy to organisational strategy. The main EVP decision makers in organisations are the CEO and the Human Resources Manager. Organisations need to find the correct mix of decision makers in this process to optimise value. Organisations should also ensure alignment of the EVP with organisational strategy, and implement an optimal remuneration strategy to ensure the best possible EVP. A relationship framework was developed to graphically represent the findings of the study.

The aim of the Master Thesis is to describe how to build Employer Brand a company. It is based on the description of Employer Branding project of a particular company and the evaluation its process. The thesis is a case study and consists of theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on trends and changes in leadership approach, definition of Employer Branding and HR Marketing. The practical part deals with the brand building process itself, describes the outputs of the project and evaluates the project. The final chapter is devoted to the general applicability of the Employer Branding Strategy and its weaknesses.

Human resource management practices follow the evolution in the management of the human capital of organizations. Marketing activities focused on corporate brand providing essential and strategic service to identify, formatting and dissemination of the employer's brand. Together the two areas begin to play supportive role in attracting qualified professionals enhancing and propagating the corporate identity to potential candidates through EVP. The EVP, the Employer Brand and Employer Reputation relate through the practices of recruitment and selection, which is HR area to first keep in touch with potential candidates and start the construction of the psychological contract with the new employee. The employer brand, as the image of the organization, is used to attract, retain and engage people and has the EVP as its central core. This study identifies the practice of recruitment and selection as the main theoretical connection between EVP, the employer brand and employer reputation and identifies that Opportunity as the most relevant dimension of the EVP for the studied public.
As práticas da gestão de recursos humanos acompanham a evolução na gestão do capital humano das organizações. As atividades de marketing voltadas à marca corporativa prestam serviço essencial e estratégico na identificação, formatação e divulgação da marca do empregador. Juntas as duas áreas passam a desempenhar papel solidário na atração de profissionais qualificados, reforçando e propagando a identidade corporativa aos potenciais candidatos através da EVP. Resumo:

This paper describes efforts to optimize the parameters for a platoon identification and accommodation algorithm that minimizes vehicle emissions. The algorithm was developed and implemented in the AnyLogic framework, and was validated by comparing it to the results of prior research. A four-module flowchart was developed to analyze the traffic data and to identify platoons. The platoon end time was obtained from the simulation and used to calculate the offset of the downstream intersection. The simulation calculates vehicle emissions with the aid of the VT-Micro microscopic emission model. Optimization experiments were run to determine the relationship between platoon parameters and minimum- and maximum-emission scenarios. Optimal platoon identification parameters were found from these experiments, and the simulation was run with these parameters. The total time of all vehicles in the simulation was also found for minimum and maximum emissions scenarios. Time-space diagrams obtained from the simulations demonstrate that optimized parameters allow all cars to travel through the downstream intersection without waiting, and therefore cause a decrease in emissions by as much as 15.5%. This paper also discusses the outcome of efforts to leverage high resolution data obtained from WV-705 corridor in Morgantown, WV. The proposed model was developed for that purpose and implemented in the AnyLogic framework to simulate this particular road network with four coordinated signal-controlled intersections. The simulation was also used to calculate vehicle CO, HC, NOx emissions with the aid of the VT-Micro microscopic emission model. Offset variation was run to determine the optimal offsets for this particular road network with traffic volume, signal phase diagram and vehicle characteristics. A classifier was developed by discriminant analysis based on significant attributes of HRD. Equation of this classifier was developed to distinguish between set of timing plans that produce maximum emission from set of timing plans that produce maximum emission. Also, current work investigates the potential use of the GPS-based and similar priority systems by giving preemption through signalized intersections. Two flowcharts are developed to consider presence of emergency vehicle (EV) in the system so called EV life cycle and EV preemption (EVP). Three scenarios are implemented, namely base case scenario when no EV is involved, EV scenario when EV gets EVP only, and EV scenario when EV gets preemption by signals and right-of-way by other vehicles. Research makes an attempt to compare emission results of these scenarios to find out whether EV effects vehicle emission in the road network and what is the level of this influence if any.

Ökande konkurrens mellan företag har gjort att det blir allt viktigare att profilera organisationen som en attraktiv arbetsgivare för att på så sätt kunna attrahera kompetent personal så att företaget kan bibehålla positionen på marknaden.Studiens syfte har varit att få kunskap om hur processerna kring arbetsgivarvarumärket bedrivs, vilka fördelar som anställda uppfattar att en anställning i företaget innebär samt vad företaget behöver arbeta med för att attrahera framtida personal. 43 webbaserade enkäter med personalen, 12 enkäter med högskoleklass tillhörande målgruppen, 2 kvalitativa intervjuer med HR-personal samt 44 miniintervjuer med potentiell framtida personal har genomförts för att besvara följande frågor: hur arbetar organisationen med employer branding? hur upplever de anställda organisationens EVP? och vad efterfrågar potentiella medarbetare hos en framtida arbetsgivare?Resultaten visar brister i det strategiska arbetet kring employer branding processerna. En lyckad intern strategi har medfört stark organisationskultur och organisationsidentitet som skapat lojalitet gentemot arbetsgivarvarumärket hos de anställda. Den externa strategin särskiljer dock inte arbetsgivarvarumärket från varumärket, och ett starkt EVP saknas då identitet, profil och image inte överensstämmer.Nyckelord: Arbetsgivarvarumärket, Employer branding, Employee value proposition, attrahera personal, privat organisation

Syftet med denna studie var att genom ett medarbetarperspektiv få en fördjupad förståelse för konceptet arbetsgivarvarumärke och vad som uppfattas attraktivt i ett varuproducerande företag på landsbygden. För att uppnå syftet har ett kvalitativt metodval med semistrukturerade intervjuer använts som datainsamlingsmetod. Intervjuerna har skett med både tjänstemän och kollektivanställda. Dessutom användes företagets medarbetarenkäter för att generera ett rikare datamaterial. Studien bidrar till förståelsen att arbetsgivarvarumärkeskonceptet kan användas i ett varuproducerande företag på landsbygden. Resultatet visar att företaget är unikt genom att de är en av få arbetsgivare på orten samt att de erbjuder branschunika arbetstider. Vidare visar resultatet att företaget är attraktivt av anledning att de erbjuder trygga anställningsförhållanden i en trivsam och säker arbetsmiljö. Dessutom erbjuds utvecklings- och karriärmöjligheter, tillfredställande kollegiala relationer och en familjär atmosfär. Resultatet visar även att arbetslivsbalansen och relationen till chefen är attribut som värderas, trots att dessa inte nämndes spontant av respondenterna. Studiens resultat påvisar även en skillnad mot tidigare forskning, att förmåner i form av lön inte har någon större påverkan på attraktiviteten så länge de basala behoven tillfredsställs.
The purpose of this study was to gain a deeper understanding of the concept of employer brand and what is perceived as attractive in a manufacturing company in the countryside through an employee perspective. To achieve the purpose, a qualitative method choice with semistructured interviews has been used as a data collection method, where the interviews have been conducted with both chiefs and coworkers. In addition, the company's employee surveys generated a richer data material. The study contributes to the understanding that the employer brand concept can be used in a manufacturing company on the countryside. The result shows that the company is unique because it is one of few employers in the area and that they also have unique working hours. Furthermore, the company is attractive because of the secure employment conditions in a pleasant and safe work environment. In addition, the employer offers development and career opportunities, satisfactory relationship between colleagues and a familiar atmosphere. The results also show that the work life balance and relationship with the manager are attributes that are valued, even though these were not spontaneously mentioned by the respondents. This study also displays a distinction towards previous research that benefits in the form of pay have no major impact on attractiveness as long the basic needs are satisfied.

This study was developed during the Swedish spring semester of 2013 for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration of the now graduates Rafael Moser and Thor-Björn Käck. The students, authors of this research, were selected by ABB Sweden for a research internship on the field of Employer Branding (EB). Employer Branding (EB) is an increasingly popular practice within multinationals. It is applied to develop in the minds of current and potential employees, brand associations related to the organization as an employer. The research problem identified by the authors relates to the lack of reliable measurement of the employer branding process. Therefore, this study consisted of creating a set of indicators or measures of the process’ performance. To do so, the authors relied on theoretical support as well as consistent feedback from Joakim Forsberg, employer branding manager at ABB Sweden. A conceptual model of the employer branding process was developed and internal measures, or Key Performance Indicators (KPI), were placed in the context of the three stage model. The KPI’s were proposed as a solution for the lack of internal measurement of the EB process, and were developed based on the objectives of each stage of the process as well as in Human Resources and Marketing theory. Once the model was developed to the point where internal measures could be incorporated into the EB process, an empirical study was executed and respondents were asked to scrutinize the applicability of the proposed solution in current business environment as well as the applicability of certain KPI’s. Among different findings, results from the empirical study point to a variety of issues that currently inhibit the development of employer branding and consequently its measurement i.e. lack of managerial autonomy, poor integration and communication among departments, misguided resource allocation within EB, etc. Nevertheless, as the experts and professionals interviewed in this research point out, solving the problem discussed in this research with the solution proposed is considered to be the future of employer branding.

Este trabalho descreve o desenvolvimento de um instrumento automático para medida de campo visual do olho humano, baseado na ocorrência de potenciais visuais evocados O principal objetivo do estudo foi demonstrar que os potenciais visuais evocados (P100) observados na região occipital podem ser correlacionados à visão de flashes de fontes luminosas pontuais distribuídas sobre uma calota com a forma de um elipsóide deformado. Aplicou-se ao domo hemisférico uma distribuição de fontes luminosas pontuais que descrevem a forma do campo visual humano (limitado a 60º acima, 70º abaixo do eixo central, limitado a 60º no lado nasal e 105º no lado temporal de cada olho). A ausência de potenciais visuais evocados por flashes luminosos é utilizada como indicador de perda da sensitividade da retina. Detalhes do desenvolvimento deste instrumento e os resultados preliminares são apresentados.
An instrument for automatic in vivo evaluation of the human visual field boundaries based on the evoked visual potentials was developed. The main objective of this study is to demonstrate that evoked potentials (P100) over the occipital area can be correlated to the vision of punctual light flashes from a deformed ellipsoid-shaped calotte. A punctual light sources distribution that follows the human visual field (boundaries lying 60º upward, 70º downward from the central axis, limited to 60º in the nasal side and 105º on the temple side of each eye) was applied to the hemispherical dome. The absences of light flashes evoked potentials are used as an indicator of lack the sensivity of the retina. The details of the development of this instrument and preliminary results for in vivo eyes are presented.

The master´s thesis summarizes complex view on employer branding, including formation of theoretical base, which is then applied in the form of actual employer branding project at SETOS Retail Ltd. The thesis aims to design particular stages in the process of creating employer`s brand creation, which optimize effectiveness of following processes in human resources, after that the process is being created and its benefits are evaluated at the company. The designed stages are based on the theoretical base, situational and employee analysis. The thesis consists of creation of the EVP (Employee Value Proposition), company values and mission that have been defined based on qualitative research with employees. The master´s thesis embodies creation of the Culture-Book Life Hacking, the company profile on the platform COCUMA and definition of the recruitment processes including onboarding of employees. Finally, mainly monitoring employee retention validates the thesis` contribution and benefits.

Episcleral venous pressure (EVP) refers to the pressure in the episcleral veins. It is used by scientists in glaucoma physiology and pharmacology research to study the parameters of aqueous humor dynamics as part of the Goldmann equation [1]. The episcleral veins drain into the superior ophthalmic vein which drains into the cavernous sinus. Our previous work in a pig model [2] shows for the first time that EVP is an excellent non-invasive quantitative marker for intracranial pressure (ICP) estimation (high ICP leads to high intracranial venous pressure and high EVP). Intracranial pressure (ICP) is an important marker of outcomes in traumatic brain injury. There is an unfulfilled civilian and military need for a non-invasive ICP measurement modality. EVP could serve as a quantitative ICP biomarker, measurable by personnel with different skill levels for remote acute triage in battlefields and other urgent situations.

Introdução: A endocardite da válvula prostética (EVP) é uma infecção cardíaca do revestimento interno do coração nas válvulas cardíacas substituídas que são denominadas válvulas prostéticas. A EVP, um dos ramos da classificação de endocardite, possui subdivisões que dizem respeito ao tempo e ao procedimento clínico que o paciente tenha sido submetido previamente à infecção, e desta maneira traçam perfis microbiológicos distintos. Objetivo: Analisar em vies etiologico e epidemiologico a endocardite infecciosa da válvula prostética. Material e métodos: Foram utilizados os métodos de leitura crítica e de pesquisa bibliográfica. As análises foram realizadas através das principais fontes de bancos de dados e artigos científicos, entre eles: scholar google, SciELO, PubMed. Resultados: Cerca de 20% de todos os casos de endocardite se tratam de EVP e ocorre em cerca de 6% das pessoas que tem válvula prostética. A epidemiologia de EVP muda se a substituição da válvula foi por via cirúrgica ou por procedimento de implante transcateter, bem como se a infecção for precoce ou tardia. Em procedimentos cirúrgicos, a literatura revela que cerca de 76,7% dos casos de EVP ocorrem dentro de 120 dias após a cirurgia, enquanto o tempo mediano do reconhecimento e diagnóstico de PVE em procedimento transcateter é de 5 meses. Em quase todos os casos, bactérias Staphylococcus spp são os principais responsáveis pelas infecções que acarretam em EVP, seguido das bactérias Enterococci spp especificamente em casos de substituição da válvula aórtica via transcateter. A grande maioria dos afetados são mais comumente do sexo masculino, com idades variantes de 10 a 80 anos. EVP é comumente associada com grande chances óbito, atingindo porcentagens de até 34,4% de mortalidade, sendo a complicação que apresenta maior taxa de letalidade entre os tipos de endocardite infecciosa. Conclusão: Entende-se que a endocardite se encontra, ainda, caracterizada como uma doença relativamente incomum, entretanto, se apresemta em viés extremamente complexo, de forma a ser considerada uma doença de grande risco à vida.

The Experimental Vehicles Program (EVP) was created in 2004 as an umbrella program for five different undergraduate experimental vehicle design teams. These projects consist of the Solar Vehicle, Moonbuggy, Baja SAE, Formula SAE, and Solar Boat. The goal of the EVP is to foster undergraduate student development through hands-on construction of experimental vehicles with the guidance of faculty mentors and partnerships with both national and international industry leaders. Each EVP project performs a vital function in the professional development of students. The projects provide a forgiving environment in which students can test their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting and learn important skills such as leadership, effective communication, and working as a team member. Furthermore, the students in the EVP develop highly versatile and qualified skill sets that will allow them to fill various positions within the workplace. In the past 90% of EVP graduates have been able to obtain highly regarded national and international positions upon graduation due to their real-world hands-on experience gained throughout their involvement in the EVP. Each year the EVP sponsors up to sixty interdisciplinary students that come together in peer-led teams to combine and expand upon their classroom knowledge in building innovative vehicles. The successes of the MTSU EVP have been recognized by becoming the national model for hands-on engineering education; helping engineering students take classroom knowledge and apply it to real-world situations. Students work in teams to annually design, construct, and test novel vehicle designs for participation in national and international competitions. Due to the competitive nature of each of the events, students must use cutting edge technology and design methods in order to create the best entries possible. Often times this means creating partnerships with industry leaders who help mentor the students from the design conception, the fabrication, through the manufacturing of each vehicle. These partnerships benefit both the students and the companies; students are able to create real-world contacts and gain a working knowledge of the industry that they cannot learn in the classroom. Furthermore, the students are able to use the contacts to garner equipment like solar panels and wheels. Likewise, the companies are able to receive recognition at national and international competition as program sponsors are advertised on the competition vehicles. Moreover the industries are able to build relationships with future employees who have real-world experience and who have become intimately involved with specialized technology such as “green energy”.

This paper reports a wave-based analysis approach for predicting static buckling instabilities in axially-loaded columns and frames. It builds upon recent work on the wave-based vibration analysis of frame-like structures modeled by Timoshenko beams. To predict buckling, axial preload modeling is included in the equations of motion and the wave-based analysis approach is reformulated accordingly. This reformulation includes development of reflection and transmission matrices for a general, four-member angled joint. An eigenvalue problem (EVP) is then solved for example systems by setting the frequency of the wave solutions arbitrarily close to zero while seeking the axial preload which zeroes the EVP determinant. Numerical conditioning of the EVP problem is discussed as an essential step for ensuring successful application of the method. Notably, the method allows exact solutions to parameterized systems to be computed quickly and easily without the need for special discretization or mesh generation. This is exploited, for example, to find the optimal cross-brace location for an H-frame by varying a single parameter in the EVP determinant, avoiding the need to regenerate geometry and/or discretization (e.g., mesh topology). For a conservatively-loaded column, and for example portal and H-frames, results from the introduced approach show excellent agreement with known solutions.

Resumo:

Abstract Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been considered a precarious health issue especially within the military population. Research has shown that early treatment of TBI could reduce possible neurocognitive injury. However, the nature of military triage has created challenges for early TBI detection. Intracranial pressure (ICP), which is used as a biomarker of outcomes in TBI, is not only expensive to measure but is also invasive and requires specialized surgical and procedural skills. Episcleral venous pressure (EVP) was proven to be a good alternative biomarker to ICP. However, the current technology in measuring EVP is not portable, and requires a skilled operator with a slit-lamp for testing. Moreover, the measurement is highly subjective and depends on the operator’s skill and technique. Therefore, there is a critical need for alternative technology for non-clinical TBI diagnosis. In this paper, we present an improved venomanometer design for measuring EVP in the field.

Resumo:

The interplay of yield stress and elasticity on the temperature field and heat transfer rates in tube flow of elastoviscoplastic (EVP) fluids is investigated in this paper. The constitutive structure of the EVP fluid obeys a linear combination of the Phan-Thien-Tanner model for viscoelastic fluids and the Bingham model for viscoplastic fluids. The momentum and energy equations are solved asymptotically under constant wall heat flux. The fluid behavior is governed by the Weissenberg Wi and the Bingham N numbers.

Overhead electrical transmission lines are always susceptible to aeolian vibrations, caused by light to moderate winds. Spacer dampers are used in bundled transmission lines to keep the conductors at required minimum spacing and to suppress the wind induced vibrations. Mathematical models are necessary for the computation of the conductor vibrations for studying the efficiency of damping measures. The so called energy balance method gives good results for estimating the vortex excited vibrations of overhead electrical transmission lines. In its standard form it requires the knowledge of the eigenfunctions, which are routinely calculated for the single conductor lines. However, the problem becomes more involved in the case of bundled conductors with spacer dampers due to very dense spectrum of the natural frequencies. In the present paper some approaches towards solving the transcendental eigenvalue problem (EVP) for the bundled conductors with spacer dampers are discussed. It is formulated as an algebraic transcendental EVP, which however presents several numerical difficulties. Reasons for these numerical difficulties are discussed in some detail. A new approach, named as “continuous spectrum approach,” provides better engineering solution for the transmission line bundled conductors. The solution of the EVP gives the necessary input data for applying the energy balance.

Review question / Objective: This meta-analysis investigated the value of rsDECT -based non-invasive assessment of the severity of esophagus varices and the risk of hemorrhage in patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension. Eligibility criteria: Studies meeting the following criteria were included: Studies evaluating the effect of rsDECT on EV in patients with hepatic cirrhosis, and published in Chinese or English; The diagnosis was based on acknowledged gold standard. Containing complete four-grid table data of diagnostic tests, which can be extracted directly or indirectly. Review, case-report, conference summary, animal study, and repeatedly published study were excluded.Based on the severity of EV shown in the endoscopy, patients in the study group were classified into the mild EV (EV1), medium EV (EV2), or severe EV (EV3) groups according to the General Rules for Recording Endoscopic Findings of Esophagogastric varices (The Japan Society for Portal Hypertension) : EV1, slightly linear expansions; EV2, moderately beaded expansions; EV3, significantly nodular or neoplastic expansions.

Resumo:

• Energy transition in the transportation sector is indicated by the gradual shifting from the use of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) globally. • The transportation sector consumed 43% of total global energy and emitted 16.2% of total global emissions in 2020. Similarly, the transportation sector in Indonesia consumed 45% of the total energy and contributed to 13.6% of CO2 emission in 2019. • Global EV development and utilization are increasing exponentially, especially in developed countries, and there were 10 million EVs in 2020 worldwide. • China has successfully dominated global EVs, both in EV utilization and manufacturing with 45% global EVs Stock and 77% global EV batteries production. • Geopolitically, the abundance of Indonesian nickel reserves provides Indonesia a great opportunity to be one of the main players in EV battery manufacturing. • With an annual average growth of 6%, the projected motorized vehicles growth in Indonesia will reach 214 million in 2030. The right government policies would make Indonesia become the Southeast Asia EV market hub as Indonesia has the largest automotive sales and production market among ASEAN countries. • Measurable and realistic national EV development targets and plans supported by executing policies such as fiscal incentives and hardware standardization, sufficient EV charging infrastructure, and other supporting infrastructures are key elements that drive successful EV development in several countries. • Insufficient domestic industries and technology, and the absence of policies that comprehensively cover the customers and producers directly to support EV development and utilization in Indonesia, resulting in the achieved number of EVs and EV infrastructures in Indonesia are far from the updated target or even the initial target (RUEN, 2017).
