Heat acclimation refers to the systematic and gradual increase in exercise in a controlled, laboratory environment. Increased duration and intensity of exercise in the heat positively affects physiological responses, such as higher sweat rate, plasma volume expansion, decreased heart rate, and lower internal body temperature. The estimation of the heat flux at the interface between a solidifying metal casting and mold is a frequently investigated topic. Accurate knowledge of the interfacial heat transfer can be used in solidification simulation to reduce the time and cost of the casting design process. A common and well-established approach to estimating the interfacial heat flux is the solution of the inverse heat conduction problem. Temperature measurements from thermocouples imbedded in the sand mold are used as inputs to the inverse solver. It is well-documented that imbedded thermocouples which are subjected t

The realization of advanced thermal power plants with increased efficiencies requires the development of new materials with enhanced capabilities in respect to high temperature strength and steam oxidation behavior. The change in the environmental policy and the increasing contribution of renewable energy sources into the public electric grid has changed the operation mode of the existing power plants in Europe. Instead of quasi stationary operation, for which the conventional thermal power plant fleet was designed, cyclic operation modes will dominate the power plant service lifetime. The cre

Thermoelectric generators (TEGs) are currently a topic of interest in the field of energy harvesting for automobiles. In applying TEGs to the outside of the exhaust tailpipe of a vehicle, the difference in temperature between the hot exhaust gases and the automobile coolant can be used to generate a small amount of electrical power to be used in the vehicle. The amount of power is anticipated to be a few hundred watts based on the temperatures expected and the properties of the materials for the TEG. This study focuses on developing efficient heat exchanger modules in order to maximize the pow

The necessity to improve broiler thermotolerance and live performance led to the following hypothesis: Appropriate comprehensive incubation treatments that include significant temperature management changes will promote angiogenesis and will improve acquisition of thermotolerance and carcass quality of heavy broilers through epigenetic adaptation. It was based on the following questions: 1. Can TM during embryogenesis of broilers induce a longer-lasting thermoregulatory memory (up to marketing age of 10 wk) that will improve acquisition of thermotolerance as well as increased breast meat yield

House flies (Muscadomestica) are global pests of animal agriculture, causing major annoyance, carrying pathogens among production facilities and humans and thus have profound impacts on animal comfort and productivity. Successful fly control requires an integrated pest management (IPM) approach that includes elements of manure management, mass trapping, biological control, and selective insecticide use. Insecticidal control of house flies has become increasingly difficult due to the rapidity with which resistance develops, even to new active ingredients. Global climate change poses additional

Liquid contamination in dry gas seals (DGS) can come from a variety of sources, including lube oil carryover and liquid dropout, due to the Joule-Thompson effect across the seal faces, which can cause DGS failure. The physical effect of liquids on DGS performance is a topic of limited understanding, and conflicting theories exist regarding liquid-induced failure mechanisms. While tests have been performed on DGS test rigs (primarily by seal OEMs), very little testing or analysis has been specifically aimed at studying the heat generation behind DGS behavior following liquid injection, and test

An autoclave is a machine used in labs to sterilize items by applying heat and pressure to kill pathogens like bacteria and viruses. It uses saturated steam to destroy contaminants, making it useful in various fields including dentistry and microbiology. Autoclaves have evolved from basic steam sterilizers to advanced versions. They work by removing air, pumping in steam under pressure, and maintaining a high temperature to sterilize items. Safety precautions include proper training, not overcrowding, and using autoclavable materials. Not everything can be autoclaved; materials like glass, met
