We prove the existence of a parabolic curve for a germ of biholomorphic map tangent to the identity at an isolated singular point of a surface under some conditions. For this purpose, we present a Camacho–Sad type index theorem for fixed curves of biholomorphic maps of singular surfaces and develop a local intersection theory of curves in singular surfaces from an analytic approach by means of Grothendieck residues.

AbstractGiven a self-adjoint operator and a relatively trace class perturbation, one can associate the singular spectral shift function – an integer-valued function on the real line which measures the flow of singular spectrum, not only at points outside of the essential spectrum, where it coincides with the classical notion of spectral flow, but at points within the essential spectrum too. The singular spectral shift function coincides with both the total resonance index and the singular μ-invariant. In this paper we give a direct proof of the equality of the total resonance index and singular μ-invariant assuming only the limiting absorption principle and no condition of trace class type – a context in which the existence of the singular spectral shift function is an open question. The proof is based on an application of the argument principle to the poles and zeros of the analytic continuation of the scattering matrix considered as a function of the coupling parameter.

The conditions of isolation of a zero singular point of plane polynomial fields of third and fourth degree are considered in terms of the coefficients of the components of these fields. The isolation conditions depend on the greatest common divisor of the components of polynomial fields: in some cases only on its degree, and in some cases, additionally, on the presence of nonzero real zeros. The reasoning, which allows one to write out the isolation conditions, is based on the concept of the resultant and subresultants of components of plane polynomial fields. If the zero singular point is isolated, its index is calculated through the values of subresultants and coefficients of components.

AbstractWe prove the birational rigidity of Fano complete intersections of index 1 with a singular point of high multiplicity, which can be close to the degree of the variety. In particular, the groups of birational and biregular automorphisms of these varieties are equal, and they are non-rational. The proof is based on the techniques of the method of maximal singularities, the generalized 4n2-inequality for complete intersection singularities and the technique of hypertangent divisors.

Abstract The dissertation considers a degree theory and the index of a critical point of demi-continuous, everywhere defined mappings of the monotone type. A topological degree is derived for mappings from a Banach space to its dual space. The mappings satisfy the condition (S+), and it is shown that the derived degree has the classical properties of a degree function. A formula for the calculation of the index of a critical point of a mapping A : X→X* satisfying the condition (S+) is derived without the separability of X and the boundedness of A. For the calculation of the index, we need an everywhere defined linear mapping A' : X→X* that approximates A in a certain set. As in the earlier results, A' is quasi-monotone, but our situation differs from the earlier results because A' does not have to be the Frechet or Gateaux derivative of A at the critical point. The theorem for the calculation of the index requires a construction of a compact operator T = (A' + Γ)-1Γ with the aid of linear mappings Γ : X→X and A'. In earlier results, Γ is compact, but here it need only be quasi-monotone. Two counter-examples show that certain assumptions are essential for the calculation of the index of a critical point.

The index formula for elliptic pseudodifferential operators on a two-dimensional manifold with conical points contains the Atiyah-Singer integral as well as two additional terms. One of the two is the 'eta' invariant defined by the conormal symbol, and the other term is explicitly expressed via the principal and subprincipal symbols of the operator at conical points. In the preceding paper we clarified the meaning of the additional terms for first-order differential operators. The aim of this paper is an explicit description of the contribution of a conical point for higher-order differential operators. We show that changing the origin in the complex plane reduces the entire contribution of the conical point to the shifted 'eta' invariant. In turn this latter is expressed in terms of the monodromy matrix for an ordinary differential equation defined by the conormal symbol.

In this work, we study thePoincaré-Hopf index, defined for isolated singularities of vector fields on manifolds. Moreover, we investigate some definitions of indices of vector fields defined on singular varieties, as the Schwartz index and the GSV index. We study these invariants in the case where (V; 0) is a germ of a complete intersection with an isolated singularity at the origin

Let G be a finite group and A be a subgroup of Aut(G). In this work, we studied the influence of the index of fixed point subgroup of A in G on the structure of G. When A is cyclic, we proved the following: (1) [G,A] is solvable if this index is squarefree and the orders of G and A are coprime. (2) G is solvable if the index of the centralizer of each x in H-G is squarefree where H denotes the semidirect product of G by A. Moreover, for an arbitrary subgroup A of Aut(G) whose order is coprime to the order of G, we showed that when G is solvable, then the Fitting length f([G,A]) of [G,A] is bounded above by the number of primes (counted with multiplicities) dividing the index of fixed point subgroup of A in G and this bound is best possible.

The volume contains the commented edition of the Devisement dou monde based on the Berlin Staatsbibliothek - Preußischer Kulturbesitz Codex, Hamilton 424. The Hamilton 424 Codex, transcribed in Venice in the second half of the fifteenth century, contains the translation of a Latin model (whose features can be partially reconstructed virtually starting from some translation errors) and is the only known witness of V. Due to its characteristics, V represents a crucial point in the definition of the transmission dynamics of Polo’s book: its readings are confirmed, often in a broader form, by the Latin version known as Z. V strengthens the hypothesis that, after returning to Venice, Marco Polo modified the text written with Rustichello da Pisa in Genoa. Actually, version V represents the first step of this long process of rewriting, which probably occurred in several phases. This volume includes an introduction, the text edition, a textual commentary, as well as an index. A second and forthcoming volume will contain the linguistic analysis and glossary.

From the point of view of the new science of globalism, the problems of the ecological, socio-economic state of the world and countries are considered through the prism of the interaction of the human psyche and society and the inhabited world. The criteria of ecological civilization of countries and peoples are justified. Optimizing the consumption of natural bio-and energy resources is becoming a fundamental environmental factor for sustainable development. The "Law of the maximum for humanity" as the law of the biosphere can be the arbitration court, the neutral force that will explain the historical need for mutual understanding, taking into account the interests of ecology and economy for the survival of man as a biovid on Earth; a new reality will begin to form — the phenomenon of co-residence of the world society with the biosphere. The world's population, its energy and bio-consumption, as well as all living matter on the planet, must correspond to the biological capacity of the Earth and not go beyond its boundaries. The task of the society is to implement a worldview breakthrough at the current stage of development, its own cultural mutation, which in the future will create the basis for adaptive technological and socio-cultural development. The task is to classify the entire Earth as a "Green Book" and to solve systemic environmental problems of a global nature. An integral part of sustainable development should be the principle of "vital consumption" at both the personal and social level, instead of the dominant principle of"expanded production and consumption". The indicator of the" culture of consumption "of natural resources, both at the individual level and at the level of society, should be included as an integral part of the integral indicator in the "True Indicator of Progress" and the "Human Development Index". The book is interdisciplinary in nature; it is a kind of scientific and philosophical poetic essay intended for teachers and students of universities in the field of sociology, ecology, biology and related fields, as well as for everyone who cares about the future of society.

In this paper, it is shown that Meshii et al.’s stress intensity factor (SIF) error index called the DCE index [1], that was developed for a finite element analysis (FEA) with singular elements, can be also applied to FEA with non-singular elements. The DCE index has a dimension of a SIF and, thus, has an advantage to the conventional error indexes (e.g., Zienkiewicz and Zhu’s) on the point that it does not require mesh refinement iteration process to obtain an accurate SIF solution. Then the validity of the DCE index for non-singular crack tip elements was shown for elastic crack problems, whose analytical SIF solutions are known.

Resumo:
Wide-angle parabolic equations (WAPEs) play an important role in physics. They are derived by an expansion of a square-root pseudo-differential operator in one-way wave equations, and then solved by finite-difference techniques. In the present paper, a different approach is suggested. The starting point is an extra-wide-angle parabolic equation (EWAPE) valid for small variations of the refractive index of a medium. This equation is written in an integral form, solved by a perturbation technique, and transformed to the spectral domain. The resulting split-step spectral algorithm for the EWAPE accounts for the propagation angles up to 90° with respect to the nominal direction. This EWAPE is also generalized to large variations in the refractive index. It is shown that WAPEs known in the literature are particular cases of the two EWAPEs. This provides an alternative derivation of the WAPEs, enables a better understanding of the underlying physics and ranges of their applicability, and opens an opportunity for innovative algorithms. Sound propagation in both motionless and moving media is considered. The split-step spectral algorithm is particularly useful in the latter case since complicated partial derivatives of the sound pressure and medium velocity reduce to wave vectors (essentially, propagation angles) in the spectral domain.
