The Arbërëshe are an Albanian minority residing in southern Italy. Comparing the previous anthropological literature, this study analyses the Arbëreshë minority while considering three focal points that have contributed to highlighting the differences between the Arbëreshë and Italian communities throughout the centuries: the Arbërisht language, the Greek - Byzantine rite and the ethnic endogamy. Thanks to ethnographic fieldwork, the three focal points have been studied in a community of the Italian Arbëria, San Costantino Albanese. The aim of the research is to understand the change in Arbëreshë identity as a result of recent social changes due to the modernization process and to interaction with the new Albanian immigrants.

AbstractShimʻon Günzburg’s Yiddish collection of customs, first brought to press in Venice in 1589 and reprinted dozens of times over the following centuries, is often considered a mere translation of the Hebrew Minhagim put together by Ayzik Tyrnau in the 1420s. Another claim often made about the book is that, although it was first printed in Venice, it was intended less for the Italian book market than for export. This article sets out to test these assumptions by examining Günzburg’s compilation from the perspective of minhag, or prayer rite. Drawing on Yiddish manuscripts preserved from sixteenth-century Italy, as well as early printed editions overlooked by scholars, it argues that Günzburg’s Minhogim are, in fact, more Italian than has been recognized. It also points up their potential for a comparative history of Ashkenazic book culture across the political and linguistic borders of Europe.

In traditionally Catholic countries, First Communion has widely functioned as a key rite of passage. In the modern age, and in particular during the eighteenth century, children were not admitted to the sacrament of the Eucharist until adolescence or even until the age of twenty. The ceremony thus represented a rite of passage that marked the transition to adulthood. A reversal of tradition came in some pastoral experiences of the nineteenth century and was officially established by the decree Quam singulari Christus amore – ordered in 1910 by Pope Pius X – which set the age for receiving Holy Communion at around seven years. First Communion still retained the form of a rite of passage, albeit without the adultist religious language surrounding Confirmation and without the pessimism about childhood that had been inherited from the past. The new educational outlook initiated by Pius X was also confirmed by his successors. Analysis of official Church pronouncements, devotional literature for children, and selected religious images – examined with an interdisciplinary heuristic approach – allows to shed light on a key shift in the Italian Catholic educational imaginary over the first half of the twentieth century, when Communion was seen as a typical childhood experience, in accordance with the changes underway in the upbringing and socialization of children and with the educational theories that valued children’s spontaneity and experience.

Aims.The research aims to reconstruct the phases of the new ritual of graduation in Italy to fully understand if there are a variety of social forms and conventions (linked to symbolic aspects) to be satisfied and if there are elements of ambiguity.
Methods.Using ethnographic technique, I chose to develop on the one hand a thick description of the ritual that highlights the "stratified hierarchy of significant structures" (Geertz 1998) while on the other I tried to develop a comparative methodology that takes into account - both temporal and spatial level - of some of the different graduation ritual models that exist and have existed.
Results. The analysis shows that there is a lack of consistency between the new degree model and the new graduation ceremony model. Furthermore, in the one hand, the liminal theatricality of the rite satisfies the demands of collective catharsis; on the other hand, there are some ambivalences and there is a lack of consistency between the conventions (and its symbolisms) in the ceremony and the university experiences that students could have in Italy.
Lastly, the moral entrepreneurs paid too little attention to the original meanings of the model of celebration from which it draws and its criticality.
Conclusions.Rituals in the educational field are very important socio-cultural forms of production of meanings whose modification could be more satisfactory if there was a greater reflection on the original educational models and if, in this reflection, they were involved a large number of subjects belonging to different groups.

The paper focuses on a selection of documents from Italian archives that have not been included in the standard reference source collections from the past two centuries. The documents reveal certain “curiosities” such as the identity/identities of the king of Bosnia in the mid-1470s or papal appeals to support a Greek rite Christian lord against the Ottoman Turks. The newly found or re-found information allows new insights into the complex connections that shaped the growing area of contact between Free Christendom and the Ottoman Empire. The same information also indicates the limitations–recent or not–of different “over-reaching” interpretations of partially known documentary evidence.

Abstract: Constructing a reality out of language has been a recurrent experience of humanity since the first creative usage of language. When a narrative practice is used as a self-reflection and self-construction in a non-fiction manner, the result is blending real-world events, situations, and places with a subjective worldview, and consequentially redefining one’s perception of these events, situations, and places (see for example Ricoeur 2009, Barton 2010, Linde 1993). It is interesting how telling a story of the self is used to reduce the subjective perception of otherness in conditions of recent immigration, a practice very well observed in Italian emigrant letters at the beginning of the XX s. (Franzina 1994). A contemporary case of such a practice are the emigrants’ online diaries in the form of blogs, Instagram stories, Facebook pages. Here we propose an example of how multimodal online narratives are used as a rite of passage from a condition of a subjective perception of otherness to a situation of becoming a less- other or even a non-other. For this ongoing research three Italian bloggers, living in the United States, are followed for 10 years in their experience of writing and videoblogging through blog platforms, Instagram, and Facebook. Differentiating cremated non-human bones from human ones in archaeological contexts is a challenging task. This analysis aims at proposing a rather solid criterion based on an osteoarchaeological sample. In this work, the main issues of taxonomic identification of cremated remains are analysed and a research methodology tested on an Italian protohistoric sample is proposed. The 314 subjects composing the sample come from 298 tombs of the Golasecca Civilization (1st millennium BC in north-eastern Italy). On a morphological basis, 246 bone fragments were selected from which as many thin sections were obtained for a histomorphological evaluation. From the analyses, we identified the presence of animals in burials, whereas a mere morphometric analysis was not able to recognize them. Furthermore, the taxonomic identification has allowed us to propose new hypotheses on the funerary rite of Golasecca linked to the zooarchaeological remains.

La Leichte Sprache tedesca e il linguaggio facile italiano sono forme di semplificazione linguistica: i testi prodotti in queste varietà seguono le regole contenute nelle linee guida (ad esempio quelle di Inclusion Europe) che variano, almeno in parte, a seconda della lingua. Molte delle linee guida sulla Leichte Sprache offrono indicazioni sull’utilizzo del linguaggio sensibile al genere, mentre le linee guida sul linguaggio facile italiano non danno alcuna indicazione. Partendo da questa diversità, il presente saggio analizza l’uso del linguaggio sensibile al genere in due corpora: il primo è un corpus parallelo di testi in Leichte Sprache e in linguaggio facile italiano prodotti in Alto Adige, il secondo è un corpus comparabile di guide ai musei tedeschi ed italiani in Leichte Sprache e in linguaggio facile italiano. L’analisi delle denominazioni di persona evidenzia gli influssi dei testi tedeschi sui testi italiani nel corpus parallelo, anche se vi sono casi di discrepanza nelle strategie utilizzate (ad esempio: Beraterinnen und Berater reso in italiano con i consulenti). I testi del corpus comparabile mostrano una prevalenza di denominazioni al maschile con percentuali similari in tedesco e in italiano. I risultati delle due analisi sono da collocare entro i limiti delle possibilità poste dai corpora stessi: la presenza scarsa di materiale autentico in lingua facile italiana non permette (ancora) di svolgere indagini su corpora più grandi e su generi testuali e comunicativi che potrebbero dare luogo a usi più variegati del linguaggio sensibile al genere (ad esempio siti web di Amministrazioni pubbliche, di Università ecc.). Ricerche future a carattere contrastivo su corpora più ampi sono necessarie per monitorare gli sviluppi nell’utilizzo del linguaggio sensibile al genere. Gender-sensitive language? Developments and Limits in the German Leichte Sprache and Italian Easy Language German Easy Language and Italian Easy Language are forms of linguistic simplification: texts produced in these varieties follow the rules contained in guidelines (e.g. those of Inclusion Europe) that vary, at least in part, according to the language. Many of the guidelines on German Easy Language give indications on the use of gender-sensitive language, while the guidelines on Italian Easy Language do not give any indication. Moving from this difference, this essay analyses the use of gender-sensitive language in two corpora: the first is a parallel corpus of texts in German and Italian Easy Language produced in South Tyrol, the second is a comparable corpus of German and Italian museum guides in German and Italian Easy Language. The analysis of the human nouns shows the influences of the German texts on the Italian texts in the parallel corpus, even though there are examples discrepancies in the strategies used (e.g. Beraterinnen und Berater rendered in Italian with the generic masculine i consulenti). The texts in the comparable corpus show a prevalence of masculine nouns with similar percentages in German and Italian. The results of the two analyses are to be placed within the limits of the possibilities posed by the corpora themselves: the scarce presence of authentic texts in Italian Easy Language does not (yet) allow investigations on larger corpora and on textual and communicative genres that could give rise to more varied uses of gender-sensitive language (e.g. websites of public administrations, universities, etc.). Future contrastive research on larger corpora is needed to monitor developments in the use of gender-sensitive language.

AbstractSpirituality may be a key factor in reducing the negative psychological effects of traumatic events and a means by which the experience of grief can be processed.The objective of the present research is to assess whether and how spirituality provided concrete support in those who lost a loved one during the COVID-19 pandemic. The participants are 8 people from the most affected cities in northern Italy. They were interviewed in depth, the interviews were transcribed and the texts were analyzed through Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis. The results show that spirituality has been found to be a protective factor with regard to the processing of grief in crisis situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular with regard to the belief that the deceased loved one is now in an otherworldly dimension. In addition, the celebration of a funeral rite offers support to the grieving person in the early stages of mourning thus laying the foundation for a healthy grieving process. It is therefore important to support individual spirituality, which can be a useful tool for processing the traumatic experience, especially in difficult times such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

John Milton's Italian sonnets are more significant than they are generally thought to be. In spite of attempts to revive interest in them, they are among the poet's least valued works. In this dissertation, I demonstrate that the practices of publishing the sonnets out of their original order and including English translations along side of the original Italian alter readings of the sonnets by altering their context. These practices are largely responsible for the sonnets' poor reception. In addition to being altered by editorial practices and translations, the context in which the sonnets are received has been altered by changing views about Milton's biography. The present study, therefore, also involves an examination of the way biographical studies can affect interpretation. Reading the poems in their original order and considering their arrangement as purposeful and artistic expands the possibilities for interpretation. My particular reading of the sonnet sequence reveals Milton's self-conscious, retrospective portrayal of a rite of passage in which he prepares to assume a mature and public role. The sonnets show that new understandings of religious and secular love motivate the poet to represent his views in a public form. In his presentation and arrangement of Sonnets 1-7, the poet translates personal conflict into social and political action, and he uses the interplay of tbe English and Italian languages and traditions to dramatize his relationship and responsibility to his native land and the world at large.

Esso ricostruisce dettagliatamente la fortuna e la tradizione dei testi, indagando il contesto storico e geografico in cui le liriche dei due mantovani furono diffuse. Sono affrontati problemi attributivi, con l’espunzione di un testo apocrifo assegnato dalla vulgata a Castiglione, e la pubblicazione di diversi inediti. Il corpus totale delle rime extravaganti si attesta così a 32 componimenti, comprese le sei poesie che compongono la piccola silloge dedicata ad Elisabetta Gonzaga dai due cugini. I testi con tradizione multipla sono dotati di due fasce di apparato, di tipo negativo, in cui si raccolgono le varianti di tradizione, rispettivamente sostanziali e grafico-morfologiche. Il commento discute i rari casi in cui è possibile attribuire le varianti redazionali all’autore. Seguono le ottave pastorali del "Tirsi". Il commento ai testi, attraverso il reperimento di modelli e luoghi paralleli, oltre ad illustrare la progressiva adesione alla rigorosa imitazione petrarchesca (da Rvf e Trionfi) proposta dal Bembo, mostra il rapporto dei due autori con la poesia cortigiana contemporanea.The paper aims to give a critical and annotated edition of vernacular poems by Baldassar Castiglione and Cesare Gonzaga. It reconstructs in detail the history of the circulation and tradition of the poems, and it examinates the historical and geographical context in which the texts were copied and spread. Attribution problems are discussed, an apocryphal poem is expunged from Castiglione’s corpus, unpublished texts are published. The whole corpus is composed of 32 texts, including the little collection of six lyric poems dedicated to Elisabetta Gonzaga. The negative apparatus is divided into two parts, where text variants and morphological differences between the witnesses are shown. Lyric poems are followed by the eclogue ‘Tirsi’. A commentary is provided, where models and parallel places are illustrated, aiming to highlight how the two poets pursued a faithful imitation of Petrarch poetry, following Pietro Bembo’s teachings, and showing their debts with the XVth Century court poetry.

Plant tolerance to salinity stress involves complex physiological traits, metabolic pathways, and molecular and gene networks (Gupta and Huang, 2014, Int J Genomics). Salinity impacts plants by causing osmotic stress and ion toxicity. Salt stress also causes the production of excessive reactive oxygen species (Munns and Tester, 2008, Annu Rev Plant Biol). Salt-stress perception and signalling are required for appropriate responses to these insults. Key components of the signalling pathways induced by salt stress are Ca2+ (Knight et al., 1997, Plant J), NO and the recently re-evaluated H2O2.
Cereals are overall considered to be salt sensitive and, among them, rice is the most sensitive one.
Two Italian rice cultivars, Vialone Nano (VN) and Baldo (B), were selected for their contrasting salt sensitivity, being VN more sensitive and B more tolerant. The analysis of the salt-stress responses in these varieties was performed both in plants and in suspension cell cultures established from their seeds.
At the whole plant level, morphological, physiological and molecular analyses showed B being able to rapidly respond to the stress, by developing of an adaptive programme that allowed growth to resume.
The components of the signal transduction pathway induced by salt stress were investigated in suspension cell cultures. The role of H2O2 and NO as signalling molecules in salt stress response was investigated in detail. In particular, the signature of H2O2 seemed to be important to determine the fate of the cells: acclimation in B versus programmed cell death in VN.
Moreover, to study Ca2+ signalling, transformed plants harboring Ca2+ sensors of both Italian rice varieties were obtained. These plants will be used as a tool to compare calcium signatures induced by salt stress in the sensitive and tolerant variety.La tolleranza delle piante allo stress salino è un sistema complesso di tratti fisiologici, vie metaboliche, e reti molecolari e geniche (Gupta e Huang, 2014, Int J Genomics). Nelle piante, lo stress salino causa due tipi di stress: uno stress osmotico e uno stress ionico. Un’alta salinità provoca anche una eccessiva produzione di dannose specie reattive dell'ossigeno (Munns e Tester, 2008, Annu Rev impianto Biol). La percezione e il signalling dello stress sono necessari per l’attivazione di una risposta adeguata. I componenti chiave delle vie di signalling indotte da stress salino sono Ca2+ (Cavaliere et al., 1997, pianta J), NO e H2O2. I cereali sono generalmente considerati sensibile al sale e, tra questi, il riso è il più sensibile. Due varietà di riso italiano, Vialone Nano (VN) e Baldo (B), sono state selezionate per la loro contrastante sensibilità al sale: VN è risultato essere il più sensibile mentre B il più tollerante. Le analisi delle risposte allo stress salino in queste due varietà sono state effettuate sia in pianta che in colture cellulari generate a partire da semi. A livello dell’intera pianta, analisi morfologiche, fisiologiche e molecolari hanno dimostrato che B è in grado di rispondere rapidamente allo stress, mettendo in atto un programma di adattamento che permette di riprendere la crescita. I componenti della via di trasduzione del segnale indotto da stress sono stati studiati in colture cellulari in sospensione. Il ruolo di H2O2 e NO, come molecole segnale in risposta allo stress salino, è stato studiato in dettaglio. In particolare, un diverso andamento nella produzione di H2O2 sembra essere importante per determinare il destino delle cellule: acclimatazione in B contro morte cellulare programmata in VN. Inoltre, sono state ottenute piante esprimenti sensori per il calcio per entrambe le varietà di riso italiano. Queste piante saranno uno strumento utile per studiare il signalling del calcio indotto da stress salino.

Arsenic (As) contamination of rice is an issue of global concern. Italy, although representing the European leader of rice production, is one of the countries mostly affected by As contamination of rice grain. Rice is mainly cultivated under continuous flooding, with the rapid depletion of oxygen in the soil. At the consequent highly reduced redox potentials, As is released into the porewater by the dissolution of iron-arsenic (Fe-As) minerals, and by the reduction of arsenate [As(V)] to arsenite [As(III)], a soluble compound that is rapidly taken up by the plants. In the presence of sulfide, As(III) co-precipitate with the formation of AsnSn minerals. Microorganisms are known to actively oxidize and reduce As, as well as to convert inorganic to organic As via methylation. Furthermore, microorganisms that use Fe or sulfur for their metabolic activities indirectly influence As biogeochemistry in the environment.
In this study, the role of two different practices, suggested to reduce As contamination in rice fields, in shaping rice rhizospheric microbial communities were investigated. Specifically, changes in the water management and use of sulfate (SO42-) as fertilizer were tested.
To analyze the influence of the water regime in rice rhizosphere microbiota, a semi-field experiment was set up. Plants were grown in rice field soil from Pavia (containing 18 mg kg-1 of As) in box plots managed with three water regimes: continuous flooding, continuous flooding with 2 weeks of drainage before flowering, and watering after complete soil drying (“aerobic rice”). In rhizosphere soil and in rhizoplane, aioA, arsC, arsM and arrA genes, encoding for different types of As transformation, as well as 16S rRNA genes belonging to dissimilatory Fe-reducing bacteria (DFeRB) and Fe-oxidizing bacteria (FeOB), were amplified and quantified with Real Time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). To analyze the whole active bacterial community, RNA was reverse-transcribed and 16S rRNA was amplified and sequenced by 454-pyrosequencing. The presence of DFeRB and FeOB was also highlighted in rhizoplane samples from plants at flowering stage with Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH). Furthermore, enrichment cultures of FeOB from roots cultivated under continuous flooding and from aerobic rice were set up on Fe(II) gradient tubes and exposed to either As(V) or As(III). Bacterial growth and related Fe(III) oxides were analyzed with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) combined with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometry (EDS), and used for 16S rRNA gene clone library preparation.
To test the effect of SO42- amendment on As dissolution into the porewater, a greenhouse experiment was set up with rice plants grown in single pots on rice field soil from Carpiano (MI) (containing 30 mg kg-1 of As). Different pots with and without plants and with and without 0.13 % (w/w) calcium sulfate (CaSO4) amendment were installed. Microbial As genes were quantified with RT-qPCR in

bulk and rhizosphere soil. In a similar experiment performed using rice field soil from Vercelli, the genome belonging to a new putative SO42--reducing species of the Nitrospirae phylum was isolated from a metagenomic library by differential genome binning. The phylogenetic affiliation of this species as well as its metabolic features were characterized by the analysis of specific marker genes and expressed proteins.
In continuous flooding, active DFeRB, As(V)-reducing and sulfur-oxidizing bacteria were stimulated, potentially contributing to the release of As into the porewater. The RT-qPCR quantification confirmed that DFeRB belonging to the genus Geobacter significantly increased when rice was cultivated under continuous flooding, in concomitance with a significant increase of As in the porewater over time. This supported the hypothesis that Geobacter, by dissolving Fe(III) minerals, promoted As solubilization. In aerobic rice, genera able to oxidize Fe(II) and/or As(III) were selected. Quantification with RT-PCR confirmed that aioA genes, encoding for As(III)-oxidase, were among the most abundant As genes, increasing when drainage was applied before flowering and in aerobic rice. In Fe(II) gradient tubes, As(V) promoted the enrichment of the nitrate-reducing FeOB genus Azospira from roots developed under continuous flooding, whereas As(III) addition inhibited the growth of FeOB. The SEM-EDS analysis revealed the presence of microorganisms covered by putative Fe encrustation as well as As-Fe oxides crystals. FISH analysis on rice rhizoplane confirmed the presence of FeRB belonging to the family Geobacteraceae and of both microaerophilic and nitrate-reducing FeOB, respectively belonging to the family Gallonellaceae and to the genus Thiobacillus.
The addition of SO42- to rice field soil led, on the one hand, to a lower As release into the porewater, on the other hand, to a lower translocation of the metalloid in the plants. The bulk and rhizosphere soil bacterial community was enhanced by the addition of SO42-, but the abundance of genes involved in As transformation did not change significantly. The analysis of a genome retrieved in a metagenomic library prepared on rice bulk and rhizosphere soil from a similar SO42--addition experiment, revealed the presence of a novel species belonging to the Nitrospirae phylum in Vercelli rice field soils. These microorganisms carry the whole genetic background for dissimilatory reduction of SO42- and nitrate. Through the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway, they likely use acetate as electron donor. Amendment of SO42- in the soil promoted the expression of SO42- respiration, whereas in the control treatments genes for nitrate respiration were expressed.
These outcomes confirm and elucidate the role of the microbial community living in the rhizosphere of rice plants in decreasing As solubility when changes on the water regime are applied. Future research should be focused the possible role of endophytic bacteria on the decrease of As translocation when is rice plants are fertilized with SO42-.

The central challenge that humanity is facing is the need to meet the nutritional needs of a growing population. After the tremendous progress achieved during the green revolution, the yields of the primary cereal crops are now stagnating and the undergoing climatic changes represent a further threat. Among the technologies available to allow a further increase in yield, genetic improvement is the most promising. Plant breeding, though, is an expensive, time consuming and labour- intensive activity which relies on a thorough knowledge of the available germplasm for its efficient exploitation requiring the integration of the phenotypic expression with molecular data.
The analysis of the interactions between genetic makeup, pedo-climatic conditions and management practices is thus essential to guide breeding programs aimed at improving the agronomic traits of the main herbaceous crops. Crop simulation modelling can be used to support such activities, via a cost- and time-efficient analysis of the performances of a wide range of phenotypes in different weather, soil and management conditions. The requirement is the minimum deviation between the phenotypic expression and its model representation, which should consider the known physiological limits and compensatory effects among traits.
The lack of an extensive characterisation of available germplasm often impedes the availability of exhaustive data to support breeding programs via crop modelling. This applies to Italian rice agriculture, being characterized by a long history of cultivation with a vast varietal landscape. Crop model-based studies and services have already been developed in the area to support rice growers and local stakeholders, thus outlining a proficient case study for their implementation in breeding programs.
This doctoral project aimed at analysing the morpho-physiological characteristics of the Italian rice germplasm mostly contributing to the yield increase in the 20th century, highlighting the evolutionary trends, and the associations with published molecular data. The released information enlarges previous findings and can be used to guide genetic improvement programs aimed at further improve current rice varieties. The field experimental activity produced ready-to-use quantitative data to further refine crop modelling capabilities in the area. Their integration in a crop model study allowed correlating yield component traits and model parameters, fostering the design of synthetic cultivars to facilitate and prioritize new breeding efforts.

The aim of this essay, far from any ambition to be exhaustive, is to recall the path of construction and evolution of an autonomous trade union and labour culture, within Italian trade union pluralism, such as that which gave rise to the CISL (Confederazione Italiana Sindacati Lavoratori). The text starts from the early 1950s and traces some fundamental and evolutionary aspects of this confederation. The text recalls the characterising ideas and founding values of the union founded by Giulio Pastore and analyses how these aspects were gradually translated into concrete representation and protection of workers through contractual, organisational and training dimensions.

Storytelling is the process of using fact and narrative to communicate something to the audience. The first approach to storytelling takes place as children, with the dual purpose of imagining a space-time different from reality, and secondly that of establishing contact with one’s parents, who are required to commit themselves daily, to transmit values and teachings. Popular myths and legends perform four functions that allow human beings to understand themselves, others, the mysteries of life and the universe that surrounds them (Atkinson, 2002). These functions are: − the psychological function: it helps the person to define himself more clearly thanks to the possibility of reordering and deciphering experiences; − the social function: allows the person to understand what he has in common with others and what distinguishes him; − the cosmological-philosophical function: it supports the person in having a clearer vision of her role in the world, − the mystical-religious function: it allows the person to feel awe, wonder, humility and gratitude towards the mysteries that surround them. More and more small and large companies are engaging in a marketing activity called content marketing, considering the idea that storytelling is the key to attracting and retaining customers, especially in culturally far-away markets. Storytelling marketing is a description where the company combines the company’s identity with the company’s philosophy to create a product or service activity (Salzer-Morling & Stannegard, 2004). In fact, with the global financial crisis of 2009, investors reduced their investments in communication, especially the budget allocated to television (-3.1% in 2011). Conversely, the internet grew (+12.3%) (Nielsen, 2012). But how to communicate a product to a different culture not sharing the same ideas, symbols, actions and dispositions of the company? This study aims to analyze which strategies have been applied in the storytelling of typically “Made in Italy” food products and representative of the Italian gastronomic heritage towards Asia. Briefly, the research aims to answer the following questions: RQ 1: Which strategies have been adopted by small-medium-large enterprises in order to promote Italian products into culturally distant markets? RQ 2: Which strategies are effective, in order to be considered also for future business? The research is therefore based on an analysis of the literature on storytelling as a marketing strategy and then goes on to observe some case studies.

The biomechanical overload disorders of the musculoskeletal system are constantly increasing in Italy and became the most reported occupational diseases to INAIL (Italian Workers’ Compensation Authority). Some sectors, such as agriculture, health and crafts, generally show a particular rise of these diseases while other sectors (such as fishing) are still struggling to bring out the work-related diseases. The Apulia Region included in the Regional Plan for Prevention 2010 - 2012 initiatives in order to secure a better understanding of the tools both for the assessment of risk due to the biomechanical overload of the musculoskeletal system and for the prevention of the diseases related to them. This approach allowed us to collect items of interest in order to better know the ergonomic risk in Apulian agriculture and to define the future prevention policies.

The archaeological landscape of Nucetto’s Castle (Piedmont, Italy): a possible conservationEach fortified architecture has its own specificities thanks to which defend the territory, it is usually part of garrison systems and has always been a protagonist of the events of the place where it was built. Through this reading can be interpreted the ruins of the Castle of Nucetto (CN, Italy), which insist on the land of Alta Valle Tanaro –mostly located on the south-east portion of Cuneo’s territory and in a little part of Savona’s one– as real landmark visible from the historical road axis of the valley. The castle’s ruins became part of the consolidated image of the landscape thanks to the union they generated with the context giving rise to a recognizable landscape. The castle is part of a wider defensive system intimately linked to the history of the Marquisate of Ceva. Despite the still uncertain reliability of the documents available, the original structure can be dated at the eleventh century. The presence of bands of hanging arches that run along some elevated of the structure allow to hypothesize and recognize a first foundational nucleus while some traces of frescoes rise to appreciable particularities during the visit. The tower, whose base is in brick, but the top part is curiously in stone, is today the best preserved. The paper aims to analyze the fortification –made with different materials– to understand the extent of the historical stratifications found in the presence of at least two expansions dating from the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, up to the nineteenth-century destruction wanted by Napoleon. It is also the author’s will to propose some suggestions for a possible conservation, starting with an analysis of the state of today's storage (outcome of very limited consolidation interventions operated twenty years ago) to arrive at its insertion in more valuation circuits wide.

The rise of new interactive, digital and connected objects is bringing about significant transformations in our world, generating new ways of living and new channels of access to communication. The healthcare sector is one of the sectors most affected by this digital revolution.Gerontechnology, a relatively recent field of research, studies the interaction between increasing longevity combined with a decreasing birth rate and the development of emerging healthcare technologies (Bouma et al., 2007; Chen, 2020).Therefore, from a theoretical point of view, digital health technologies (wearable devices, social media, robotics, smart devices, virtual technologies, etc.) can support successful ageing (van Bronswijk et al., 2009; Lee et al., 2020), but in practice, the results achieved do not live up to the expectations of elderly users, as the elderly population is less able to access new technologies as they are less open to innovation (Loges & Jung; 2001; van Dijk & Hacker, 2003; Manchester & Jarke, 2022).The EU's 2022 report (European Commission, 2022) on the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) places Italy 18th among the 27 EU Member States, which can be attributed to the relative lack of literacy of the Italian elderly population, although, compared to 2021, Italy gained two points (20th place). In order to limit the Grey Digital Divide, gerontechnology design in recent years has been influenced by the anthropocentric approach, a design approach that places the elderly within the design process (Baker et al., 2019; Vines et al., 2015; Wallace et al., 2020) considering them as a social resource and not as frail, sick and dependent. Design, and in particular the Human-Centred Design approach, can play a crucial role both in understanding the needs of the elderly population and in translating these needs into digital products that are more suitable and relevant to their purpose. For these reasons, in this article we introduce the first results of the research carried out by the Ergonomics and Design Lab. (LED) of the University of Florence within the research programme "Age-It Ageing well in an ageing society", an extended partnership financed within the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Funded by the Italian Government with the European funds Next Generation Eu Mission 4 "Education and Research" Component 2 "From Research to Enterprise"). The Age-It programme, in which 25 partners, including Universities and Research Centres, participate, is led by the University of Florence and consists of 10 spokes. LED researchers are involved in spoke 9, which aims to study advanced gerontechnologies for active and healthy ageing. The objective is therefore to reduce the digital divide between generations through the development of design guidelines that can help the elderly to use digital health technologies consciously and safely.The article will discuss the research questions, method, results and future developments.

The use of synchrotron radiation for the analysis of samples of historical and artistic importance (archaeology, palaeontology, conservation sciences, palaeo-environments) has been increasing over the past years, and experiments related to the study of our cultural heritage (CH) have been routinely performed at many beamlines of Elettra, the Italian synchrotron radiation facility. Fundamental parameters such as the high photon flux, the small source size and the low divergence typical of synchrotrons make it a very efficient source for a range of advanced spectroscopy and imaging techniques, adapted to the dishomogeneity and complexity of the materials under study. The continuous tunability of the source (from infrared to X-rays) is essential for techniques based on a fine tuning of the probing energy to reach high chemical sensitivity such as XANES, EXAFS, STXM, UV/VIS spectrometry. Moreover, the small source size attained in the vertical plane leads to spatial coherence of the photon source itself, giving rise to a series of imaging methods already crucial to the field. The increasing number of scientific publications shows that microfocused hard X-ray spectroscopy (absorption, fluorescence, diffraction), full-field X-ray tomography and infrared spectroscopy are the most popular synchrotron techniques in the field. The Elettra laboratory now offers a platform dedicated to CH researchers in order to support both the proposal application phase and the different steps of the experiment, from sample preparation to data analysis. We will present this activity and the main instrumental setups and experimental techniques in use at Elettra, and describe their impact for the science being applied to ancient materials using synchrotron rad
