After being in service for nearly 20 years, the Illinois Accelerated Pavement Tester (I-APT) was upgraded to provide enhanced capabilities for accelerated pavement testing. In addition to a new control system, the improvement included a newly designed load carriage, which allows for testing with a tandem half-axle, axle yaw, and shear loading (breaking and accelerating).
