The Reformed tradition has struggled to engage sufficiently with the history and theology of Mary, the mother of Jesus, mainly consigning her to the Roman Catholic tradition. Reformed scholarship must redeem Mary’s contribution to the church by retrieving her biblical and historical narrative to address this deficit. Comparing the Mary of the historical record of the New Testament with the portrayal of her that developed into an inflated Marian vision in subsequent centuries reveals marked differences between them. Mary’s historical and biblical story depicts her as a picture of faith, obedien

The way in which a culture understands itself and its relationship with the sacred shapes not only religious life, but also a way of being in the world. The same can be said in the opposite direction: the religious sphere can be captured in some anthropomorphism to justify a position that excludes. Taking this premise into account, we can look at the position of women in the early church, the roles they played, and how and why the relevance of their performance was minimized through misogyny that occurs in different contexts of Christianity as a historical construction. By misogyny we understa

The article's focus is the way a theological appreciation of Mary can enrich Reformed theology. I will argue that it can do so in the following three ways: (1) Mary is a prime example of faith, an ideal servant of the Lord, and in a sense the mother of all believers; (2) Mary reminds us of God’s faithfulness to the Jewish people, and wards off gnostic heresies; (3) Mary is a symbol of Christianity that has often been misused, but can be put to a good use, and reflection on Mary helps to steer clear of one-sided approaches of the position of women and furthers Reformed reflection on gender. Abstract I make three claims about the interactions between concept mastery and the knowledge argument. First, I argue that, contra Ball (2013), the concept mastery response to the knowledge argument does not suffer from the heterogeneity of concept mastery. Second, I argue that, when doing metaphysics by relating propositions on the basis of whether a hypothetical agent who knew a base collection could infer a target proposition, it is legitimate to rely on propositions that are not contained in the base, as long as those propositions are required for mastery of relevant concepts. One upshot
