There have been many complaints from aircraft passengers regarding the cabin comfort level during flight. One of the main cabin aspects that influence the level of passenger comfort is identified as the passenger seat. In this study, the representative of the current aircraft seat design is evaluated against anthropometry data of Malaysians. This is done to establish whether there is any mismatch between the seat design and the anthropometry of the Malaysian passengers such that it contributes to the low cabin comfort experiences. This has been proven by modern, comfortable trains with good on-board service, high speed, and fewer quality shortcomings. One serious threat is that high ticket prices limit demand. Abstract Seat frames in commercial vehicles generally consist of components such as foot brackets, seats, back, head restraints and fasteners. In addition to mechanical properties, comfort is another important parameter. This study aims to reduce the cost of a commercial vehicle by means of alternative materials and design changes in the passenger seat frame. For this purpose, three different methods were used to optimize seat back pipes: reducing the cross-section, using thinner sections in the seat frame via alternative material and making design changes in the foot brackets. This chapter discusses about a prototype of Driverless Train Operation (DTO) mode. In DTO, driving is controlled and monitored automatically, without human assistance. A train attendant can intervene in emergencies. The automatic driving system takes care of the departure, the movement between two stations, and the automatic and precision stopping of the train and opening of the doors. If required, the door is automatically opened again. When passenger volume is high, additional trains are automatically sent into operation straight from the depot at the push of a button. The driverless metro train in our work is basically an embedded system based framework, which is designed to provide solutions for smooth a human machine interface while controlling high speed metro train using automated actuation and regulation mechanisms. In this work, the modeling of the metro train is done in a more precise way using an AVR microcontroller.

Resumo:
Retractable hydrofoils may enhance performances of seaplane during take-off and landing runs by lowering the speed when the hull is leaving or touching water surface. Hydrofoils are designed to complement airlift with additional hydrodynamic lift elevating the hull above the water at a speed lower than take-off speed; this minimizes slamming phenomenon on the hull, improving seakeeping capability of the seaplane, since water impacts are minimized compared to conventional configuration and, as a consequence, forces and accelerations on airframe, crew and passengers are reduced. This is of foremost importance on ultralight seaplanes, where wave forces acting on the relatively small aircraft mass provide high accelerations and significant roll, pitch and yaw forces that are higher on light aircraft compared to heavy seaplanes. As matter of facts, clear advantage of this configuration is the increase of sea state when a light seaplane can safely fly, providing additional useful days along the year. Important benefit is the improvement of seaplane performances during take-off and landing, reducing duration of the most critical flight phases, increasing overall safety and reducing pilot workload. Further benefits are envisioned, with optimization of wing, empennage and fuselage to minimize aero-drag and, as snow-ball effect, mission fuel consumption and energy power requirements. Life-cycle cost receives benefits too, since less water spray is ingested by engine and less water droplets impinge on fast revolving propeller, thus reducing expensive power plant maintenance cost over the entire service life.

A frontal impact scenario was simulated using a Finite Element Model of a Hybrid III 50th percentile male (LSTC, Livermore CA) along with seatbelt, steering system and driver airbags. The boundary conditions included acceleration pulse to the seat and the outputs including injury measures in terms of Head Injury Criterion (HIC), Normalized Neck Injury Criterion (NIJ) and Chest Severity Index (CSI) were extracted from the simulations. The kinematics of the Hybrid III were validated against the kinematics of post mortem human surrogates (PMHS) available in the literature. Using the validated set

Resumo:
It is important to understand human kinematics and muscle activation patterns in emergency maneuvers for the design of safety systems and for the further development of human models. The objective of this study was to quantify kinematic behavior and muscle activation in simulated steering tests in several realistic conditions. In total 108 tests were performed with 10 volunteers undergoing purely lateral maneuvers at 5 m/s2 deceleration or simulated lane change maneuvers at 5 m/s2 peak acceleration and peak yaw velocity of 25 °/s. Test subjects were seated on a rigid seat and restrained by a 4
