AbstractThe credit unions-COAC are societies of natural people which are authorized by law to carry out financial intermediation and through its financial and non-financial products respond to the problems of their partners with economic, financial, social and environmental efficiency. Therefore, the purpose of this research is aimed at determining whether besides financial practice it is developed good social management practices and whether they measure and report the results to its stakeholders. In this research the situation of cooperatives is described, analyzing the implementation of social management methodologies, which are necessary but not well known yet. For this purpose, it relies on direct information of cooperatives and review of information from secondary sources, organizations such as: International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) today Cooperatives of the Americas, Superintendence of Popular Economy and Solidary, the existing agencies of cooperative integration in Ecuador, among others. The investigation determined that such solidarity companies privilege the issues of control and supervision of the financial part rather than the social one, which moves away from the fulfillment of their role and social objective.

Although worker cooperatives offer an organizational model that critical management scholars could adopt to demonstrate the utility of their normative ideals, little is known about how academia can contribute to the creation of worker cooperatives. Building on the concept of performativity and the case of the Technological Incubators for Popular Cooperatives in Brazil, we provide an account of constructing incubators for worker cooperatives across multiple universities. Our study uncovers the challenges that scholars face in performing the model of worker cooperatives by cognitively embedding actors within both economic and cooperative principles through teaching. Our results clarify the role of feedback loops, knowledge circulation, and the building of ‘chains of translation’ in the concrete manufacturing of worker cooperatives, and we show how universities can help develop a multilevel, flexible, and complex support network that enhances the performativity of the worker cooperative model. We advance the concept of a ‘critical performativity engine’ to describe the process whereby the first method for incubating cooperatives was developed and then translated across settings.

Despite popular misconceptions, cooperatives present a very successful organizational form worldwide. A recent study found that in the U.S., for example, 134 agricultural cooperatives celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2014. This observation on cooperative longevity is not matched by a corresponding research effort on what makes cooperatives so successful. Most of the extant research seems to focus on intra-cooperative problems that posit significant challenges to cooperatives. This special issue of Sustainability bridges the considerable gap between scholarly work and reality. By focusing on what makes cooperatives so successful for such a long period of time, this issue sheds light on key aspects of cooperative longevity. Bridging social capital, fundamental solutions to excessive heterogeneity-induced high ownership costs, tinkering, cooperative genius, and superior capacity to adapt to shocks and changes are among the factors identified to explain extended cooperative longevity. The insights thereby gained are useful to students of cooperatives, practitioners, and policy makers.

Objective: This research analyse the link between popular cooperatives incubators and the University through the extension activity. Methodology / Approach: The methodology applied is a case study at INCOOP-UFSCar in order to evaluate how the Cooperative contributes to the development of the actors in the University. Originality / Relevance: Activities with prospective co-workers generate joint socio-economic benefits for co-workers and academics, but the benefits to the University have scarcer assessments. Main results: The Incubator, as an extension project, can be considered a mean of operationalizing the role of the University vis-a-vis the community in which it is inserted, meeting local demands and also serving as locus in the academy development. Theoretical / methodological contributions: In this study, it is observed that the Incubadora Regional de Cooperativas Populares (INCOOP) positively impacts not only cooperators but also contributes to the development of extension activities of Federal University of Sao Carlos (UFSCar) students and administrative technicians.

France and Germany are examples of countries where agriculture is an important part of the economy, there is a large number of farms and the cooperative movement is very popular. In the European Union there are over 22 thousand agricultural cooperatives. The article presents statistical data and legal regulations concerning agricultural cooperatives in France and Germany, in particular, the French Code Rural and the German Genossenschaftsgesetz. In conclusion the author states that the Polish legislature, creating a new model of cooperative law, should unquestionably draw on the experience and some legal solutions implemented in Germany and France, and in particular introduce a broad definition of agricultural cooperatives, a simplified procedure of their formation and functioning, financial instruments, including tax, and rules on merging cooperatives with other cooperative entities or companies.

The article is devoted to the most popular segment of the global cooperative sector – consumer cooperation. Based on the definition of specific features of this type of cooperation, a special dynamism and adaptability of consumer associations in solving vital social problems and implementing the UN sustainable development goals is shown. The author asserts that the significant growth rates of the world consumer cooperation are determined by the lack of conditionality of its development by the formation of material prerequisites and to a greater extent depend on the organization of information and propaganda work to promote cooperative "self-help". Analysis of world experience has shown that an important factor in the growth of the cooperative movement is the exchange of practices between cooperative organizations on the planet. Being a public organization by nature, consumer cooperation is an essential part of civil society. The analysis and dissemination of international experience in consumer cooperation play a significant role in the activation of civil initiative in self-organization.

The Cooperative Medical Scheme (CMS) was popular in rural China in the 1960s and 1970s, having garnered praise from the World Bank and World Health Organization as an unprecedented example of a successful health care model in a low-income developing country. However, the CMS almost collapsed in the 1980s. Based on its historical origins and main activities, we think the CMS functioned as a health cooperative rather than a health insurance scheme. Perhaps, however, the importance to the CMS of cooperation between institutions has been overestimated. Overlooked, yet equally important, has been the cooperation between health workers and farmers to target health-related risk factors associated with agricultural work and ways of life. The ‘cooperative’ character of the CMS includes two aspects: cooperative institutions and cooperative behaviour. Although the CMS collapsed in China, similar schemes are flourishing elsewhere in the world. In the future, in-depth analysis of these schemes is required.

Abstract. In the current socio-economic, political and institutional conditions, primarily in the context of new challenges and threats (such as sanctions restrictions, natural disasters, epidemics and pandemics), which determine high instability in the activities of agricultural producers, particular importance in the development of the agricultural economy, rural communities and rural areas moves to agricultural cooperation. As retrospective studies prove, agricultural cooperatives always become particularly popular in the most difficult periods for agriculture (and the economy as a whole), extremely actualizing at this time the corresponding theoretical and applied research. The study and analysis of scientific works concerning current state of agricultural cooperation, its problems and potential in improving of agricultural production and harmonious development of rural areas allows us to conclude that, Despite the presence (in the review materials presented to the scientific community) of the evolution of cooperative thought and generalizing discussions on the theory of cooperation descriptions, the achievements of recent years, nevertheless, did not find a detailed reflection in them. The purpose of this work is to summarize the most meaningful results of world-class research on the activities of agricultural cooperatives in a fluctuating (sometimes turbulent) environment, which are relevant (and acceptable) for the development of Russian cooperative practices in the face of existing challenges and threats. Results. A survey-analytical study, the results of which are presented in this article, made it possible (through a thorough analysis of the achievements of the cooperative theory over the past five years) to formulate and scientifically substantiate the main components of a new (integrated, interdisciplinary) approach to the development of Russian agricultural cooperation in the current institutional and market context, the basic elements of which are (1) taking into account the peculiarities of the socio-economic and institutional environment, (2) the multifunctionality of cooperative activities, (3) the specifics of ways to create cooperatives in different countries and spheres of activity, (4) the limitations of traditional and the prospects of new organizational models of agricultural cooperatives. Scientific novelty. The article offers a detailed review of foreign and Russian studies on various aspects of agricultural cooperation, notable by a rich history and comprehensive discussions, substantiated a new concept for the development of modern agricultural cooperatives, formulated conclusions that have theoretical novelty and applied value for use in domestic economic practice.

PurposeThe objective of this research is to analyse the affective organizational commitment in cooperatives in Ecuador. This was done by adapting and testing a measurement scale based on the one-dimensional model proposed by Porter.Design/methodology/approachField work was carried out, with a structured questionnaire being given to a significant sample of workers in Ecuadorian cooperatives (2,499 employees and heads of department). The scale was adapted through a structural equation model.FindingsThe results show that the adaptation of the measuring scale for affective organizational commitment using a one-dimensional vision is consistent for the cooperative sector. In addition, the analysis of the socio-demographic variables and the work position show that some of them have a statistically significant relationship with organizational commitment.Practical implicationsThe proposed scale can contribute to the management of human capital in cooperatives in Ecuador. It can also be used as a tool to support the national agency in charge of the cooperative sector in this country (Superintendencia de Economía Popular y Solidaria, “Superintendency of Popular and Solidarity Economy”). By applying this tool, social economy organizations in Ecuador can measure the level of their employees' affective commitment with the institution they work in. Using the results, the people in charge and the leaders of the organization shall be able to introduce strategies to develop this organizational variable that is crucial for the proper management of human resources and, therefore, to help to obtain the institutional purposes.Originality/valueThis research project presents a measuring tool that can discover the unique features of the cooperative sector in a developing country such as Ecuador as it provides a special framework for managing human resources in this sector. Additionally, in a cooperative organization many employees have different roles in the same company. This tool can be adapted for other kinds of cooperatives with different activities (financial and non-financial activities) in different sectors.

The literature on the changing nature of fair trade suggests it is indeed evolving and changed from the grassroots movement it once was. One of the strongest arguments that comes out in this body of literature is that the message, values, and way fair trade can encourage positive socio-economic and community development is changing. What the scholarship does not address, though, is how this evolution is changing the way that fair trade is perceived? The answer to this question about the changing perceptions of fair trade can be extended to those who produce fair trade products, those who consume them, those market them, those who manage them, and those institutionally organize the movement and certification criteria. My study attempts to gain insight on how fair trade is perceived among the producers (farmers) of fair trade. Although there are many studies about the impact of fair trade on cooperatives of producers/farmers, there is one voice that seems to be missing: the voice of the producers themselves. My work with the CADO Sugar Cane Cooperative in the state of Cotopaxi, Ecuador attempts to fill this gap. I executed a three-week research project in which I interviewed administration of the cooperative as well as the sugar cane farmers themselves about their perceptions and understanding of fair trade. Broadly, I was able to conclude that majority of producers in this community were involved with fair trade because of the steady income, and the cooperative became fair trade certified with the incentive of a large contract with a buyer-a buyer that required a fair trade certified product. These two points bring up a very important question: where is the concern for the human development aspects that fair trade champions (education, economic development, health, etc.)? In this project I will address the implications that my findings have on how we understand the fair trade model in terms of social movement theory and the concept of fair trade as free trade.

The topics relating to Latin American social housing requirements, has historically been a priority for governments social policies in such countries. In Uruguay, one of the programs promoted by the public sector to satisfy the demand for social housing to lower-income households, has been a venture managed by solidarity cooperative organizations. These cooperative organizations voluntarily associate families with a common housing need, to provide housing solutions through such a social and cultural organization called Housing Cooperative, which is shared ownership and democratically managed. For cooperative launch, the role played by social organizations and the government are crucial, particularly in process efficiency through which, the goal of social housing solutions can be achieved for involved families. This is the study purpose of this thesis, that intends contribute to public management processes improvement to enable housing cooperatives construction. Specially, the research goal is focused on a new approach for the state management process in Cooperative Housing projects, figured out as a Product Process Development, generating value in public actors’ interactions, seeking quality improvements opportunities for such projects. To meet this purpose, process loss value related to wasted time, were identified by process modeling tools, including benchmarks and value stream maps. The impact of time and information issues in loss value was investigated from the cooperative projects end-users point of view. The research was a case study approach and it was divided in two descriptive stages called phases. Phase A was aimed to describe the processes and define criteria for case-study selection. In Phase B was conducted the case studies properly, seeking to distinguish using different data and evidence source, the perceived value within the analyzed process. The main findings relate to the lack of overall process understanding. This vision successfully allows identify perceived creation or loss value, and non-value generation potential in these processes, mainly in social processes. Flow value loses in processes value stream were detected in time and quality of information issues. Given the results, actions are proposed for future value flow map improvement, as well as proposals for short and medium term acting in the main identified variables.

The objective of this piece of work A Teaching Cooperative Approach in Popular Music Education - CLEMP is to demonstrate aspects of methodological contents of collective learning of music and using rock bands performance in school classrooms. This survey has been based on oral history statements of teachers, staff and students from the Technical School of Sao Paulo, Brazil CEFET, which were used to compile the history of the school and the evolution of their teaching methods as well as the analysis of the growth and improvement of musical skills of 13-16-year-old students attending the first year of Junior High School in 2007. The theoretical reference used to support the ideas contained in this piece of work derived from two schools of psychology: the significant learning of Ausubel, and the social-interactive approach of Vygotsky. The methodological procedure is the qualitative and participative research and selecting three aspects: the explanatory - to provide greater familiarity with the problem; the descriptive - to identify a group of students establishing their personal relationship with their instrument; and finally, the explanatory - to identify the factors that truly contributed to the musical improvement of the team as a whole. This work has made possible important links among the students having a great musical experience and the ones with little experience thus representing their first teamwork interaction which brought them a sense of happiness, friendship and pleasure in learning under a cooperative and natural environment - the appropriate scenario for rock bands musical production and performance.

The present work tried to analyze the identity of the cooperative worker in a communal and fraternal work organization; identify aspects which will characterize cooperative labor relations, as well as the dimensions involved in the cooperative identity and the changes experienced after the insertion into the cooperative; analyze the value given to the mother cell during incubation. Qualitative research was made, which consists of a case study, with a longitudinal cut, using a multi methodological study. Four sources of data collection were employed: description of macro-environment of the region, through fast estimate and analysis of secondary data from the 2000 year Census; documental analysis; focus groups; interactive observation. Twenty cooperative African Brazilian women participated, all of them living in the region of the Suburban Train Area of Salvador. The content and argumentative analysis was chosen. It was understood that the socialization processes to the work of the cooperative women were diverse, and all of the workers had their first professional cooperative experience in COOPERCONFEC. Becoming a cooperative worker involved five main relations and distinct impacts: with the mother cell (provisory technical and financial support), with the community (value of the location), with clients (professionalism), with pairs (collective identity), and with themselves (increase in the self-esteem). One of the main conclusions is that being a cooperative worker from COOPERCONFEC takes five dimensions into consideration, with distinct focus on the group relations: psycho-social (emphasis on the mutual help), organizational (emphasis on the feeling of belonging to a work organized group), rational (emphasis on the middle-endings relation), politicaleconomical (emphasis on the distribution of power and of credits), and legal (emphasis on the institutionalization of the group), although there were variations on the focus. It was observed, finally, that the identity of a cooperative worker is a complex and multi faced phenomenon. It will continually be rebuilt throughout the trajectory of the members of the cooperative.

The central subject of this thesis is the educational dimension of a popular cooperative. This study aims to comprehend the actions of work and survival permeated by cooperative or competitive behaviors between members of popular cooperatives. The present research investigates a popular cooperative as an educational environment that is able to generate a citizen culture, to influence conceptions and behaviors, moreover it can provide and promote the transforming conditions in human being relations in a free and responsible way. Educational dimension is taken here as the association of relationships that build values. It is represented in the preparation and transformation of people cooperatively organized, according to the cooperative doctrine framework, to Paulo Freire and others. Concerning methodological approach, it was predominantly qualitative. The documents and interviews were analyzed through case study research of an enterprise that integrates the Extension Program of Federal University of Paraná related to the Technological Incubator of Popular Cooperatives. In order to identify the categories of educational dimension of popular cooperatives were chosen the sources connected to the case study used, in this case, Cooperativa de Embalagens Brasil (COEMBRA). For that, there was an attempt to capture the cooperative principles and values adopted in the world, the integrated management of the popular cooperatives first incubator as well mission and goals of the Paranaense Incubator. In this context it is possible to conclude that despite of failure in the economic dimension and incubation process problems, the popular cooperative was certainly able to raise and develop its ideal assimilation in its members, reflecting positively on their work and lives. This experience has influenced people because it has broadened their horizons; they were taken to think their lives and their relations in the world over, individual and collectively. They rescued their solidarity ideals and hopes; the will of taking new paths, searching a better life. They have been motivated by an institution inaccessible to them before: the university.

Abstract: Disclosing the reality of male and female workers, aged 50+, in people¿s cooperatives located in the city of Campinas, SP; this was the object of study of this research; besides a reflection on aging in the work and productivity world. The methodology used is based on a quantitative-qualitative approach. In the first moment a socio-economical mapping of the workers was developed; therefore, we had a gathering of data of every cooperative in the study (quantitative). In a second moment, we identified the social representations which these people had of themselves ¿ as workers who are getting older in the people¿s cooperative ¿ and of the own work in cooperative environment, and as a result, we identified the wishes and needs which make such participants to search for work in this alternative system of production. The results allow us to analyze the reality where the participants of the studied people¿s cooperatives live. In the research of social representations, we developed a comparative study between a refuse material recycling cooperative, which does not require any schooling type, and a sewing cooperative, with women with higher level of schooling. We noticed that in the analysed categories in production field, schooling and gender are extremely relevant to define the differences in the social representations found. In a general way, the aging is valorized by its physical aspects and health loss, but in reality it can be softened by the idea of continuing being productive through the work

It is observed, on the current context of capitalist society, the manifestation of a growing scale of cooperatives enterprises based on self-management. Emerged and developed on labour movement in the mid-nineteenth century, on a perspective of fairest and more egalitarian society, with socialist base, this kind of working organization has been adopted (and adapted) by the movement of Social Economy after the crises circumstance around the decade of 1970. The voluntary character of adhesion to collective enterprises becomes implicated on economics’ crises context, on which the possibilities of occupations are reduced. Therefore, a large number of people join enterprises inattentive to their ideological project. The purpose of this research is to systematize information about the rotating of members on a worker cooperative, which has ten years of existence, 327 members and 271 ex-members. The lack of a stable working staff members can confer to the cooperative enterprise a palliative working character, bringing to it series of problems. Through documental analyses and interview with the actual and ex-members, it was observed variables that could be related to the high rate of rotating of members. The little time of permanence as members in a cooperative and the preference to the jobs which have an employ bond represent a significant influence on the rotating of members. According to the research, it was indicated some factors that could support the permanence of the members on the enterprises for a prolonged period of time, in which they could get more actively involved and absorb in a better way the proposal of the enterprises

Abstract: This research aimed to understand how to develop the knowledge about management in a Technological Incubator of Popular Cooperatives (ITCP), at the University of São Paulo (USP) from the phenomenon and the theory of social representations, considering the influence of epistemic tensions and between rationalities. This is a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews with trainers and cooperatives involved in the process. As a theoretical and epistemological framework, the contribution of Edgar Morin and Boaventura Santos in the critique of modern science were highlighted, as well as the contributions of Serge Moscovici, Guerreiro Ramos and Mauricio Serva in relation to the social representations and tensions (between epistemic and rationality). We sought to understand how the epistemic tensions and between rationality affect management knowledge developed during the incubation process. The analysis of data from the field work indicates that the main social representations of the incubation process are based on the training and empowerment by the trainers, and as a consulting on the part of the cooperatives. A second point occurs at the epistemic tension, fostered from the relation between the trainers and cooperatives, theory and practice, trainers and cooperative, dialogical positioning, formation of groups, lack of cooperativeness on the part of the cooperatives, skills trainers and methodology. The tension between rationality develops from the clash between values and goals and economic aspects. The conclusions are given in the direction of the various tensions in the incubation process are marked by dichotomies. We conclude that the epistemic tensions and between rational and substantive rationalities are not only interrelated, but are at the core of the obstacles of the incubation process of popular cooperatives. We argue that overcoming such barriers depends on a critical, dialogical, based on an emerging paradigm, complex, which implies the adoption practices of multi-, inter-and transdisciplinary (so increasingly complex). Without adequate structuring incubators popular cooperatives, without a substantive training of trainers, tensions tend to reproduce themselves, as obstacles not overcome.

Resumo:

By their very nature, attempts by civil society organizations to promote democracy abroad involve cooperation and contact across the borders of nation states. The dissemination of the ideas and practices of the promoters is often essential; in the case of Swedish democracy promotion, popular education or folkbildning has been important.

This thesis investigates the dissemination of ideas and practices by civil society organizations in Sweden and Estonia in the field of popular education. More specifically, a number of projects run by member organizations of the Swedish study association ABF (Workers’ Educational Association) and member organizations of the Estonian AHL (Open Education Association) are studied. These projects are also part of democracy-promoting activities whose funding comes mainly from Swedish donor agencies. The thesis aims to understand not only what has been spread but also how ideas and practices have been translated to fit the Estonian context. The primary theoretical concept used is therefore translation, even though one aim of the thesis is to systematize the field of study concerning processes of dissemination and to enrich the concept of translation with the aid of previous work on diffusion and socialization.

The main contribution of the thesis consists of the in-depth study of cooperation between Swedish and Estonian popular education organizations. It also contributes to the theoretical development of the concept of translation by identifying different phases in this kind of process and important elements of these phases. Popular education is an important part of Swedish democracy promotion and this study also contributes to this rather undertheorized subject, and also to the discussions of transnational civil society cooperation, by demonstrating an analytical framework that can be of use in future research into these issues.

Abstract Horse-related events have been popular in Iceland for many decades, as well as in other countries. Such events attract many people that are both enthusiastic about and involved in horse-related activities. The biggest horse event in Iceland since 1950 has been the National Championships of the Icelandic Horse - Landsmót - which enables the owners of the best horses in Iceland to come together and compete in various categories. Landsmót is organized by the Icelandic Equestrian Association (Landssamband hestamannafélaga [National Association of Equestrian Associations], referred to as LH) and the Farmers Association of Iceland in cooperation with local horse clubs that act as hosts for Landsmót. In this chapter, the Landsmót events held in the years 1998-2008 are studied from a strategic management point of view. The chapter looks into the lessons learnt from the events, based on a four-dimensional approach to strategic management. The main goal of the research, which was completed in 2010, was to bring forward important knowledge and information on the Landsmót events that could be used in the strategy and the development work for upcoming events over the following years. The study of Landsmót 1998-2008 was based on a case study method. Six cases were studied from an illustrative and explorative point of view. The study also made use of focus groups, interviews, questionnaires and document analysis. The study concluded that Landsmót as a biennial event is a celebration of success in breeding and training of the Icelandic horse. Landsmót is also a social gathering, uniting people who are dedicated to the Icelandic horse, both within Iceland and from abroad. The study also concluded that Landsmót is about competition and ranking of the best horses, while at the same time it is an event true to tradition and family activity. Finally, the main conclusions reveal that Landsmót is very important for marketing and communication of the qualities of the Icelandic horse.

Chapter 20 discusses public–private partnerships (PPPs) between government and major corporations. Generally, in PPPs the government sets the task and agrees the fee, while the private sector does the work and incurs the costs whilst receiving a contractually agreed profit. The project is normally building a major infrastructure facility. This arrangement has been very popular in the UK until recently, as well as in many other countries. In the USA a strong lobby is advocating the increased use of PPPs to update the country’s infrastructure. The chapter notes that the idea of public–private partnership is a good one in principle, but that scandals of excess profits (and sometimes losses) can result from deficiencies in negotiation and implementation. The chapter also considers success criteria for PPPs and concludes that they vary according to the political situation and hence motivation in the country in question.

This chapter details how the growing dependence of the Mexican state on credit contributed to the rise of a domestic “bankers' alliance” made up of financial elites and orthodox technocrats who gradually found their position strengthened as the crisis deepened, allowing them to effectively sideline the national-popular wing of Mexico's one-party regime. The strengthened position of these groups led to the steady internalization of fiscal discipline into the Mexican state apparatus, ensuring continued debt servicing and a cooperative stance vis-à-vis foreign creditors even in the absence of outright external impositions. This turn toward compliance was eased by the fact that popular opposition to continued debt servicing remained relatively muted due to the cooptation of the main labor and peasant organizations and the absence of powerful popular mobilizations against austerity.

Value function decomposition (VFD) methods under the popular paradigm of centralized training and decentralized execution (CTDE) have promoted multi-agent reinforcement learning progress. However, existing VFD methods proceed from a group's value function decomposition to only solve cooperative tasks. With the individual value function decomposition, we propose MFVFD, a novel multi-agent Q-learning approach for solving cooperative and non-cooperative tasks based on mean-field theory. Our analysis on the Hawk-Dove and Nonmonotonic Cooperation matrix games evaluate MFVFD's convergent solution. Empirical studies on the challenging mixed cooperative-competitive tasks where hundreds of agents coexist demonstrate that MFVFD significantly outperforms existing baselines.

Implementation of cohesion policy, as the major EU budgetary chapter, is subject to vast scholarship. Therefore, surprisingly enough, the principal-agent (P-A) framework has received little recognition in this academic field so far. The present paper contributes to the expansion of this increasingly popular approach also into cohesion scholarship by examining the operation of Information and Consultancy Centres (ICC) in Slovakia. The major finding shows limits of the P-A framework by suggesting that instead of a mutual conflict, it is a cooperative mode dominantly shaping dynamics of P-A relations due to the shared goals and interests. ICC operations and relations with the Government are interpreted via observational equivalence and ceremonialism as the recognized P-A framework tools.

Crawler cranes are the most expensive and frequently shared resource on construction sites, industries, etc. It is engaged in offering various combination for booms and large-capacity of mobile cranes to meet the building industry requirements. Computer simulation has proved to be an effective tool for aiding practitioners in modeling complex construction operations, especially three-dimensional simulation that can provide interactive, three-dimensional graphics. As a graphic standard, OpenGL has powerful three-dimensional graphic processing abilities, but is weakness in three-dimensional modeling. Bounding Hierarchical Volumes Tree (BHVT) is very popular structures for objects storage of virtual scenes. Based on BHVT, a method of three-dimensional modeling is proposed. According to its structure and characteristics, the model of the crawler crane is designed. To achieve three-dimensional simulation for a main hoisting crane and an assistant crane (i.e., sliding tail crane) cooperative lifting, several typical mathematical models are established. When simulating the lifting process in the cooperative working mode, the changes of cranes and the lifting equipment, needed for steady lifting, are figured out simultaneously, and then those changes are output to form the relevant curves. The curves are analyzed to decide whether the lifting plan that using a main hoisting crane and a sliding tail crane to lift is safe and reasonable. For the sake of a better interactive simulation, object-oriented framework for three-dimensional graphic creation based on OpenGL is developed, it consists of class BHVTNode, class camera and class renderer, which make data and instructions separated. Combining the class camera and class renderer with the technology BHVT, succeed to simulate the lifting operations of crawler crane, especially achieve the animation of the cooperative lifting, it is visual to observe the whole lifting process, which is good for assisting to design the lifting plan.

As a means of demonstrating compliance with the United States Code of Federal Regulations 10CFR50 Appendix A, General Design Criterion 4 (GDC-4) requirement that primary piping systems for nuclear power plants exhibit an extremely low probability of rupture, probabilistic fracture mechanics (PFM) software has become increasingly popular. One of these PFM codes for nuclear piping is Pro-LOCA which has been under development over the last decade. Currently, Pro-LOCA is being enhanced under an international cooperative program entitled PARTRIDGE-II (Probabilistic Analysis as a Regulatory Tool for Risk-Informed Decision GuidancE - Phase II). This paper focuses on the use of a pre-defined set of base-case inputs along with prescribed variation in some of those inputs to determine a comparative set of sensitivity analyses results. The benchmarking case was a circumferential Primary Water Stress Corrosion Crack (PWSCC) in a typical PWR primary piping system. The effects of normal operating loads, temperature, leak detection, inspection frequency and quality, and mitigation strategies on the rupture probability were studied. The results of this study will be compared to the results of other PFM codes using the same base-case and variations in inputs. This study was conducted using Pro-LOCA version 4.1.9.

Adsorption refrigeration systems are characterized by a lower coefficient of performance than the compressor type device or even absorption, but can utilize waste heat at lower temperature. The aim of the study was to determine which external parameter has the greatest impact on the efficiency of the adsorption device. As a result of experimental studies there was found that this is not the temperature of the feed but particularly the temperature of external air. For this reason, it is recommended that the adsorption device should cooperate with evaporative spray coolers, instead of with popular dry coolers. This solution will increase annual efficiency of adsorption unit approx. by 25% and significantly reduce the costs of cold generation.

The Polish film system is characterized by a variety of forms. Michał Zabłocki, the author of the comprehensive study of the «Organization of the production of feature film in Poland», isolates two models of world cinema: a producer and a producer – director. The first one features the dominant role of the producer, which means the person who is responsible for the work of all the film departments – direction, cinematography, production management, scenography and costume design. The second one, the model which is still the most popular in Poland, assumes close cooperation between the producer and the director.

There is growing consensus that political factors are a key determinant of development impact. The practice of Thinking and Working Politically (TWP) is built around three interconnected principles: (i) strong political analysis, insight, and understanding; (ii) detailed appreciation of, and response to, the local context; and (iii) flexibility and adaptability in program design and implementation. The literature notes that while TWP emphasises the centrality of politics and power, technical knowledge is still important and can reinforce the political agenda, for example by increasing the confidence of smaller states or by strengthening collective understanding. Furthermore, improving the quality of domestic cooperation can be a step towards regional cooperation, and flexible engagement with the diverse range of actors that populate transboundary settings has been shown to be an effective strategy. The literature also highlights lessons learned including Transboundary cooperation can be built from the bottom up and for development partners, pre-existing bilateral partnerships may facilitate their engagement at a transboundary level, particularly on sensitive issues. Given the relatively isolated experience of TWP in transboundary settings, the evidence base for this report is also limited. The two areas where most examples were found concern regional integration and transboundary water management.
