The structure and thermal properties of external walls affect both the thermal conditions inside the building and the energy demand. This applies to the energy requirement for heating as well as cooling. While the relationship between thermal insulation and heating is well-known, the effect of thermal insulation on overheating is not evident. One can find opinions that thick thermal insulation creates a “thermos effect” and significantly deteriorates the comfort conditions during the summer. In order to prove these statements, an office room with south-oriented glazing and a high thermal load

Abstract. State regulations on the design of lighting in residential buildings in recent years have undergone significant changes, which in turn will significantly affect the architecture and energy efficiency of modern buildings of this type. This can be observed from the authors' analysis of the change in only one regulatory document given in this article – SCS (State Construction Standards) V.2.5-28: «Natural and artificial lighting» and only one lighting indicator: permissible deviation of the calculated value of CNL (coefficient of natural lighting) from the standardized value when choosi

When renovating an existing building, keeping the original window and installing added convex window is beneficial for the reduction of heating energy demand. This solution is free of the disposal and/or recycling of demolition waste. In the summer season as far as the transparent structures of the building are concerned, in general, heat protection has to be used. In the case of the added convex window, it can be provided by the external air curtain mode; the movable shading device is in the buffer zone. Brazil ranks 4th in the world for occupational accidents. There are more than 700 thousand occurrences per year, which cost the country about R$10 billion. The objective of this study is to identify technologies, related to the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases, that are not protected in Brazil. We used Patent2net, a computational data mining tool, to evaluate worldwide patents deposited in the Espacenet database. Employing a technometric research approach, a Patent2net case study was carried out by analyzing over 1,600 occupational safety and/or occupational disease patents de

The damaging effects of intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) on the gut and remote organs can be attenuated by subjecting the intestine to a prior, less severe I/R insult, a process known as preconditioning. Because intestines of hibernating ground squirrels experience repeated cycles of hypoperfusion and reperfusion, we examined whether hibernation serves as a model for natural preconditioning against I/R-induced injury. We induced intestinal I/R in either the entire gut or in isolated intestinal loops using rats, summer ground squirrels, and hibernating squirrels during natural interbout ar

Data are presented on the average daily milk yield of cows during the mass abundance of horseflies, mosquitoes and midges depending on the technology of keeping animals in the Tyumen region. Keeping the cows during this period without grazing on the walking grounds at the farm is one of the methods of preserving their milk productivity. During the period of mass flight of gnats, the milk productivity of cattle grazing in forest pastures is significantly reduced. Loss of milk during this period is 13.68%, while the longer the harmful effects of the vulture, the more significant these losses.

This paper proposes a sensorless procedure to estimate the induction motor speed and the dependable heat contents of the stator and rotor sides. The proposed procedure is based on the electrical models of a three phase Induction Motor (IM). The motor electrical models for normal and abnormal will be discussed and a technique is introduced for accommodating frequency dependent skin effect of the rotor resistance using a simple proposed speed estimation algorithm. The electrical models are customized from the positive and negative sequence networks. The speed detection is based on the rotor para

Therefore, quality and endurance of these elements is important to avoid losses when an expensive laboratory equipment would not be protected from random overvoltages. Additionally, excessive leakage currents generate serious costs due to high energy consumption. The humoral immune response of roach (Rutilus rutilus) to cercariae of the digenean trematode, Rhipidocotyle fennica, was studied. Antibodies against R. fennica were found in wild roach in lakes where fish are infected by the parasite. Antibody levels were higher in sera collected in September than in sera collected in June, due to infection of R. fennica during the late summer. In experimental aquarium studies, roach immunized with homogenized cercariae produced antibodies against R. fennica. An especially strong response was elicited by infecting fish with living cercariae emerging from infe

Just UVB causes 50-90% of skin cancer and especially affects children, adolescents and older people. Textile screens are the simplest and most effective means to protect against the negative effects of UV radiation (UVR). Usually, white cotton and linen fabrics are used for summer clothes. Results of spraying with Grumman AgCat and DC-4G aircraft are presented. These results were compared with those obtained with formulas of B. thuringiensis used in the past at 4.7 L/ha.
