Objective: Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) software applies standardized algorithms to hospital administrative data to identify patient safety indicators (PSIs). The objective of this study was to assess the validity of PSI flags and report reasons for invalid flagging. Material and Methods: At a 6-hospital academic medical center, a retrospective analysis was conducted of all PSIs flagged in fiscal year 2014. A multidisciplinary PSI Quality Team reviewed each flagged PSI based on quarterly reports. The positive predictive value (PPV, the percent of clinically validated cases) was calculated for 12 PSI categories. The documentation for each reversed case was reviewed to determine the reasons for PSI reversal. Results: Of 657 PSI flags, 185 were reversed. Seven PSI categories had a PPV below 75%. Four broad categories of reasons for reversal were AHRQ algorithm limitations (38%), coding misinterpretations (45%), present upon admission (10%), and documentation insufficiency (7%). AHRQ algorithm limitations included 2 subcategories: an “incident” was inherent to the procedure, or highly likely (eg, vascular tumor bleed), or an “incident” was nonsignificant, easily controlled, and/or no intervention was needed. Discussion: These findings support previous research highlighting administrative data problems. Additionally, AHRQ algorithm limitations was an emergent category not considered in previous research. Herein we present potential solutions to address these issues. Conclusions: If, despite poor validity, US policy continues to rely on PSIs for incentive and penalty programs, improvements are needed in the quality of administrative data and the standardized PSI algorithms. These solutions require national motivation, research attention, and dissemination support.

Abstract The experiment was conducted on a 4-year-old commercial stand in Grand Terrace, CA. Experiment design was a randomized complete block with 3 replications. Each plot contained 4 trees. Average tree height was 5.5 ft. Treatments were applied with a Solo® knapsack sprayer using a hollow cone nozzle at 32 psi, and a 100 gal/acre spray rate. Nantucket pine tip moth damage was estimated by randomly selecting 40 terminals per tree (10 in each compass direction) and recording the number of damaged and healthy tips. Insecticides were applied on 2 Jun, 5 Aug, and 30 Sep, and damage evaluations were made on 11 Jul, 9 Sep and 28 Oct.

Abstract The study was conducted on mature trees located at the LSU Citrus Research Station, Port Sulpher, LA. A randomized complete block design was used with 4 replications per treatment (individual trees served as plots). Each plot was surrounded by 4 untreated trees to serve as a buffer between treatments. Pesticides were applied on 15 Jun ’83 with a FMC Speed Sprayer operated at 1200 RPM and 250 psi and a 4 nozzle hand gun. Trees were sprayed until runoff (approx 2.5 gal/tree). Evaluations were made on 29 Jun and 13 Jul by randomly selecting 10 leaves per tree as follows: 2 leaves from each of the 4 compass directions and 2 from the center of the tree. Leaves were taken to the lab, examined under a stereo-microscope, and the number of mites recorded.

Abstract The test was conducted on 2-yr-old ‘Nonpareil’ almond trees in a commercial orchard near Shaffer, CA. A randomized complete block design composed of 12 blocks was established in the orchard. Each block contained 1 single-tree replicate of each of the 10 treatments. Treatments were applied on 23 Jul ’82, with a high pressure hand gun which delivers a fine spray at 400-450 psi. The trees were sprayed to runoff with an avg of 7.5 gal of dilute spray per tree, resulting in an application rate of ca 700 gal/acre. Five sample leaves were taken from each of the 4 compass quadrants of each tree, inside and outside of the canopy at heights of 3 to 6 ft, for a total of 20 leaves per tree. The samples were counted under a dissecting microscope. Only 6 of the 12 blocks were sampled on the pretreatment and 1 day posttreatment sample dates. Data for all other sample dates are based on counts from 12 blocks.

Although only 50 liters of pesticide was applied per acre, pesticide concentrations were calculated at a rate of 378 liter per acre so as to simulate concentrations used for a mature stand. Evaluations were made on 19 Oct and 13 Nov by randomly selecting 10 leaves per tree as follows: 2 leaves from each of the 4 compass directions and 2 from the center of the tree. Leaves were taken to the lab, examined under a stereo-microscope, and the number of mites recorded.

Let $G$ be a compact connected Lie group and ${\rm Aut}(G)$ be the group of Lie automorphisms of $G$. We describe a condition on $G$ under which topological conjugacy of the flows on $G$ induced by two one-parameter subgroups $\phi$ and $\psi$ of ${\rm Aut}(G)$ implies conjugacy of $\phi$ and $\psi$ in ${\rm Aut}(G)$. The condition is verified for $Sp(n)$, $SO(2n+1)$ and ${\rm Spin}(2n+1)$.

AbstractIn van Benthem (2008), van Benthem proposes a dynamic consequence relation defined as ${\psi _1}, \ldots ,{\psi _n}{ \models ^d}\phi \,{\rm{iff}}{ \models ^{pa}}[{\psi _1}] \ldots [{\psi _n}]\phi ,$ where the latter denotes consequence in public announcement logic, a dynamic epistemic logic. In this paper we investigate the structural properties of a conditional dynamic consequence relation $\models _{\rm{\Gamma }}^d$ extending van Benthem’s proposal. It takes into account a set of background conditions Γ, inspired by Makinson (2003) wherein Makinson calls this reasoning ‘modulo’ a set Γ. In the presence of common knowledge, conditional dynamic consequence is definable from (unconditional) dynamic consequence. An open question is whether dynamic consequence is compact. We further investigate a dynamic consequence relation for soft instead of hard announcements. Surprisingly, it shares many properties with (hard) dynamic consequence. Dynamic consequence relations provide a novel perspective on reasoning about protocols in multi-agent systems.

Stephen Braude’s editorial “Does Telepathy Threaten Mental Privacy” speaks to one reason some people might resist accepting the reality of paranormal abilities. It is somewhat of a puzzle why so many otherwise rational people shy away from psi. If we accept telepathy, it might seem we’re exposed to others snooping on our innermost secrets and intentions. Deploying a distinction made by C. D. Broad between telepathic cognition and telepathic interaction, Braude argues that our fear of telepathic intrusion is greatly exaggerated. I, for example, often think of someone just before he or she calls on the phone. When that happens, I have no knowledge of what the caller is going to tell me, No cognition, just a bit of interaction. Telepathic connection doesn’t necessarily imply telepathic cognition. No danger of your hidden self being exposed in most common forms of telepathy. There are, however, some examples where it looks like real telepathic cognition comes into play. In the early stages of 17th century Joseph of Copertino’s career as a priest, his superiors had to ask Joseph to desist from calling the brothers out in public for every peccadillo they committed. In a typical example cited, he embarrassed a brother for thinking about eating cherries and other things while saying his prayers. His superiors urged Joseph to be more discreet and say things like—“you need to adjust your moral compass.” Joseph did learn to be more discreet but his Vita shows him repeatedly tuning into the specifics of other minds. For example, he was able to distinguish persons who came merely to observe him out of curiosity. Let me quote one sworn deposition from a Brother Francesco that illustrates telepathic cognition.

In a more general statement,this problem for the classes of smooth and atalytic functions defined on various compact manifolds can be found in the classical paper byG.G. Magaril-Il'yaev, K.Y. Resumo:

The main crux of this manuscript is to establish the existence of mild solutions for a class of semilinear $\psi-$Caputo-type fractional evolution equations in Banach spaces with non-local conditions. The proofs are based on some fixed point theorems, compact semigroup and some basic concepts of $\psi-$fractional analysis. As application, a nontrivial example is given to illustrate our theoretical results.

This problem arises in the study of long waves trapped by the shore and by bottom irregularities. For its asymptotic solutions as λ → ∞ \lambda \rightarrow \infty , explicit formulas are given when D ( x ) D(x) has a special form that guarantees the complete integrability of the Hamiltonian system corresponding to the Hamiltonian H ( x , p ) = D ( x ) p 2 H(x,p)=D(x)p^2 . Since the problem is degenerate, the relevant Liouville tori are not in the standard phase space T ∗ Ω T^*\Omega , but in the “extended” phase space Φ ⊃ T ∗ Ω \mathbf {\Phi }\supset T^*\Omega , while their restrictions to T ∗ Ω T^*\Omega are not compact and “go to infinity” with respect to momenta near the boundary of Ω \Omega . As a result, nonstandard caustics emerge, formed by the boundary or its part, near which asymptotic eigenfunctions are expressed in terms of a Bessel function of composite argument. Standard caustics (within the domain) may also appear, which yield Airy functions in the asymptotics.

Abstract A new BPD-PSI line-type plasma simulator is introduced. The device features two vacuum units: a target unit and an electron gun unit, connected to each other by a water-cooled electron beam transport channel. The Pierce-type electron gun is used to generate stationary or pulsed electron beam, utilized for beam-plasma discharge generation. The plasma electron density can be varied in the range of n e = 1 × 1016 - 1 × 1018 m-3 with electron temperature in the range of T e = 1-20 eV. The ion flux of 1 × 1021 m-2 s-1 and heat fluxes up to 5 MW m-2 are obtained. A set of utilized plasma and plasma-surface interaction diagnostics are described. Five demonstration experiments are presented: 1) high vs low power beam-plasma operation, 2) beam-plasma discharge with/without presence of an external magnetic field, 3) incident ion flux composition analysis, 4) incident ion energy distribution function measurement, 5) in-situ target surface temperature control and in-vacuo thermal desorption spectroscopy measurement. All of the technical features of the setup described in this paper make it a new tool for studying plasma-surface interactions.

Les résultats obtenus forment une étape vers une démonstration de la conjecture de Langlands pour$F$, qui ne fasse pas appel à la géométrie des variétés modulaires, de Shimura ou de Drinfeld.

Linear plasma devices have been increasingly applied in investigating plasma–surface interaction (PSI) processes and divertor/scraped-off-layer (D/SOL) physics because of their economy, flexibility, and expandability. However, only a few existing linear plasma devices are able to obtain high heat and particle fluxes. In this work, we report a compact superconducting linear device, with its scientific goals and specific design methods, at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), HIT-PSI, capable of implementing an extreme plasma environment with beams of a long discharge pulse, as well as high heat and particle fluxes in the future fusion reactor regime of ITER/CFETR-like parameters. A five-coil integrated superconducting magnet is designed to generate a >2.0 Tesla steady-state magnetic field for confining a long pulse plasma beam with a density of >1020 m−3 produced by a cascaded arc plasma source. With a pump set of 2500 L/s and a water-cooled target system with bias voltage, it is expected to obtain high-density and low-temperature plasma beams with a heat flux of over 10 MW/m2. Subsystems of the platform, including the plasma source, superconducting magnets, vacuum system, and target holder system, are described in detail. In addition, the function and performance of the platform are numerically simulated and represented by SOLPS-ITER code to predict the laboratory simulation results.

For a locally compact group $G$ with left Haar measure and a Young function ${\rm\Phi}$, we define and study the weighted Orlicz algebra $L_{w}^{{\rm\Phi}}(G)$ with respect to convolution. We show that $L_{w}^{{\rm\Phi}}(G)$ admits no bounded approximate identity under certain conditions. We prove that a closed linear subspace $I$ of the algebra $L_{w}^{{\rm\Phi}}(G)$ is an ideal in $L_{w}^{{\rm\Phi}}(G)$ if and only if $I$ is left translation invariant. For an abelian $G$, we describe the spectrum (maximal ideal space) of the weighted Orlicz algebra and show that weighted Orlicz algebras are semisimple.

Furthermore, we extend Uψ to a bounded operator on M(ω1) with range in L1(ω2) ⊕ ℂδ0, where M(ω1) is the weighted space of locally finite, complex Borel measures on ℝ+. Finally, we show that the zero operator is the only weakly compact generalized Hardy–Cesàro operator from L1(ω1) to L1(ω2).

Abstract. Nine Pandora spectrometer instruments (PSI) were installed at eight sites in South Korea as part of the KORUS-AQ (Korea U.S.-Air Quality) field study integrating information from ground, aircraft, and satellite measurements for validation of remote sensing air-quality studies. The PSI made direct-sun measurements of total vertical column NO2, C(NO2), with high precision (0.05 DU, where 1 DU =2.69×1016 molecules cm−2) and accuracy (0.1 DU) that were retrieved using spectral fitting techniques. Retrieval of formaldehyde C(HCHO) total column amounts were also obtained at five sites using the recently improved PSI optics. The C(HCHO) retrievals have high precision, but possibly lower accuracy than for NO2 because of uncertainty about the optimum spectral window for all ground-based and satellite instruments. PSI direct-sun retrieved values for C(NO2) and C(HCHO) are always significantly larger than OMI (AURA satellite Ozone Monitoring Instrument) retrieved C(NO2) and C(HCHO) for the OMI overpass local times (KST=13.5±0.5 h). In urban areas, PSI C(NO2) 30-day running averages are at least a factor of two larger than OMI averages. Similar differences are seen for C(HCHO) in Seoul and nearby surrounding areas. Late afternoon values of C(HCHO) measured by PSI are even larger, implying that OMI early afternoon measurements underestimate the effect of poor air quality on human health. The primary cause of OMI underestimates is the large OMI field of view (FOV) that includes regions containing low values of pollutants. In relatively clean areas, PSI and OMI are more closely in agreement. C(HCHO) amounts were obtained for five sites, Yonsei University in Seoul, Olympic Park, Taehwa Mountain, Amnyeondo, and Yeoju. Of these, the largest amounts of C(HCHO) were observed at Olympic Park and Taehwa Mountain, surrounded by significant amounts of vegetation. Comparisons of PSI C(HCHO) results were made with the Compact Atmospheric Multispecies Spectrometer CAMS during overflights on the DC-8 aircraft for Taehwa Mountain and Olympic Park. In all cases, PSI measured substantially more C(HCHO) than obtained from integrating the CAMS altitude profiles. PSI C(HCHO) at Yonsei University in Seoul frequently reached 0.6 DU and occasionally exceeded 1.5 DU. The semi-rural site, Taehwa Mountain, frequently reached 0.9 DU and occasionally exceeded 1.5 DU. Even at the cleanest site, Amnyeondo, C(HCHO) occasionally exceeded 1 DU.

Let $M$ be any compact Riemann surface of genus $g\ge 2$. It is first established that there do not exist on $M$ any generic low- degree simple polar variations of branched affine structures having fixed nonpolar and polar branch data and fixed induced character homomorphism $\tilde \psi$. Hence, these structures depend uniquely on the branch data and the homomorphism. A related result is also established concerning the nonexistence on $M$ of generic low-degree single-point variations of branched affine structures having fixed homomorphism $\tilde \psi$. These resuits depend on the Noether and Weierstrass gaps on $M$. Corollaries are derived concerning mappings induced by sections of vector bundles of affine structures and concerning structures on an arbitrary hyperelliptic or elliptic ($g =1$) surface $M$.

Abstract We study integral operators $\mathcal{L}u\left( \chi \right)=\int{_{_{\mathbb{R}}\mathbb{N}}\psi \left( u\left( x \right)-u\left( y \right) \right)J\left( x-y \right)dy}$of the type of the fractional p-Laplacian operator, and the properties of the corresponding Orlicz and Sobolev-Orlicz spaces. In particular we show a Poincaré inequality and a Sobolev inequality, depending on the singularity at the origin of the kernel J considered, which may be very weak. Both inequalities lead to compact inclusions. We then use those properties to study the associated elliptic problem $\mathcal{L}u=f$in a bounded domain $\Omega ,$and boundary condition u ≡ 0 on ${{\Omega }^{c}};$both cases f = f(x) and f = f(u) are considred, including the generalized eigenvalue problem $f\left( u \right)=\lambda \psi \left( u \right).$

SummaryIt has been demonstrated that formation of compact plasma fibrin clots resistant to plasmin-mediated lysis characterises patients following instent thrombosis (IST). The relationship between defective fibrinolysis, reflected as prolonged clot lysis time (CLT) and IST is unclear. We sought to investigate whether patients with acute and subacute IST have impaired fibrinolytic capacity. We studied 41 definite IST patients, including 15 with acute and 26 with subacute IST experienced 2–73 months prior to enrollment, versus 41 controls matched for demographics, cardiovascular risk factors, concomitant treatment and angiographic/stent parameters. CLT, reflecting lysis of a tissue factor-induced plasma clot by exogenous tissue plasminogen activator, together with plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) antigen and activity, thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) antigen and activity, thrombomodulin (TM), plasminogen and α2-antiplasmin (α2AP) were measured. There were no inter-group differences in angiographic parameters, indication to the first PCI, culprit vessel or a type of stent. Patients with IST had 11% longer CLT (p=0.005) and 13% higher PAI-1 antigen (p=0.04) compared to controls. There were positive correlations in both groups between CLT and PAI-1 antigen and TAFI activity (all p<0.001). Multiple regression analysis showed that CLT (odds ratio [OR]=1.04 per 1 minute, 95% CI 1.01–1.08, p=0.02) and platelet count (OR=1.01 per 1,000/μl, 95% CI 1.00–1.02, p=0.034) were independent predictors of IST (R2=0.28, p<0.05). Concluding, impaired fibrinolytic potential, that is in part determined by plasma PAI-1 antigen and TAFI activity, characterises patients with a history of acute and subacute IST, which might help identify patients at higher risk of IST.

Composting has been considerably recognized as a viable management method for solid organic wastes aimed at recycling of its end-product as a potting substrate for ornamental plants. Pelargonium and Salvia as salt-sensitive plants were grown in the mixture of compost (75, 50, 25% by volume) and additives (Hygromull, Cocofiber and SPS-standard soil type 73 with 70% peat and 30% clay). Since plants may suffer from a high salt content, thus in a further experiment compost was added as a partial substitute for peat. The results of the first pot experiment reveal that the large percentage of compost in the substrate had negative effects on plant growth and nutrient uptake (N, P, K and Na). Both yield formation and nutrient uptake significantly increased and almost gained levels of those in the control in the second pot experiment when plants were grown in peat-based substrates. Especially, the growth of Salvia was significantly improved. Consequently, the compost-based media (> 50% volume of compost) cannot be recommended for salt sensitive ornamental plants, while less than 25% of compost incorporated into peat creates peat-based substrates which reasonably enhanced growth of Pelargonium and Salvia.

The platform use embedded Linux operating system to control high-speed and data acquisition. Users can manage data remotely by developing the data acquisition card driver and application software.

Information on the availability of P following compost addition to soil may help to a better management of P fertilization of the crop in respect to plant growth and the environment. Therefore a greenhouse experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of compost within the official classes of stability III and V on growth and P exploitation of ryegrass (Lolium perenne L. cv. Turilo). The following result was obtained: As compared to a control without P application, compost application resulted in a significant yield increase. Application of composts of the official class of stability V resulted in higher yields as compared with the application of compost of the official class of stability III. P uptake of ryegrass was higher in the treatments in the class of stability V. Based on CAL-extractable compost P exploitation of P ranged between 8.5 and 104.0% in the first year of compost application and in total (sum of two years) 37.8 and 204.5%. P exploitation on the basis of total compost P ranged between 3.6 and 22.1%.

AbstractWe prove the existence and uniqueness of maximizing measures for various classes of continuous integrands on metrizable (non-compact) spaces and close subsets of Borel probability measures. We apply these results to various dynamical contexts, especially to hyperbolic mappings of the form $f_\lambda(z)=\lambda\mathrm{e}^z$, $\lambda\ne0$, and associated canonical maps $F_\lambda$ of an infinite cylinder. It is then shown that, for all hyperbolic maps $F_\lambda$, all dynamically maximizing measures have compact supports and, for all $0^+$-potentials $\phi$, the set of (weak) limit points of equilibrium states of potentials $t\phi$, $t\nearrow+\infty$, is non-empty and consists of dynamically maximizing measures.

Our main result is the co-compactness of the minimally displaced set of an irreducible automorphism with exponential growth $$\phi $$ ϕ , under the action of the centraliser $$C(\phi )$$ C ( ϕ ) . The aim of this study was to quantitatively evaluate alloplastic Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Prostheses against other treatment modalities regarding the jaw kinematics. Six patients with Temporomandibular Joint Prostheses, four with mandibular ramus Patient-Specific Implant (PSI) with condylar head preservation, and four after mandibular condylectomy were evaluated by the means of axiography (Cadiax Compact 2), which is the noninvasive three-dimensional study of condylar movements. The patients were also evaluated clinically for the mandibular movements. The study revealed that the significant movement limitations occurred bilaterally in patients fitted with TMJ prosthesis. For the protrusion movement, the vector length of the movement (L) for the TMJ prosthesis was 0.31 vs. 3.01 mm for the PSI (Kruskal–Wallis chi-squared = 9.1667, df = 2, p-value = 0.01022, post hoc Dunn p-value = 0.015) and for the laterotrusion to the operated side, the length of the vector (L) was 0.66 vs. 3.35 mm, respectively. Statistically significant differences between groups were most frequent for the laterotrusion to the unoperated side. The study shows that a further development on TMJ Prostheses geometry and materials is needed.

<abstract>This paper deals with a well known open problem raised by Kannan (Bull. Calcutta Math. Soc., 60: 71–76, 1968) and B. E. Rhoades (Contemp. Math., 72: 233–245, 1988) on the existence of general contractions which have fixed points, but do not force the continuity at the fixed point. We propose some new affirmative solutions to this question using two new contractions called $ (\psi, \varphi) $-$ \mathcal{A} $-contraction and $ (\psi, \varphi) $-$ \mathcal{A^{\prime}} $-contraction inspired by the results of H. Garai et al. (Applicable Analysis and Discrete Mathematics, 14(1): 33–54, 2020) and P. D. Proinov (J. Fixed Point Theory Appl. (2020) 22: 21). Some new fixed point and common fixed point results in compact metric spaces and also in complete metric spaces are proved in which the corresponding contractive mappings are not necessarily continuous at their fixed points. Moreover, we show that new solutions to characterize the completeness of metric spaces. Several examples are provided to verify the validity of our main results.</abstract>

Biocompost has been identified as an alternative to chemical fertilizers that increased soil microbial population and soil enzyme activities in sustainable farming. The results show that among nine treatments given, the application of Suaeda compost in combination with farmyard manure and phosphate solubilising bacteria (T9) significantly increased the soil microflora such as bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes and soil enzyme activities such as dehydrogenases, alkaline phosphatase, cellulase and urease in soil cultivated with Arachis hypogaea.

Recent concerns over the environmental impact of peat harvesting have led to restrictions on the production of peat based potting substrates. Therefore the objective of our study was to evaluate the use of compost and biogas residues without and each with 20% additives (Perlite, Styromull, Hygromull, Lecaton, Peat, Cocofiber) as a substitute for peat. Ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), chosen as an experimental plant, was cut four times. The results reveal that compost and biogas residues are suitable potting substrates. The incorporation of additives mixed into the basic materials partly resulted in higher yield and nutrient uptake. However, the difference among additives was mainly insignificant. Incorporation of Hygromull, especially into biogas residues favored plant growth and increased the uptake of nutrients, which is attributed to the fact that Hygromull stores nutrients and delivers them even later in the growing season. Furthermore Hygromull reduces the salt concentration of the medium, resulting in favored plant growth of younger plants.

The effect of the application of compost and cow manure on nectarine (Prunus persica L.) root growth and survivorship was investigated in a commercial orchard during the growing seasons 2003, 2004 and 2005. Our main objective was to determine whether compost affects root dynamics differently than cow manure. The experiment was a complete randomized block design with four replicates of two treatments: cow manure and compost applied at planting in 2001 at 10 t dry weight (DW)/ha and from 2004 at the rate of 5 t DW/ha. The compost fertilization represented a yearly rate of 120 kg N/ha, while cow manure was approximately 80 kg N/ha/year. Both root growth and survival were evaluated at 20-day intervals during the growing season by the minirhizotron technique. Cow manure increased the production of new roots compared with compost (P ≤ 0.001). Roots were mainly produced at a depth of 21–40 cm for compost and 61–80 cm for cow manure. The root lifespan was longer in compost than in cow manure treated trees (P ≤ 0.05) and was strongly affected by depth. No differences were observed in root length and diameter.

The aim of the study was to determine how soil contamination with diesel oil affected biochemical properties of soil and to determine whether the application of compost, bentonite or lime could recover the biochemical equilibrium of soil. The experiments were carried out in a greenhouse. Typical Eutric Cambisols soil formed from sandy loam was polluted with the following amounts of diesel oil: 2.5, 5.0 and 10 cm3/kg of soil. The results of the tests showed that the contamination of soil with diesel oil at the amount between 2.5 and 10 cm3/kg of soil disturbed the biochemical balance of soil. Irrespective of the application of compost, bentonite or lime and regardless which plant species was grown, diesel oil significantly (p = 0.01) stimulated the activity of dehydrogenases, urease, and alkaline phosphatase as well as the nitrification of soil. Enrichment of soil with compost, bentonite or lime stimulated the activity of urease, alkaline phosphatase and nitrification. The activity of dehydrogenases, urease and nitrification of soil, in contrast to the activity of acid phosphatase, was higher in soil under spring oilseed rape than in soil under oats. The activity of dehydrogenases, urease, alkaline phosphatase in soil contaminated with diesel oil was positively correlated with the nitrification of soil. The correlation between the activity of acid phosphatase and soil nitrification was negative.

Let $G$ be a locally compact group with a fixed left Haar measure. In this paper, given a strictly positive Young function ${\rm\Phi}$, we consider $L^{{\rm\Phi}}(G)$ as a Banach left $L^{1}(G)$-module. Then we equip $L^{{\rm\Phi}}(G)$ with the strict topology induced by $L^{1}(G)$ in the sense of Sentilles and Taylor. Some properties of this locally convex topology and a comparison with weak$^{\ast }$, bounded weak$^{\ast }$ and norm topologies are presented.

Non-standard analysis is used to give a new intuitive proof of the Amir–Cambern result that if $\|T\|\hskip1pt\|T^{-1}\|\lt2$, then there is a homeomorphism $\psi:Y\to X$. The approach provides a proof of the following representation theorem for such near-isometries:$$ Tf=(T1_X)(f\circ\psi)+Sf, $$with $\|S\|\leq2(\|T\|-(1/\|T^{-1}\|))$, so $\|S\|\lt\|T\|$. If $\|T\|\hskip1pt\|T^{-1}\|=1$, then $S=0$, giving the well-known representation for isometries.

We describe the design and the capabilities of the Photospheric Magnetic field Imager (PMI), a compact and lightweight vector magnetograph, which is being developed for ESA’s Lagrange mission to the Lagrange L5 point. After listing the design requirements and give a scientific justification for them, we describe the technical implementation and the design solution capable of fulfilling these requirements. This is followed by a description of the hardware architecture as well as the operations principle. An outlook on the expected performance concludes the paper.

Abstract Let {\phi:G\rightarrow H} be a group homomorphism such that H is a totally disconnected locally compact (t.d.l.c.) group and the image of ϕ is dense. We show that all such homomorphisms arise as completions of G with respect to uniformities of a particular kind. Moreover, H is determined up to a compact normal subgroup by the pair {(G,\phi^{-1}(L))} , where L is a compact open subgroup of H. These results generalize the well-known properties of profinite completions to the locally compact setting.

Introduction In peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, volume overload is related to cardiac dysfunction and mortality, while intravascular volume depletion is associated with a rapid decline in the residual renal function (RRF). This study sought to determine the clinical usefulness of bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS)-guided fluid management for preserving RRF and cardiac function in PD patients. Subjects and methods This is a multicenter, prospective, open-label study that was conducted over a 1-year period (NCT01887262). Non-anuric (urine volume > 500 mL/day) subjects on PD were enrolled. Subjects in the control group received fluid management based on the clinical information alone. Those in the BIS group received BIS-guided fluid management along with clinical information. Results The subjects ( N = 137, mean age 51.3 ± 12.8 years, 54% male) were randomly assigned to the BIS group ( n = 67) or to the control group ( n = 70). There were no significant differences between the 2 groups with regard to age, sex ratio, cause of kidney failure, duration of PD, baseline comorbidity, RRF, PD method, or peritoneal transport type. At baseline, the 2 groups were not different in terms of RRF (glomerular filtration rate [GFR], 5.1 ± 2.9 vs 5.5 ± 3.7 mL/min/1.73 m2). After follow-up, changes in the GFR between the 2 groups were not different (-1.5 ± 2.4 vs -1.3 ± 2.6 mL/min/1.73 m2, p = 0.593). Over the 1-year study period, both groups maintained stability of various fluid status parameters. Between the 2 groups, there were no differences in the net change of various fluid status parameters such as overhydration (OH) and extracellular water/total body water (ECW/TBW). A net change in ECW over 1 year was slightly but significantly higher in the control group (net increase, 0.57 ± 1.27 vs 0.05 ± 1.63 L, p = 0.047). However, this difference was not translated into an improvement in RRF in the BIS group. There were no differences in echocardiographic parameters or arterial stiffness at the end of follow-up. Conclusion Routine BIS-guided fluid management in non-anuric PD patients did not provide additional benefit in volume control, RRF preservation, or cardiovascular (CV) parameters. However, our study cannot be generalized to the whole PD population. Further research is warranted in order to investigate the subpopulation of PD patients who may benefit from routine BIS-guided fluid management.

Abstract Let ψ:(M, g) → (N, h) be a map between Riemannian manifolds (M, g) and (N, h). We introduce the notion of the F-bienergy functional $$\begin{array}{} \displaystyle E_{F,2}(\psi)=\int\limits_{M}F\left(\frac{|\tau(\psi)|^{2}}{2}\right)\text{d}V_{g}, \end{array}$$ where F : [0, ∞) → [0, ∞) be C3 function such that F′ > 0 on (0, ∞), τ(ψ) is the tension field of ψ. Critical points of τF,2 are called F-biharmonic maps. In this paper, we prove a nonexistence result for F-biharmonic maps from a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold of dimension m = dimM ≥ 3 with infinite volume that admit an Euclidean type Sobolev inequality into general Riemannian manifold whose sectional curvature is bounded from above. Under these geometric assumptions we show that if the Lp-norm (p > 1) of the tension field is bounded and the m-energy of the maps is sufficiently small, then every F-biharmonic map must be harmonic. We also get a Liouville-type result under proper integral conditions which generalize the result of [Branding V., Luo Y., A nonexistence theorem for proper biharmonic maps into general Riemannian manifolds, 2018, arXiv: 1806.11441v2].
