This thesis aimed to investigate the changing nature, expression and measurement of contemporary racist attitudes, discriminatory behaviours and racial stereotypes in an Australian context. The first principal aim of this thesis was to further establish the psychometric properties of the Symbolic Racism Extended Scale (Fraser & Islam, 1997b). From courtrooms to classrooms, and from circulation to threshold, architects in the US design spaces that reflect an institutionalization of white supremacy. In this research brief, we present summaries of four case studies of racism in mainstream and social media in Aotearoa. Through a series of carefully selected datasets sourced from TV episodes (Police TEN 7), print media such as news articles (including Northland checkpoints), and tweets (Three Waters reform), we outline how Māori are represented across these mediums. This project determined the rates of everyday anti-racism in Victoria, and how they vary across demographics and places. The team identified important pro-social, intercultural actions in everyday life and the everyday language of anti-racism among Victorians, including which anti-racism discourses work best, and how pro-social action can be best inspired through campaigns. The research was conducted between November 2022 and February 2023, and consisted of two case studies: Case study 1 investigated racism in the experiences of Uber riders (passengers)using field testing methodology.
