This paper presents the findings of two independent studies which examined the test-retest reliability and the fall-off effects of the Munich Life Event List (MEL). The MEL is a three-step interview procedure for assessing life incidents which focusses on recognition processes rather than free recall. In a reliability study, test–retest coefficients of the MEL, based on a sample of 42 subjects, were quite stable over a 6-week interval. Stability for severe incidents appeared to be higher than for the less severe ones. In the fall-off study, a total rate of 30% fall-off was noted for all incide

The management of digital video has become a very challenging problem as the amount of video content continues to witness phenomenal growth. This trend necessitates the development of advanced techniques for the efficient and effective manipulation of video information. A common feature of news reports is the reference to events other than the one which is central to the discourse. Previous research has suggested Gricean explanations for this; more generally, the phenomenon has been referred to simply as "journalistic style". Whatever the underlying reasons, recent investigations into information extraction have emphasised the need for a better understanding of the mechanisms that can be used to recognise and distinguish between multiple events in discourse. Existing information extraction systems approach the problem of event recognition in a number of ways.

As a result, today, we are facing a problem in indexing and browsing the huge amounts of multimedia data. This amount of data is impossible to be indexed or browsed by hand so automatic indexing and browsing systems are proposed. Audio Event Detection is a research area which tries to analyse the audio data in a semantic and perceptual manner, to bring a conceptual solution to this problem. In this thesis, a method for detecting several audio events in TV broadcast

This praxis develops a simulation-based approach to analyzing the overall reliability of complex systems with high degrees of redundancy, time varying event rates, and the potential for common cause failures. This approach is compared to traditional analytic approaches, and is shown to have some advantages, primarily by avoiding some of the simplifying assumptions used in those approaches.

Several canonical problems are solved using both traditional and simulation-based approaches to elucidate the method, and the method is then applied to more complex problems for which exact anal
