Healthy freshwater ecosystems provide essential ecosystem services to society such as clean water. However, freshwater ecosystems are degraded, and freshwater biodiversity is severely threatened due to anthropogenic impacts and stressors. Climate change interacts with existing stressors and may compromise the resilience of freshwater ecosystems and their services in the future. Here the aim is to review advances in assessing freshwater ecosystem services and their resilience to environmental change. The COVID-19 pandemic and associated economic downturn is the latest example of a globally unsettling event. However, while the crisis is global not every region will react, and most importantly, recover in the same way. Examples of resilience to such events can be found and studied at local levels, such as municipalities, all the way up to the differences in responses by nations. Interactions among species are to a large part responsible for the delivery of ecosystem functions, and form the architecture of biodiversity. The paper presents the current results of a long-term research project focused on mapping educational ecosystems in Bulgaria. Based on a conceptual analysis of ecosystemic paradigm in formal and non-formal education the paper presents a classification of identified types of educational models and practices with ecosystemic features. The qualitative research is based on case studies of the 6 administrative regions of the country with the aim to map the typical educational ecosystems. The data show that their features and dynamics reflect the reached balance between proactive local culture(s), c

The Green Resilient Agriculture Productive Ecosystems (GRAPE) project seeks to foster climate resilience and sustainable economic growth in Nepal's Sudurpashchim and Karnali provinces. As one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, Nepal's economic development is closely tied to agriculture. Communities dependent on agriculture, particularly in Western Nepal, are among the poorest and most severely affected by climate change. The Community Learning Centre (CLC) operates on the principle of "seeing is believing" and aims to facilitate climate-resilient agriculture through co-design,

The second volume in the Summary for Urban Policymakers (SUP) series, Climate Change in Cities and Urban Areas: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability, offers a concise and accessible distillation of the IPCC Working Group II Report. Cities are places of high risks from climate change, resulting from the interaction of climate change hazards, the exposure of infrastructure, people and ecosystems, the vulnerability of exposed elements and communities, and the negative or unintended effects of responses to climate change to people and ecosystems. This report assesses the feasibility and effective

This report is the outcome of the project Urban Agriculture for a Resilient Future (FutureUA) financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers and implemented in 2023. In this final report, we discuss the future of urban agriculture across different themes, namely (1) cultivating change in connection with innovation and legislation, (2) cultivating community in connection with culture, and (3) cultivating knowledge in connection with education and science. While the first theme reflects the potential of agriculture to occupy more space in cities and to be perceived as a desirable urban function thr

Climate change has arrived, putting lives, ecosystems, and economies in jeopardy. "Heat and High Water" provides a much-needed primer on how countries can adapt to this harsh new reality. Written for a general audience in clear, non-technical language, the book examines climate threats and resilience strategies sector by sector, focusing on the specific challenges for Latin America and the Caribbean. How can dense population centers use wetlands and parks, as well as other elements of urban planning, to protect against floods and landslides? What can be done to ensure the health and wellbeing

Escalating wildfires across the Western United States threaten water resources for millions of people. By altering how precipitation and water move through ecosystems, wildfires can increase the risk of erosion and landslides and disrupt water quality and availability. Climate change is expected to further worsen wildfires, but local, state, and federal actions can help protect against the threats these fires pose to water resources. Reductions in heat- trapping emissions, active forest management, and investments in climate-resilient water infrastructure would limit the risks wildfires pose t

Nepal, one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries, is facing severe impacts from climate change, particularly in its agricultural sector, which employs two-thirds of the population and contributes more than a quarter of the nation’s GDP. Smallholder farmers, the backbone of this sector, are grappling with rising temperatures, erratic monsoon patterns, droughts, and increasingly frequent extreme weather events. Adapting to these challenges through Climate-Resilient Agriculture (CRA) is essential to ensuring food security and safeguarding the livelihoods of millions. CRA incorporates n
