The mitral valve (MV), the largest valve of the heart, regulates unidirectional flow between the left atrium and left ventricle. During the systolic phase the MV function is to sustain the maximum ventricle pressure and prevent the reversal flow; during the diastole, the MV is open allowing the blood flow from the atrium and the ventricle filling. The physiological function of the left heart is partly guaranteed by the perfect sealing of the mitral valve in the systole.

Abstract Cold spray (CS) is being use in both civil aviation and military aircraft fleets as a method for repairing obsolete or damaged parts mainly for dimensional repair. There is ongoing research by the United States Office of Naval Research examining the corrosion and mechanical property equivalency of CS repairs on aluminum alloys for structural applications on aircraft. Recent testing has shown that CS repairs of fatigue sample geometries with 15-30% blend outs are able to improve fatigue life to near that of an undamaged fatigue sample at two stress ratios. Via processing, physical property, and weatherability comparisons traditional coatings and gelcoats will be compared with this new technology which affords the applicator and owner significant benefits such as long term durability, rapid re-deployment, ultra-low VOC, no added heavy metals or phthalates, and no styrene odor.
