AbstractWe are now witnessing a major change in the world’s population. Many people globally grow very old: 80, 90, and 100 years. Increased age is followed by an increased incidence of functional and chronic comorbidities and diverse disabilities, which for many leads to the need for long-term care in a nursing home. Quality of life and health promotive initiatives for older persons living in nursing homes will become ever more important in the years to come. Therefore, this chapter focuses on health promotion among older adults living in nursing homes. First, this chapter clarifies the concepts of health, salutogenesis, and pathogenesis, followed by knowledge about health promotion. Then insight and knowledge about the nursing home population is provided; what promotes health and well-being in nursing home residents?Health promotion in the health services should be based on integrated knowledge of salutogenesis and pathogenesis. The salutogenic understanding of health is holistic and considers man as a wholeness including physical, mental, social, and spiritual/existential dimensions. Research indicates that various health-promoting interventions, specifically the nurse–patient interaction, influence on older adults in nursing homes as a wholeness of body–soul–spirit, affecting the whole being. Hence, dimensions such as pain, fatigue, dyspnea, nausea, loneliness, anxiety, and depressive symptoms will be influenced through health-promoting approaches. Therefore, two separate studies on the health-promoting influences of nurse–patient interaction in nursing home residents were conducted. In total, nine hypotheses of directional influence of the nurse–patient interaction were tested, all of which finding support.Along with competence in pain and symptom management, health-promoting nurse–patient interaction based on awareness and attentional skills is essential in nursing home care. Thus, health care workers should be given the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and relational skills, in order to “refine” their way of being present together with residents in nursing homes. Health professionals’ competence involves the “being in the doing”; that is, both the doing and the way of being are essential in health and nursing care.

This chapter looks at the fundamental role played by spirit possession in the religious experience of Paul and of his Christ groups. It begins with their doctrinal and specifically christological elaborations. Being “in Christ” is the idiom through which Paul expresses the experience of possession by a πνεῦμα‎, which is identified with the risen Christ and which, through its presence in them, grants to believers salvation from the eschatological wrath and the expectation of eternal life. For Paul, Christ has achieved the state of existence designated as πνεῦμα‎ through his death and resurrection. This was an idea that was also shared by other early Christ groups, as is confirmed—albeit not without negligible difference—by an examination of a key section in the Shepherd of Hermas.

This paper explicates and connects two of Haugeland’s most controversial philosophical claims: his puzzling claim that the characteristic form of intentionality and human understanding is love, and his revisionist interpretation of Heidegger’s account of “existential death” in Being and Time. The former claim responds to Haugeland’s implicit classification and telling criticisms of the predominant alternative conceptions of intentionality. Haugeland argues that these alternatives actually fit different phenomena (“ersatz” or “lapsed” intentionality) that fall short of even the most ordinary human comportments. The latter claim treats “death” as concerned not with human mortality, but with the objective accountability of entire domains of human activity and understanding. Heidegger thereby has a deeper, more adequate account of intentionality and understanding directly complementing Haugeland’s re-conception of intentionality as a form of love. This reading also brings Being and Time into closer critical engagement with Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit. This juxtaposition further illuminates Heidegger’s Kantian emphasis upon the finitude of human understanding, and brings out the political significance of Being and Time in constructively revealing ways despite Heidegger’s own later disastrous political involvement.

A linear line complex can be very useful in specifying the spiral angle in hyperboloidal gearing. Ball’s reciprocity condition is used in conjunction with the linear line complex to specify the spiral angle using a system of cylindroidal coordinates. The loads on both a model of a smooth cable and a helical strake (also known as scrouton spiral) were measured in a wind tunnel. The coefficients of drag, lift and transverse force were ascertained for an angle of attack between 0 and 360 degrees. Results show that the drag coefficient increases by the spiral in each case whereas the lift coefficient changes only insignificantly. A defined transverse force is caused by the spiral. Resumo:

We investigate experimentally and numerically the influence of a radial temperature gradient in a vertical rotating cylindrical annulus. The geometrical parameters are fixed with aspect ratio and radii ratio respectively equal to 114 and 0.8. After imposing a Grashof number, the convection cell is destabilized by inertial forces due to the increasing of the rotation of the inner cylinder. Above a critical value of the control parameter, the Reynolds number, a spiral pattern occurs giving rise to a finite extent propagating pattern through a supercritical Hopf bifurcation.

This study reports the method of forging of spiral bevel gear. Two ideas for crowning of tooth surface to obtain point contact for forging gears are proposed. By one idea, tooth surface of pinion meshes with the gear tooth surface by conjugate point contact. And the trace of contact points on the gear tooth surface is perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of gear tooth, namely becomes the “square contact” so called in gear technology. Conventional single stage centrifugal pumps are mostly designed with a spiral volute. Due to relative movement between impeller and the asymmetric volute the flow at the outlet of the impeller is strongly interacting with the volute flow. Abstract A method for analyzing single flank test results is proposed. The analysis yields geometrical deviations of spiral bevel gears. It is based on extracting information on the meshing tooth surfaces from the transmission error curve and digital photograph of the contact pattern. A neural network is trained by a batch of computer simulated transmission error curves and respective contact patterns belonging to systematically varied geometrical deviations. Plane spiroid gears currently applied in feed motion rotary drives are roughly described in this paper. The theoretical possible methods of backlash adjustment in this kind of gear are mentioned. This paper outlines a systematic methodology for finding the machine setting corrections required to obtain a predesigned ease-off surface in spiral bevel and hypoid gear teeth. The problem is given a nonlinear least squares formulation which, however, is highly prone to numerical instabilities. The Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm with a trust region strategy turned out to be quite effective and robust to obtain feasible solutions.
