La cuestión del tinte en la antigüedad ha atraído a lo largo de la historiografía un gran interés por parte de los especialistas. Para esta línea de investigación, Ugarit ofrece grandes posibilidades de estudio tanto textual como arqueológico. Así pues, los tintes que aparecen con más frecuencia en las fuentes son el azul, la púrpura, el rojo y el verde, cada uno con una serie de materiales y procesos específicos necesarios para ser fabricados. Igualmente, se han identificado varias estructuras con posibles talleres donde se llevaría a cabo la manufactura del tinte. Por otro lado, las fuentes también nos hablan de la fama internacional que adquirieron estos tejidos, siendo altamente cotizados en cortes extranjeras y distribuidos a través de redes diplomáticas y comerciales.

La serigrafía textil utilizada por las microempresas y pequeñas empresas (MYPE) del Perú se caracteriza por ser artesanal, lo que supone que utilizan tecnologías limpias, sin embargo, no utilizan insumos ecológicos. El Perú es un país rico en tradición en el uso de tintes naturales desde las culturas preincas e incas. En la actualidad dicha tradición se encuentra limitada a prendas elaboradas para los turistas extranjeros y en lugares muy alejados y de difícil acceso. En los ensayos realizados para obtener un tinte natural para el proceso de estampado se han hecho pruebas con el eucalipto (Eucalyptus), y se han obtenido buenos resultados con el sistema constituído por el concentrado de hojas de eucalipto y almidón como vehículo.

The high-temperature gas-cooled reactor pebble-bed module (HTR-PM) nuclear power plant consists of two nuclear steam supply system modules, each of which drives the steam turbine by the superheated steam flow and is fed by the heated-up water flow. The shared steam/water system induces mutual effects on normal operation conditions and transients of the nuclear power plant, which is worthy of safety concerns and intensive study. In this paper, a coupling code package was developed with the TINTE and vPower codes to understand how the HTR-PM operated. The TINTE code was used to analyze the reactor core and primary circuit, while the vPower code simulated the steam/water flow in the conventional island. Two TINTE models were built and coupled to one vPower model through the data exchange in the steam generator models. Using this code package, two typical transients were simulated by decreasing the primary flow rate or introducing the negative reactivity of one module. Important parameters, including the reactor power, the fuel temperature, and the reactor inlet and outlet helium temperatures of two modules, had been studied. The calculation results preliminarily proved that this code package can be further used to evaluate working performance of the HTR-PM.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects and importance of different cross–section representations and energy group structures for steady state and transient analysis. More energy groups may be more accurate, but the calculation becomes much more expensive, hence a balance between accuracy and calculation effort must be find. This study is aimed at comparing a multi–group energy dynamics code, MGT (Multi–group TINTE) with TINTE (TIme Dependent Neutronics and TEmperatures). TINTE’s original version (version 204d) only distinguishes between two energy group structures, namely thermal and fast region with a polynomial reconstruction of cross–sections pre–calculated as a function of different conditions and temperatures. MGT is a TINTE derivative that has been developed, allowing a variable number of broad energy groups. The MGT code will be benchmarked against the OECD PBMR coupled neutronics/thermal hydraulics transient benchmark: the PBMR–400 core design. This comparative study reveals the variations in the results when using two different methods for cross–section generation and multi–group energy structure. Inputs and results received from PBMR (Pty) Ltd. were used to do the comparison. A comparison was done between two–group TINTE and the equivalent two energy groups in MGT as well as between 4, 6 and 8 energy groups in MGT with the different cross–section generation methods, namely inline spectrum– and tabulated cross–section method. The characteristics that are compared are reactor power, moderation– and maximum fuel temperatures and k–effective (only steady state case). This study revealed that a balance between accuracy and calculation effort can be met by using a 4–group energy group structure. A larger part of the available increase in accuracy can be obtained with 4–groups, at the cost of only a small increase in CPU time. The changing of the group structures in the steady state case from 2 to 8 groups has a greater influence on the variation in the results than the cross–section generation method that was used to obtain the results. In the case of a transient calculation, the cross–section generation method has a greater influence on the variation in the results than on the steady state case and has a similar effect to the number of energy groups.

La capacidad de hacer dosimetría en dos dimensiones es una herramienta para la medicina. En particular, en la terapia de irradiación de cuerpo entero con electrones de alta energía, utilizada para el tratamiento de la micosis fungoide, se debe determinar, de manera adecuada y en un tiempo razonablemente corto, el porcentaje de dosis en profundidad y la distribución de dosis en el plano del tratamiento (80 x 190 cm2), para ello se pueden usar diferentes dosímetros tales como las cámaras de ionización (CI), las películas de tinte radicrómico o radiocrómicas (PTR) y los dosímetros termoluminiscentes (TLD), entre otros. Sin embargo usar CI o TLD, es bastante tardado y requiere de un sistema de control de movimiento para tener mayor precisión, de ahí que la película radiocrómica es una alternativa para medir el campo de radiación ya que cuenta con las características de ser relativamente barata, archiva los datos adquiridos al ser irradiada y es sensible a la radiación.

El proyecto tiene como objetivo crear una empresa de elaboración y comercialización del carmín, colorante natural que es utilizado en la industria alimenticia, cosmética, textil y farmacéutica, y que se obtiene de la crianza de un insecto denominado Cochinilla del Carmín, cuyo hábitat son las plantas de tuna. El propósito del proyecto es satisfacer una demanda creciente, a nivel mundial, de colorantes de origen natural, debido al cuestionamiento en que han caído los colorantes sintéticos debido a los efectos colaterales cancerígenos que provocan, especialmente los de color rojo. Esto ha llevado que la mayor parte de los países más industrializados, y muchos en vías de desarrollo, hayan establecido normas legales que prohíben el uso de colorantes artificiales en beneficio de los naturales. Si se considera que los colorantes sintéticos representan el 90% del total de colorantes consumidos en el mundo, es esperable un crecimiento fuerte en los próximos años para los colorantes naturales. El proyecto participará en este mercado creciente con un producto de alta calidad y con un rendimiento productivo superior y costos inferiores a la competencia, en virtud a un manejo de cultivo de cochinilla asistido por profesionales, aprovechamiento de exenciones tributarias y aduaneras en una zona franca, beneficios otorgados por el país a las exportaciones, y cercanía con los principales proveedores de materia prima. El proceso productivo del proyecto está conformado por 3 fases: Un ciclo agrícola- biológico para obtener los tunales e infestación asistida de cochinilla, un ciclo industrial para producir el carmín, y un ciclo de comercialización internacional para colocar el producto. La primera producción se obtiene al 21º mes y se logra la producción plena al 30º mes. La estrategia comercial se basa en un contacto directo con el cliente objetivo, que corresponden a los mercados de los países con los cuales Chile ha establecido tratados de libre comercio y acuerdos comerciales. El proyecto requiere un financiamiento de US$ 770.000, los que serán financiados en un 60% por los gestores del proyecto y un 40% por un financista externo, bajo la modalidad de una sociedad anónima cerrada. La evaluación económica determina la viabilidad del proyecto con un Valor Presente Neto de US$ 144.000, una Tasa Interna de Retorno de 19,72% y un Período de Recupero de la Inversión de 2,9 años. 6 Las simulaciones arrojan un alto grado de sensibilidad del proyecto ante cambios en el precio del carmín, del insumo cochinilla, y de los volúmenes de tratamiento de la planta. No obstante, el primer factor presenta una estabilidad histórica, y los otros 2 son controlables por el proyecto. En consideración de los antecedentes expuestos, los gestores del proyectos recomiendan su ejecución.

This thesis is devoted to the theoretical and computational study at atomistic and molecular scales of the properties of novel organic nanoparticles called “Quatsomes” (vesicles made by mixing CTAB cationic surfactant and cholesterol) as well as the interactions of Quatsomes with different types of fluorescent molecules. The methodology employed is computational molecular modelling. It includes modelling of the interactions between molecules at different scales and resolutions (DFT electronic structure calculations, atomistic molecular mechanics force fields and coarse-grain molecular mechanics force fields) and molecular dynamics simulations at atomistic and coarse-grain molecular resolutions. Most of the results have observable consequences that have been confirmed experimentally. The thesis is divided into an Introduction to the topic (with a brief explanation of the main experimental results and the main theoretical concepts), a chapter describing in detail the methods to be employed in the thesis, four chapters containing new results and a chapter with conclusions and perspectives. The results of the thesis are presented in two parts. The first part (Chapters 3 and 4) contains the results concerning the simulations and calculations of structure and properties of the Quatsome vesicle from atomistic and coarse-grain molecular simulations. The second part (Chapters 5 and 6) contains the simulation study of the interaction of Quatsome vesicles with different types of dyes. The atomistic simulation results presented in Chapter 3 provide a detailed characterization of the properties of the Quatsome bilayer. The molecular organization of the components across the bilayer (positioning, orientation and diffusion of the component molecules) was studied as well as mechanical properties such as bending modulus and area expansion modulus. The effect of temperature and added salt was also analyzed. Remarkably, it was found that the orientation of the molecules has a spontaneous symmetry breaking between the two leaflets of the bilayer and states with different orientations coexist, a theoretical prediction that has been tested experimentally. In Chapter 4 two coarse-grain Martini-type parametrizations of a force field for CTAB surfactant (one for explicit solvent and one for implicit solvent simulations) was developed and successfully tested against atomistic simulations. The model was further employed to perform simulations of full Quatsome vesicles. These simulations revealed that the Quatsome vesicle is made of planar faces linked by curved defects, a kind of vesicle organization never found before. These predictions were confirmed by experimental Cryo-TEM images. Chapters 5 and 6 start by developing (from DFT) CHARMM compatible atomistic force fields for simulation of different dyes (fluorescein in Chapter 4 and DiD and DiI in Chapter 5). These force fields were employed in molecular dynamics simulations of the interactions of these dyes with Quatsomes. The results demonstrate that despite the hydrophilic fluorescein dye interacts strongly with Quatsome (via electrostatic interactions), the adsorption of the dye competes with the more favorable formation of soluble molecular clusters. Hence, a more suitable approach is to employ hydrophobic dyes such as DiI and DiD. The simulations reported in the thesis show that these dyes are integrated in the bilayer without deforming or altering the Quatsome and without aggregating inside the Quatsome bilayer, thus providing suitable alternatives for developing fluorescent vesicles. The conclusions and perspectives section shows that the thesis not only present many new results but also has many possible future perspectives in different directions: vesicles with resonant energy transfer, conceptual aspects regarding the spontaneous self-assembly of vesicles, possibility of replacing the components by other different bilayer components. All these options have been initially explored and all of them are very promising.

TINTE is a well established reactor analysis code which models the transient behaviour of pebble bed reactor cores but it does not include the capabilities to model a power conversion unit (PCU). This raises the issue that TINTE cannot model full system transients. One way to overcome this problem is to supply TINTE with time-dependant thermal-hydraulic boundary conditions which are obtained from PCU simulations. This study investigates a method to provide boundary conditions for the nuclear code TINTE during full system transients. This was accomplished by creating a high level interface between the systems CFD code Flownex and TINTE. An indirect coupling method is explored whereby characteristics of the PCU are matched to characteristics of the nuclear core. This method eliminates the need to iterate between the two codes. A number of transients are simulated using the coupled code and then compared against stand-alone Flownex simulations. The coupling method introduces relatively small errors when reproducing mass flow, temperature and pressure in steady state analysis, but become more pronounced when dealing with fast thermal-hydraulic transients. Decreasing the maximum time step length of TINTE reduces this problem, but increases the computational time.

In this study several air and water ingress scenarios for the PBMR [1] were simulated by means of the dynamic reactor code TINTE (TIme-dependent Neutronics and TEmperatures) [2]. The Power Conversion Unit (PCU) and other sub-systems cannot be modelled with the TINTE code and therefore air ingress rates were obtained from Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis performed by utilizing the FLUENT code [3]. The use of the TINTE code was previously validated with simulations of the NACOK corrosion experiments [4], [5], [6]. The validations were performed at Forschungszentrum Juelich, however the results are not yet published. The rates of chemical reactions between graphite and gases like O2, CO2, H2O and H2 are negligible below 400°C. Air and water ingress into the PBMR core at high temperatures can result in corrosion of the PBMR fuel spheres and a possible increase in the fission product release rate. The air ingress scenarios included in this study are; a break in the core outlet pipe at the turbine inlet location, which results in air ingress from the outlet plenum, and a break in a pipe that is connected to the top of the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV), which results in air ingress from top of the core. For both transients it is assumed that a Depressurized Loss of Forced Cooling (DLOFC) event takes place prior to the air ingress. The DLOFC leads to high fuel and reflector temperatures that allow higher oxidation rates. The results show that the oxidation of graphite structures in the core is more severe in the case of the outlet pipe break transient. A break in the Core Conditioning System (CCS) heat exchanger circuit during a maintenance mode or following a reactor trip could result in water ingress of up to 1000 kg into the core (the primary system is depressurized at this stage). During the water ingress the CCS continuously cools down the core. Due to the low water ingress rate and lower fuel temperatures, the water ingress transient is not as severe as the air ingress transients.

The Reactor Cavity Cooling System (RCCS) of a High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (HTGR) may be required to operate in a “passive” mode when heat is removed from the reactor cavity by letting RCCS water inventory to boil off to atmosphere. Overheating of the reactor cavity concrete walls may lead to a failure of the reactor vessel support structures and its shift off the design position. Dislocation of the massive reactor vessel may cause multiple ruptures of pipes, connected to both the upper and lower vessel heads. Such breaks of the reactor pressure boundary will enable air ingress into the core, fuel oxidation and overheating, and possible release of fission products into the environment. The computer code TINTE [3] was used to simulate a “Depressurized Loss Of Flow Circulation (DLOFC) Without Reactor Scram” accident and determine from its results the magnitude, axial distribution, and time dependence of the heat flux on the RCCS cooling panels. The computer code RELAP [4] was used to model the operation in “passive” mode of one RCCS train, consisting of a tank and four standpipes. This paper describes the application of both RELAP and TINTE for the simulation of RCCS operation in passive mode. The main conclusion from this analysis is that the proposed way of using both codes is suitable to perform scoping studies and design evaluation of RCCS of a pebble-bed HTGR.

Reactivity accident due to inadvertent withdrawal of the control rod is one kind of the design basis accident for high temperature gas-cooled reactors, which should be analyzed carefully in order to validate the reactor inherent safety properties. Based on the preliminary design of the Chinese Pebble-bed Modular High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTR-PM) with single module power of 250MW, several cases of reactivity accident has been studied by the help of the software TINTE in the paper, e.g., the first scram signal works or not, the absorber balls (secondary shutdown units) drop or not, and the ATWS situation is also taken into account. The dynamic processes of the important parameters including reactor power, fuel temperature and Xenon concentration are studied and compared in detail between these different cases. The calculating results show that, the decay heat during the reactivity accidents can be removed from the reactor core solely by means of physical processes in a passive way, so that the temperature limits of fuel element and other components are still obeyed, which can effectively keep the integrality of the fuel particles to avoid massive fission products release. This will be helpful to the further detail design of the HTR-PM demonstrating power plant project.

Depressurized loss of coolant accident (DLOCA) is one of the most important design basis accidents for high temperature gas-cooled reactors. Analysis of the reactor characteristic behavior during DLOCA can provide useful reference to the physics, thermo-hydraulic and structure designs of the reactor core. In this paper, according to the preliminary design of the 250MW Pebble-bed Modular High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTR-PM), three cases of DLOCA: a instantaneous depressurization along with a flow coastdown and scram at zero time, a main pipe with a diameter of 65mm rupture, and a instrument pipe with a diameter of 10mm broken, are studied by the help of two different kinds of software THERMIX and TINTE. The key parameters of different cases including reactor power, temperature distribution of the core and pressure vessel, and the decay power removal by the passive residual heat remove system (RHRS) are compared in detail. Some uncertainties, such as residual heat calculation, power distribution, heat conductivity of fuel element, etc., are analyzed in order to evaluate the safety margin of the maximum fuel temperature during DLOCA. The calculating results show that, the decay heat in the DLOCA can be removed from the reactor core solely by means of physical processes in a passive way, so that the temperature limits of fuel and components are still obeyed. It also illustrates that the HTR-PM can reach 250MW reactor power per unit and still can keep the inherent safety.

Water-ingress accident, caused by the steam generator heating tube rupture of a high temperature gas-cooled reactor, will introduce a positive reactivity to lead the nuclear power increase rapidly, as well as the chemical reaction of graphite fuel elements and reflector structure material with steam. Increase of the primary circuit pressure may result in the opening of the safety valve, which will cause the release of radioactive isotopes and flammable water gas. The analysis of such an important and particular accident is significant for verifying the inherent safety characteristics of the pebble-bed modular high temperature gas-cooled reactor. Based on the preliminary design of the 250MW Pebble-bed Modular High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTR-PM), the design basis accident of double-ended guillotine break of a heating tube has been analyzed by using TINTE, which is a special transient analysis program for high temperature gas-cooled reactors. Some safety relevant concerns, such as the fuel temperature and primary loop pressure, the graphite corrosion inventory, the water gas releasing amount, as well as the natural convection influence under the condition of the failure of the blower flaps shut down, have been studied in detail. The calculation result of the design basis accident indicates that, the maximal possible water ingress amount is less than 600 kg and the maximal fuel temperature keeps far below the design limitation of 1620°C. The result also shows that the slight amount of graphite corrosion will not damage the reactor structure and the fuel element, and there is no potential explosive risk caused by the opening of the safety valve.
