BackgroundWe examined citation data for the British Journal of Psychiatry (BJP) and four other general psychiatry journals to assess their impact on the scientific community.MethodData on three measures of citations (total number of citations, impact factor and ranking by impact factor) were obtained from Journal Citation Reports for 1985–1994. Rank correlations from year to year were calculated.ResultsThe BJP currently ranks sixth of all psychiatry journals when journals are ranked by impact factor. The journal's impact factor fell between 1985 and 1990 and this was followed by a rise in impact factor after 1991. The BJP did not rank in the top 10 psychiatry journals between 1991 and 1993. Archives of General Psychiatry is cited more frequently than any other psychiatry journal, with the American Journal of Psychiatry usually ranking second. Psychopharmacology journals are replacing more general journals in the top rankings. Rankings of most journals have become less stable in recent years.ConclusionsThe BJP would have to change the nature and number of papers published to improve its impact factor. There are a number of limitations to citation data and such data are only one of several factors useful in evaluating the importance of a journal's contribution to scientific and clinical communities.Conflict of interestThese condauthor is Editor of the British Journal of Psychiatry.

Purpose: : An accurate evaluation of the influence of the largest publishers in world journal publishing is a starting point for negotiating journal subscriptions and an important issue for research libraries. This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of the largest publishers based on Journal Citation Reports (JCR) indicators.Methods: From JCR 2014 to 2018 data, a unique journal list by publisher was created in Excel. The top 10 publishers were selected and evaluated in terms of the average share of six JCR indicators including the impact factor, Eigenfactor score, and article influence score, along with the number of journals, articles, and citations.Results: The top three publishers accounted for about 50% of the JCR indicators, the top five for 60%, and the top 10 for 70%. Therefore, the concentration of the top three publishers, with a share exceeding 50% for five indicators, was more intensive than has been reported in previous studies. For the top 10 publishers, not only the number of journals and articles, but also citations and the impact factor, which reflect the practical use of journals, were increasing.Conclusion: These evaluation results will be important to research libraries and librarians in deciding upon journal subscriptions using publisher information, to journal publishers trying to list their journals in JCR, and to consortium operators to negotiate strategically. Using the unique journal list created in this research process, various follow-up studies are possible. However, it is also urgent to build a standardized world journal list with accurate information.

<p>This paper examines the characteristics of “top tier” finance journal publications relative to “second tier” finance publications. We study ten leading finance journals and classify the top four journals as “top tier” and the remaining six as “second tier” journals. Using a sample of 3,156 different articles with 7,103 different authors and a Logit model, the results highlight the following characteristics: papers presented at WFA, AFA, and seminars, and have multiple colleague comments tend to be published in the top tier journals. Also, authors who graduated from or are affiliated with the top business schools tend to publish in the top tier journals.</p>

Purpose Pay, tenure and promotion decisions are frequently based upon inferences regarding the value of faculty research. Meanwhile, departmental, college and university reputations are frequently based on perceptions regarding the quality of research being produced by its faculty. Making correct inferences requires accurate measurement of research quality, which is often based upon the journal through which results are shared. This research expands upon the research found elsewhere through its detailed investigation of leading journals in two business disciplines, including examination of four different citation-based measures and four journal characteristics which are exogenous to the quality of any individual piece of research. The paper aims to discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach This study assists in the development of an accurate perspective regarding research quality, by studying the popular Journal Citation Reports (JCR) impact factor. A further expansion on the past literature is consideration of three newer journal quality metrics: SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP) and percentage of articles cited. Top-tier journals in finance and information systems are compared to evaluate the consistency of these measures across disciplines. Differences in journal characteristics and their impact on citation-rate based measures of quality are also examined. The potential impact of discipline-based variation in acceptance rate, issue frequency, the time since journal inception and total reviewers are put forth as additional potential exogenous factors that may impact the perception of journal quality. t-Tests are employed for discipline comparisons, while correlation and multiple regression are used for journal characteristic analysis. Findings There is a significant difference in the JCR impact measures of high-quality finance journals vs high-quality information systems journals, which are correlated with a variety of journal-specific factors including the journal’s acceptance rate and frequency of issue. Information systems journals domination of finance journals persists whether one considers mean, median, minimum or maximum impact factors. SJR measures for finance journals are consistently higher than information systems journals, though the SJR value of any individual journal can be quite volatile. By comparison, the SNIP metric rates premier information systems journals higher. Over 12 percent more of the articles in leading information systems journals are cited during the initial three years. Research limitations/implications Logical extensions of this research include examining journals in other business disciplines. One could also evaluate quality measures reaction to variation in journal characteristics (i.e. changes in acceptance rates). Furthermore, one could include other measures of journal quality, including the recently released CiteScore metric. Such research will build on the present research and improve the accuracy of research quality assessment. Practical implications To the extent that citation-based research measures and journal-specific factors vary across disciplines as demonstrated by our investigation, discipline-specific traits should be considered adjusted for, when making inferences about the long-term value of recently published research. For instance, finance faculty publishing in journals with JCR readings of 2.0 are in journals that are 53 percent above the discipline’s average, while information systems faculty publishing in journals with JCR readings of 2.0 are in journals that are 18 percent below the discipline’s average. Furthermore, discipline-specific differences in journal characteristics, leading to differences in citation-based quality measures, should be considered when making inferences about the long-term value of recently published research in the process of making recommendations regarding salary adjustments, retention and promotion. Social implications Quantity and quality of research are two hallmarks of leading research institutions. Assessing research quality is very problematic because its definition has changed from being based on review process (i.e. blind refereed), to acceptance rates, to impact factors. Furthermore, the impact factor construct has been a lightning rod of controversy as researchers, administrators and journals themselves argue over which metric to employ. This research is attempting to assess how impact factors and journal characteristics may influence the impact factors, and how these interactions vary business discipline. The research is especially important and relevant to the authors which separately chair departments including finance and information systems faculty, and therefore are in roles requiring assessment of faculty research productivity including quality. Originality/value This study is a detailed analysis of bibliographic aspects of the top-tier journals in two quantitative business areas. In addition to the popular JCR, SJR and SNIP measures of performance, the analysis studies the seldom-examined percentage of the article cited metric. A deeper understanding of citation-based measures is obtained though the evaluation of changes in how journals have been rated on these metrics over time. The research shows that there are discipline-related systematic differences in both citation-based research measures and journal-specific factors and that these discipline-specific traits should be considered when making inferences about the long-term value of recently published research. Furthermore, discipline-specific difference in journal characteristics, leading to differences in citation-based quality measures, should be considered when making personnel and remuneration decisions.

ABSTRACT This paper presents rankings of accounting journals disaggregated by topical area (AIS, audit, financial, managerial, tax, and other) and methodology (analytical, archival, experimental, and other). We find that only for the financial topical area and archival methodology does the traditional top-3 characterization of the best journals accurately describe what journals publish the most-cited work. For all other topic areas and methodologies, the top-3 characterization does not describe what journals publish the most-cited work. For only analytical research does the traditional top-6 journal characterization accurately describe what journals publish the most-cited work. In AIS, the traditional top-3/-6 journals are even less representative, as only one traditional top-3 journal is listed among the six journals publishing the most-cited AIS work, and only three of the traditional top-6 journals are in this list. In addition to creating journal rankings using citations, we create rankings using a unique measure of the attention given by stakeholders outside of the academy. With this measure we find similar results; the traditional top journals are not publishing the articles that receive the most attention in some topical areas. The results call into question whether individuals and institutions should rely solely on the traditional top-3/-6 journal lists for evaluating research productivity and impact. SYNOPSIS Faculty have increased the number of articles submitted to journals ranked in the top-5 of their discipline. This is their rational response to the overweighting of publications in top-5 journals by university promotions and tenure committees. Using journal impact factors, however, to infer the quality of a faculty member's publications incurs a high incidence of both Type 1 errors, when we conclude incorrectly that a paper published in a top-5 journal is a high-impact paper, and Type 2 errors, when we conclude that papers (and books) not published in these journals have low impact. A third type of error occurs when scholars underinvest in research about practice innovations because such research is viewed as unpublishable in top-5 journals. The paper suggests reforms to overcome the dysfunctional fixation on publication in top-5 journals.

Purpose – Journal quality and prestige are the main considerations for researchers, editors, and publishers when submitting manuscripts, citing papers, and developing publishing policies. Journal Citation Reports calculates the impact factor (IF) from journals covered in Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). IF is widely considered as an indicator of journal quality and prestige among business disciplines. Thus, researching what affects the IF is critical. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relation between journal features and the IF, particularly between “hot issues” and the IF, and categorizes journal rankings into top-ten and other journals. Design/methodology/approach – The research sample encompasses publications from 2003 to 2013, focussing specifically on SSCI journals in the categories of business and finance. The examined journal features are the effect of the newly selected as an SSCI journal, frequency of publication, self-citation ratio, citable items, and whether the journal features articles on relevant international economic topics. Findings – The findings are as follows: increasing the publishing frequencies of top-ten journals will elevate IF significantly, conversely, increasing that of other journals will degrade the expected IF; both top-ten and other journals with a high self-citation ratio have a low IF; and publishing papers on critical topics significantly positively affects the IF; however, the level of significance decreases over time. In summary, publishing research on critical topics significantly increases the IF in short term. Originality/value – The findings offer valuable information for researchers, editors, and publishers.

ABSTRACT The year 2021 was the last full year of Alberto Ortiz’s editorship at Clinical Kidney Journal (CKJ). On May 2022, Maria José Soler will start her term as the Editor-in-Chief. Over these years, CKJ obtained its first journal impact factor and has consolidated its position among the top journals in the field, consistently ranking among the top 25% (first quartile) journals in Urology and Nephrology. The 2020 journal impact factor rose to 4.45, becoming the top open access journal in Nephrology and the ninth ranked Nephrology journal overall. We now review the recent history of the journal and the most highly cited topics which include the epidemiology of kidney disease, chronic kidney disease topics, such as the assessment and treatment of chronic kidney disease, onconephrology, cardionephrology, glomerular disease, transplantation and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Background: Funded health research is being published in journals that many regard as “predatory”, deceptive, and non-credible. We do not currently know whether funders provide guidance on how to select a journal in which to publish funded health research. Methods: We identified the largest 46 philanthropic, public, development assistance, public-private partnership, and multilateral funders of health research by expenditure, globally as well as four public funders from lower-middle income countries, from the list at https://healthresearchfunders.org. One of us identified guidance on disseminating funded research from each funders’ website (August/September 2017), then extracted information about selecting journals, which was verified by another assessor. Discrepancies were resolved by discussion. Results were summarized descriptively. This research used publicly available information; we did not seek verification with funding bodies. Results: The majority (44/50) of sampled funders indicated funding health research. 38 (of 44, 86%) had publicly available information about disseminating funded research, typically called “policies” (29, 76%). Of these 38, 36 (95%) mentioned journal publication for dissemination of which 13 (36.11%) offer variable guidance on selecting a journal, all of which relate to the funder’s open access mandate. Six funders (17%) outlined publisher requirements or features by which to select a journal. One funder linked to a document providing features of journals to look for (e.g. listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals) and to be wary of (e.g., no journal scope statement, uses direct and unsolicited marketing). Conclusions: Few funders provided guidance on how to select a journal in which to publish funded research. Funders have a duty to ensure that the research they fund is discoverable by others. This research is a benchmark for funder guidance on journal selection prior to the January 2021 implementation of Plan S (a global, funder-led initiative to ensure immediate, open access to funded, published research).

The thesis takes as its starting point the alleged “founder” of “scientific” economics, Lionel Robbins, and investigates how economics has evolved in time, detaching itself ever more from the richer texture of Robbins’ view which was more akin to classical political economy. I argue that the top journals of economics were key players in the significant epistemological changes the discipline underwent after the 1940s, first with the increasing mathematical formalization, and later with the rise of empiricism in an attempt to mimic the natural sciences. If the 1940s and 1950s marked the rise of formalization in economics, there has been a more recent shift from the Cowles econometric approach to quasi-experimental methods, which have grown considerably in importance since 1990. This shift originated with the disarray in which the simultaneous equations approach fell during the 1980s, with its contested reliance on economic theories based on the optimization of agents or firms. If economics has certainly been relying less on theoretical models and becoming more data-driven in recent decades, hence more applicable to policy matters, this does not necessarily mean that political economy is resurfacing. Economics may be turning into a more useful instrument for designing public policies, but it remains to be seen whether the social, political and institutional elements that were extruded in the transition from political economy to economics will have any important role to play in the new era ofdata-driven economics. Chapter one argues that parallel to the mathematization of economics there was a redefinition of the methodology of economics. In order to do so I assess the influence of British classical economists on Lionel Robbins in what concerns the demarcation between the epistemology of the natural and the social sciences. With the mathematization of economics this distinction was displaced and economists increasingly started to mimic the methods of natural sciences, leading to the dehistorization and desocialization of economics. Lionel Robbins provides an interesting window into investigations of the changing nature of economics not only because he was concerned about the methodology of economics, but also because he wrote in a period when economics was quickly becoming more quantitative. In this sense the lingering influence of British classical economists on Lionel Robbins shows that the mathematization of economics after the 1930s happened in tandem with an epistemological change whereby economists increasingly endorsed the methods of the natural sciences as the proper way to approach their subject matter. In recent years the role of top journals of economics in molding research has been widely debated and the chapters 2 and 3 of the thesis contribute to this debate by examining how the language used by economists evolved since the foundation of Econometrica in 1933 until recent years. The second chapter focuses on the consolidation of mathematical economics between the 1930s and the 1960s. I argue that one of the drivers of the mathematization of economics was the ideological context of the period. As a response to totalitarian tendencies taking place in Europe, quantitative methods grew in importance because they were perceived as being value-free. Using latent semantic analysis I show that there was a convergence in the language used by the top journals of economics and in this sense the origins of the so-called top five journals can be traced back to the 1960s when they endorsed the methods championed by the Econometric Society. Chapter three then investigates the role of the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics in the development of mathematical economics. Using bibliometrics it is shown that the papers published in these journals are strikingly similar between 1940 and 2010. In this sense I argue that mathematical economics was increasingly incorporated by the top general journals and the rest of the profession followed suit, not least because the creation of citation metrics in the 1960s created a hierarchy within

Promotion to partner has always been a future goal for auditors, still becoming a partner is not an easy task, and it has many requirements, and since the audit profession is a sensitive profession and it concern everyone in the society, and since partners are the most important capital that audit firms have, so that is why we thought it is very important to investigate how this position can be reached?This research has a qualitative methodology and has interviews and internal documents as research strategy. The research consist of 7 interviews varied between authorized auditors who are still working in auditing firms or left it before becoming partners, partners and HR, the interviews were performed personally via phone or face to face.The findings are based on semi structured interviews and internal documents. There is significant effect between profitability and promotion to partner beside many more aspects such as Reputation, personal characteristics, promotion systems, personal branding, overtime, industry specialized, education and gender, but being profitable was the most important one.

Background Missing outcome data is a threat to the validity of treatment effect estimates in randomized controlled trials. We aimed to evaluate the extent, handling, and sensitivity analysis of missing data and intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in top tier medical journals, and compare our findings with previous reviews related to missing data and ITT in RCTs. Methods Review of RCTs published between July and December 2013 in the BMJ, JAMA, Lancet, and New England Journal of Medicine, excluding cluster randomized trials and trials whose primary outcome was survival. Results Of the 77 identified eligible articles, 73 (95%) reported some missing outcome data. The median percentage of participants with a missing outcome was 9% (range 0 – 70%). The most commonly used method to handle missing data in the primary analysis was complete case analysis (33, 45%), while 20 (27%) performed simple imputation, 15 (19%) used model based methods, and 6 (8%) used multiple imputation. 27 (35%) trials with missing data reported a sensitivity analysis. However, most did not alter the assumptions of missing data from the primary analysis. Reports of ITT or modified ITT were found in 52 (85%) trials, with 21 (40%) of them including all randomized participants. A comparison to a review of trials reported in 2001 showed that missing data rates and approaches are similar, but the use of the term ITT has increased, as has the report of sensitivity analysis. Conclusions Missing outcome data continues to be a common problem in RCTs. Definitions of the ITT approach remain inconsistent across trials. A large gap is apparent between statistical methods research related to missing data and use of these methods in application settings, including RCTs in top medical journals.

Serving over two million students, the California Community College (CCC) system is a powerhouse in the nation for academics. Though many students attend and successfully complete this educational system, challenges for Black females are often overlooked for the mere fact that they complete at a slightly higher rate compared to their Black male counterparts. The purpose of this study is to explore how Black females within the CCC system make sense of their journey as they move towards graduation and/or transfer. To gain a better understanding of the lived experiences of Black women in the CCC, qualitative ethnographic interviews were conducted. The sample group included 15 Black female participants who are currently attending a community college in California. Four major themes emerged: support systems, educational awareness and expectations, self-awareness and foresightedness. These findings provide a new perspective that can assist in the promotion of programs, policies and resources specific to the needs of this population in order for them to be successful.

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o návrhu ložisek kompresoru. Za tímto účelem byl zakoupen speciální program JDynamic. Tento software poskytuje cenný přínos při navrhování kluzných ložisek a s tím spojených problémů. Programové výsledky reálného kompresoru jsou obsaženy v parametrické studii. Byl proveden test reálného kompresru. Modifikace kluzných ložisek byly zaměřeny na snížení ztrát.

Resumo:

In this thesis we study the problem of forecasting the final score of a football match before the game kicks off (pre-match) and show how the derived models can be used to make profit in an algorithmic trading (betting) strategy. The thesis consists of two main parts. The first part discusses the database and a new class of counting processes. The second part describes the football forecasting models. The data part discusses the details of the design, specification and data collection of a comprehensive database containing extensive information on match results and events, players' skills and attributes and betting market prices. The database was created using state of the art web-scraping, text-processing and data-mining techniques. At the time of writing, we have collected data on all games played in the five major European leagues since the 2009-2010 season and on more than 7000 players. The statistical modelling part discusses forecasting models based on a new generation of counting process with flexible inter-arrival time distributions. Several different methods for fast computation of the associated probabilities are derived and compared. The proposed algorithms are implemented in a contributed R package Countr available from the Comprehensive R Archive Network. One of these flexible count distributions, the Weibull count distribution, was used to derive our first forecasting model. Its predictive ability is compared to the models previously suggested in the literature and tested in an algorithmic trading (betting) strategy. The model developed has been shown to perform rather well compared to its competitors. Our second forecasting model uses the same statistical distribution but models the attack and defence strengths of each team at the players level rather than at a team level, as is systematically done in the literature. For this model we make heavy use of the data on the players' attributes discussed in the data part of the thesis. Not only does this model turn out to have a higher predictive power but it also allows us to answer important questions about the 'nature of the game' such as the contribution of the full-backs to the attacking efforts or where would a new team finish in the Premier League.

Auf der Basis des Impact-Faktors, entsprechend der Definition Eugene Garfields, werden die Implikationen dieses IF für szientometrische Überlegungen und deren Folgen für das Zeitschriftenwesen untersucht. Die Ergebnisse der vorliegenden Arbeit zeigen: Der Impact-Faktor ist ein Wert, der einen Hinweis auf den durchschnittlichen Bekanntheitsgrad eines Beitrags in einer vom SCI erfassten Zeitschrift gibt. Der Impact-Faktor ist ein Wert, der in hohem Maße vom Umfang des SCI bestimmt ist. Über die dort erfassten Zitationen wird ermittelt, wie oft eine Zeitschrift zitiert worden ist. Der Impact-Faktor ist in hohem Maße davon bestimmt, in wieweit die Quellen zugänglich sind, die zitiert werden. Der lineare Zusammenhang, den R. Rousseau und G.V. Hooydonk (1996) zwischen dem Impact-Faktor von Zeitschriften und der Zahl der darin erschienenen Aufsätze (Produktion) hergestellt haben, gilt nur in dem von ihnen untersuchten Bereich des Impact-Faktors 0,5 – 3. Bei höheren Werten kommt es zu einer Abflachung, bei Werten über 7 sogar zu einer Umkehr der Steigung. Es gibt einen Zusammenhang zwischen der Höhe des Impact-Faktors und seinem jährlichen Zuwachs im SCI. Je höher der IF, desto höher ist auch sein jährlicher Anstieg. Bei genauerer Analyse zeigte sich, dass der Zuwachs, zum Zeitpunkt der vorliegenden Untersuchung, gegen einen Grenzwert von 0,42 ging. Die Impact-Faktoren von Zeitschriften und deren Preise für die Abonnements hängen statistisch nur schwach voneinander ab. Ob Zeitschriften erworben werden müssen ist weitaus stärker von den Zitationen abhängig, die diese Zeitschriften auf sich versammeln. Der IF steigt mit der Auflagenhöhe von Zeitschriften, wenn diese bereits einen höheren IF aufweisen. Für wissenschaftliche Autoren ist der Druck, in Zeitschriften mit einem hohen IF zu publizieren, beobachtsam. Je höher dieser allgemeine Druck ist, desto geringer ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit für einen einzelnen Autor wiederholt in derartigen Zeitschriften publizieren zu können.
The current thesis investigates the Impact Factor (IF) in scientific journals and its consequences for scientometric considerations. The results are: The Impact Factor is a value for Journals listed in the Science Citation Index, which show the average degree of acquaintance in the scientific community. It is much less a sign of quality than often believed. The IF is highly determined by the degree of the extent of the SCI. The Impact Factor is also, to a considerable degree determined by the availability of the cited sources. Methodological the IF depends strongly on the topical adjustment of the SCI. A linear correlation, found by R. Rousseau and G.V. Hooydonk (1996) between the Impact Factor and the number of papers per journal, is only valid in the analysed range of 0.5 - 3 examined by these authors. At higher IF values it comes to a flattening, and for values greater 7 even to a reversal of the curve. There is an annual increase of the Impact Factor in the SCI, in which the annual rate is rising as higher the IF is. More exact analyses have shown that the increase had an upper of 0.42, at the investigated time. Impact factors of Journals and prices for their relations depend only on a weak statistic from each other. Whether Journal is acquired, depends by far more strongly on the citations, which meets these magazines on itself. The IF rises with the number of copies of magazines if these already exhibit a higher IF. A clear separation between a cause and effect cannot be recognized here. It would be both possible that Journals with high IF experience increased demand, so that the copy number thereby rises and that the IF rises, because the Journal enjoys a high interest. Scientific authors are under pressure to publish in journals with Ifs as high as possible. The higher this general pressure is the smaller is the probability for an author to publish in such journals repeatedly. Exceptions are the publishers or editors of these Journals.

You could say that the Swedish artist Felix Gmelin in his art uses media to get closer or further away from what we consider to be the reality and also truth. The purpose of this study is to discuss what this means for the intention of his art works. The starting point is my own aesthetic experience of his painting and the installations A Gentleman’s agreement (1996), Farbtest, Die Rothe Fahne II (2003) and Tools and Grammar 2.5 (2007). Each of these works of art consists of different kinds of prefabricated material such as articles, films and documents. These kinds of material are often considered to stand in the way of the aesthetic experience, maybe because they are supposed to be closer to reality and therefore to truth. The thesis of this study is that the truth in art is inscribed in the aesthetic framework of each art piece and also in the technical support it uses. If for example the support consists of an investigative journalist’s documentary research, in Rosalind Krauss’ description, the truth might be found in the authenticity of the documentary material. If the technical support has to do with sampling instead, as in the re-use of existing materials to create new works of art, the truth can probably not be found in the different pieces of material but in the work ofart in itself. It does not matter then if the different pieces of material it consists of is traditionally considered unaesthetic. The conclusion of this study is that Gmelin’s Gentleman’s agreement, Farbtest, Die Rothe Fahne II and Tools and Grammar 2.5 actually discuss what truth is and if there is an aesthetic truth.

Information technology (also known as IT) is inseparable existence for people in modern age. Many organizations are highly dependent on IT, however, information security problems are emerging endlessly with the rapid growth of IT usage. According to CERT, the number of reported information security events is increasing over time. Nowadays, most information security research focuses on solving specific security issues. It is difficult to have a good understanding for the overall development of information security research trend. Therefore, the goal of this study is to present the current research situation of information security by reviewing related literatures historically. By adopting content analysis as the main research method, we analyze top-quality computer science journal articles published in English, and use ISO27001 to properly classify these papers into certain research interests in order to get a clearer picture of research trend for information security. The results showed that information security research articles published at the top-quality journals were increasing by years. Research for management- orientedtype drew equal attention as the type of technical-oriented in the field of information security in recent years. Research subjects focusing on "Communication and operational management", "Systems development and maintenance" and "Business continuity management" were major trends for information security research. Working area for most of the authors was America, and many of them worked at universities or institutions. Comparing to other authors, Rao, Siponen and Zhang were the most active researchers publishing research articles in the field of information security. Studies titled "Language-based information- flow security", "RFID security and privacy: a research survey" and "Impact of customer trust and perception of security control on the acceptance of electronic commerce" were found to be the most commonly cited journal articles in this study.

AbstractCancer research is needed in the Arab world to provide evidence to healthcare workers and health policy makers. This chapter examines the literature on cancer research productivity in the Arab world, and the output of the 22 countries with respect to the number of publications, main types of cancers studied and top journals that researchers aim to publish their findings in. Although the Arab region is lagging in its cancer research output, it is reassuring that productivity has been on the rise in the last decade. There are great variations between countries in their contribution to cancer research, with Egypt and Saudi Arabia contributing the most and sub-Saharan Arab countries the least. Breast cancer is the most researched cancer in the Arab countries, overshadowing other leading cancers. The top journals that researchers published their work in are the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention, Pan African Medical Journal, Saudi Medical Journal, Tunisie Medicale, the Gulf Journal of Oncology and the Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute. The last two occupied the fifth rank equally. All these journals are Q3 journals except for the first, which is a Q2 journal. The challenges and barriers facing researchers in the Arab world should be examined and sources of cancer research funding expanded. Collaborations with researchers in international academic institutions should be encouraged to improve the quantity and quality of cancer research.

AbstractBuilding on a recent study (Shepherd et al. in Strategic Management Journal 38:626–644, 2017), this chapter highlights the importance of noticingopportunities as an initial step toward new venture creation. Unsurprisingly, there has been considerable interest in the processes of allocating attention to notice potential opportunities arising from changes in the external environment. We know a great deal about the role of top-down (i.e., based on knowledge and experience) processes of allocating attention to the environment in forming opportunity beliefs worthy of entrepreneurial action. However, in this chapter, we illustrate how bottom-up processes, whereby environmental changes capture entrepreneurs’ attention, shape opportunity identification. Building on the notion of guided attention, we detail an attention model of forming opportunity beliefs for entrepreneurial action that includes both top-down and bottom-up processes for allocating attention. This chapter explains how entrepreneurs can allocate their transient attention to identify potential opportunities from environmental changes. This chapter also describes how allocating sustained entrepreneurial attention influences belief formation about radicaland incremental opportunities requiring entrepreneurial action.

Clear, efficient, and professional communication helps advance your manuscript. Authors who respect the time of their co-authors and so request comments within a professional turnaround time, carefully consider the comments that they have received, and take multiple steps to minimize the time demands on busy co-authors are much more likely to develop productive collegial relationships that help to advance their work. Sending blank forms for co-authors to complete, not providing co-authors a copy of the submitted manuscript, not keeping co-authors informed of discussion with journal editors, and sending draft manuscripts with figures that are not compressed demonstrate a lack of courtesy for your collaborators’ time. Choosing a journal that is appropriate for your manuscript, following the journal’s details of style, including respecting the journal word limit, and using an appropriate reporting guideline, all facilitate moving from a draft manuscript to a published article.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the structural performance of multilayer gas foil bearings (GFBs). Three test GFBs and a dummy rotor with a diameter of 28 mm were manufactured for application to a series of structural tests. The test bearings were designed with an identical axial length of 22.5 mm, a radial clearance of 0.170 mm, and a mechanical preload of 0.050 mm at a 50% offset within the (machined) lobe bearing housings. All the bearings had multilayer (doublelayer) thin foils supported by an elastic bump strip layer, i.e., a configuration with a top foil, shim foil, and bump strip layer. Note that the shim foil is installed between the top foil and bump strip layer to enhance the dry-friction damping effect. The first bearing (Type A) had a single top foil, single shim foil, and single bump strip layer. All had an arc length of 360°. The second version (Type B) had a single top foil with an arc length of 360°, three shim foils with an arc length of 120°, and three bump strip layers with an arc length of 120°. The third version (Type C) had three top foils, three shim foils, and three bump strip layers. All had an arc length of 120°. The top foil is spot-welded to a key that is inserted into an axial key slot in the bearing housing. The shim foil and bump strip layer are inserted into an axial foil slot in the bearing housing. A series of static load-deflection tests were conducted on the test GFBs floating on the fixed, non-rotating test rotor. The measured results for the bearing deflection and structural stiffness were found to be in very good agreement with the model predictions for a GFB with a mechanical preload. In general, the test results were found to exhibit a similar radial sway space (or assembly radial clearance) and structural stiffness for all three test GFBs. Small local hysteresis loops appeared as the magnitudes of the load increased, thus determining the local structural stiffness and structural loss factor versus the displacement. The local stiffness was found to increase while the loss factor decreased as the magnitude of the displacement increased. The estimated structural loss factor can be as large as 0.9 within the radial sway space under low-load conditions.

A detailed elasto-gasdynamic model of a preloaded three-pad air foil journal bearing is presented. Bump and top foil deflections are herein calculated with a nonlinear beamshell theory according to Reissner. The 2D pressure distribution in each bearing pad is described by the Reynolds equation for compressible fluids. With this model, the influence of the assembly preload on the static bearing hysteresis as well as on the aerodynamic bearing performance is investigated. For the purpose of model validation, the predicted hysteresis curves are compared with measured curves. The numerically predicted and the measured hysteresis curves show a good agreement. The numerical predictions exhibit that the assembly preload increases the bearing stiffness (in particular for moderate shaft displacements) and the bearing damping.

An experimental test program has been conducted to determine the highly loaded performance of current generation gas foil bearings at alternate pressures and temperature. Typically foil bearing performance has been reported at temperatures relevant to turbomachinery applications but only at an ambient pressure of one atmosphere. This dearth of data at alternate pressures has motivated the current test program. Two facilities were used in the test program, the ambient pressure rig and the high pressure rig. The test program utilized a 35 mm diameter by 27 mm long foil journal bearing having an uncoated Inconel X-750 top foil running against a shaft with a PS304 coated journal. Load capacity tests were conducted at 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 21 krpm at temperatures from 25°C to 500°C and at pressures from 0.1 to 2.5 atmospheres. Results show an increase in load capacity with increased ambient pressure and a reduction in load capacity with increased ambient temperature. Below one-half atmosphere of ambient pressure a dramatic loss of load capacity is experienced. Additional lightly loaded foil bearing performance in nitrogen at 25°C and up to 48 atmospheres of ambient pressure has also been reported. In the lightly loaded region of operation the power loss increases for increasing pressure at a fixed load. Knowledge of foil bearing performance at operating conditions found within potential machine applications will reduce program development risk of future foil bearing supported turbomachines.

Gas foil bearings (GFBs) find widespread usage in oil-free turbo expanders, APUs and micro gas turbines for distributed power due to their low drag friction and ability to tolerate high level vibrations, including transient rubs and shaft misalignment, static and dynamic. The static load capacity and dynamic forced performance of GFBs depends largely on the material properties of the support elastic structure, i.e. a smooth foil on top of bump strips. Conventional models include only the bumps as an equivalent stiffness uniformly distributed around the bearing circumference. More complex models couple directly the elastic deformations of the top foil to the bump underlying structure as well as to the hydrodynamics of the gas film. This paper details two FE models for the top foil supported on bump strips, one considers a 2D shell anisotropic structure and the other a 1D beam-like structure. The Cholesky decomposition of the stiffness matrix representing the top foil and bump strips is performed off-line prior to computations coupling it to the gas film analysis governed by Reynolds equation. The procedure greatly enhances the computational efficiency of the numerical scheme. Predictions of journal attitude angle and minimum film thickness for increasing static loads and two journal speeds are obtained for a GFB tested decades ago. 2D FE model predictions overestimate the minimum film thickness at the bearing centerline, while underestimating it at the bearing edges. Predictions from the 1D FE model compare best to the limited tests data; reproducing closely the experimental circumferential wavy-like minimum film thickness profile. The 1D top foil model is recommended due to its low computational cost. Predicted stiffness and damping coefficients versus excitation frequency show that the two FE top foil structural models result in slightly lower direct stiffness and damping coefficients than those from the simple elastic foundation model.

The high-speed micro hydrostatic gas journal bearings used in the high-power density MIT micro-engines are of very low aspect ratio with an L/D of less than 0.1 and are running at surface speeds of order 500 m/s. These ultra-short high-speed bearings exhibit whirl instability limits and a dynamic behavior much different from conventional hydrostatic gas bearings. The design space for stable high-speed operation is confined to a narrow region and involves singular behavior (Spakovszky and Liu (2003)). This together with the limits on achievable fabrication tolerance that can be achieved in the silicon chip manufacturing technology severely affects bearing operability and limits the maximum achievable speeds of the micro turbomachinery. This paper introduces a novel variation of the axial-flow hydrostatic micro-gas journal bearing concept which yields anisotropy in bearing stiffness. By departing from axial symmetry and introducing biaxial symmetry in hydrostatic stiffness, the bearing’s top speed is increased and fabrication tolerance requirements are substantially relieved making more feasible extended stable high-speed bearing operation. The objectives of this work are: (1) to characterize the underlying physical mechanisms and the dynamic behavior of this novel bearing concept, and (2) to report on the design, implementation and test of this new micro-bearing technology. The technical approach involves the combination of numerical simulations, experiment, and simple, first principles based modeling of the gas bearing flow field and the rotordynamics. A simple description of the whirl instability threshold with stiffness anisotropy is derived explaining the instability mechanisms and linking the governing parameters to the whirl ratio and stability limit. An existing analytical hydrostatic gas bearing model is extended and modified to guide the bearing design with stiffness anisotropy. Numerical simulations of the full non-linear governing equations are conducted to validate the theory and the novel bearing concept. Experimental results obtained from a micro-bearing test device are presented and show good agreement between the theory and the measurements. The theoretical increase in achievable bearing top speed and the relief in fabrication tolerance requirements due to stiffness anisotropy are quantified and important design implications and guidelines for micro gas journal bearings are discussed.

The calculation of bump foil deflection is very important to predict the performance of foil bearings more accurately, because the foil bearings consist of top foil and its elastic foundation usually called bump foil. For the purpose of this, a finite element model considering 3-dimensional structure of the bump foil is developed to calculate the deflection of inter-connected bump. The results obtained from the suggested model are compared and analyzed with those from the previous proposed deflection models. In addition, load capacity of the foil bearings is analyzed by using this model.

Abstract The instability of rotor-hydrodynamic bearing systems has been a major concern in higher-speed rotating machine design. The threshold speed seems to be a barrier that cannot be driven through. However, if some kind of external damping is introduced, the situation may be different. At first, the study is conducted on the Jeffcott rotor with external damping for both vertical and horizontal configurations. For the vertical system, it has been shown by both analytical and numerical study that there is a threshold speed at which the rotor will get into an upper stable region from the previous unstable region. As for the horizontal system, an extended Lund Stability Method is presented, which, and with numerical analysis, has proven that the system may have two threshold speeds, which evolve a stability pattern as one region of instability sandwiched between two regions of stability. Then, the study is expanded to the extended Jeffcott rotor. With the introduction of equivalent journal mass, another threshold speed appears which forms a top and final boundary to the stable operation of the rotor. The results of a numerical study show that with the external damping increased, the first several unstable regions can be reduced or eradicated. The external damping has little effect on the last top threshold which is mainly dependent on the value of journal mass. It has also been shown that a certain value of external damping and small portion of journal mass would be very beneficial to improve the stability characteristics of the system over the entire speed range.

Foil bearings have been attracting considerable attention for their applications to micro turbomachinery, such as blowers and compressors, because of their excellent stability at high speeds and durability in high-temperature environments. This paper investigates experimentally and numerically the high-speed instability of a rotor supported by small aerodynamic foil journal bearings. Two types of foil journal bearings were prepared: a first-generation bump-type foil bearing and a dimple-type foil bearing; these consist of a top foil and a support foil with bumps or dimples, respectively. The dynamic characteristics of a support foil using the frequency response and the threshold speed of instability at high speeds were measured experimentally. Furthermore, the numerical threshold speed of instability was obtained using the nonlinear orbit method. It was confirmed experimentally and numerically that a 6 mm diameter rotor with a mass of 4.7 g supported by either of the two types of foil journal bearing treated in this paper could rotate stably at speeds of more than 760,000 rpm.

Resumo:

The purpose of this study is to examine research activity on food waste legislation published in law journals to identify top sources and experts cited by recent scholarship. Searches for "food loss" and "food waste" were conducted in three legal research databases for law journal articles published between January 2013 and January 2018. The core list of selected articles consists of 13 law journal articles. The citations from each of the core articles were collected to form a database, which was analyzed to determine what kinds of resources legal scholars rely on when conducting research in food waste legislation. Government Sources and Primary Law contribute approximately 48% of the citations in the database. News, Nonprofit, and Law Reviews and Journals contribute approximately 31% of database citations. This study provides some insight into the complexity of food law and the facets of agriculture, industry, and society that affect the success of food waste reduction legislation.

It is shown that the calculation of scientometric indicators of the scientist and also the scientific journal continues to be an actual problem nowadays. It is revealed that the leading scientometric databases have the capabilities of automated metadata collection from the scientific journal website by the use of specialized electronic document management systems, in particular Open Journal Systems. It is established that Open Journal Systems successfully exports metadata about an article from scientific journals to scientometric databases Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. However, there is no standard method of export from Open Journal Systems to such scientometric databases as the Russian Science Citation Index and Index Copernicus, which determined the need for research. The aim of the study is to develop the plug-in to the Open Journal Systems for the export of data from this system to scientometric database Russian Science Citation Index. As a result of the study, an infological model for exporting metadata from Open Journal Systems to the Russian Science Citation Index was proposed. The SirenExpo plug-in was developed to export data from Open Journal Systems to the Russian Science Citation Index by the use of the Articulus release preparation system.

Background: The tens of thousands of academic journal websites that are on the Internet today often do not have a clear organizational structure for their website. If most of them are convenient enough for readers (if the journal is open access), then many have problems informing authors about the conditions, the process of submitting and reviewing the manuscript. The Editorial Offices empirically populate the journal's website with content that can change dramatically (both in terms of website design and content) as the journal develops. Aim of Study: To develop a website model for an academic journal that takes into account the basic requirements for the preparation, publication, and archiving of high quality scientific manuscripts. Material and Methods: The academic journal website model is based on a structural-functional approach. The website content consists of text and integrated applications. This model takes into account the basic requirements for the preparation, publication, and archiving of high-quality open access scientific manuscripts, as well as the indexing of journal articles by leading indexing agencies.
